      This may be off topic, but maybe not much so:
      If you work food delivery apps (UberEats/DoorDash) no less than 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, are you ever able to make at least 6-5000$ a month, after all the tax deductions?
      2 reasons I ask this:

    • @JarradMorrow
      @JarradMorrow  26 днів тому +4

      Congrats on getting them to replace the engine! You got extremely lucky.
      They denied even giving me the oil consumption test to prove that the engine is sucking it up faster than normal.
      My sister has the same car as me and they said they'd give her the oil consumption test but they would charge her for it ($2,500). If they found it was consuming more than usual then they'd reimburse her, but if it didn't meet their levels of "overconsumption" then they wouldn't replace the engine. Not worth risking it when they could find a way to weasel their way out of replacing the engine.

After about the 4th time, they told me they had ordered my engine and gave me a car to drive while they were exchanging it! No cost to me at all for any of it! • @JarradMorrow
      @JarradMorrow  26 днів тому +4

      Generally, 3 years is too soon to be investing the money in my opinion. Imagine telling your fiancé you have to push out/can't afford the wedding because the market is down. I wouldn't want to be in the room when you break that news 🤣🤣.
      Saving for a home COULD be different. If you both were willing to be flexible and delay buying a home if the market is down then it could be worth considering. But you both better be 110% on the same page with this decision and willing to wait until the market recovered.
      I kind of look at these decisions on a case by case basis. A single person with a high risk tolerance can be a lot more flexible with these types of decisions. It's way more complex of a decisions when we're talking about a married couple, and even when adding children into the mix.

    Hi Jarrad, I like your idea of a future car fund, I have one as well. However, mine is in a high interest savings account. The car I may need to replace is about 17 years old with over 300,000 miles (but it's a Toyota!). Should I move that money to a brokerage account, or stick w/ my high interest savings account where it's a little safer?

    • @JarradMorrow
      @JarradMorrow  25 днів тому +1

      Nothing wrong with holding the money in a HYSA as your car fund. Depends on the shape your car is in. Knowing nothing about the details of that and just looking at the age of the car and the miles, I'd probably keep it in the HYSA instead of investing it.
      Now if you told me that you just paid for your next car with cash and don't plan on needing to buy another one for 7+ years then it could make more sense to start saving up for your next car in a brokerage account. This is what I did. There is a level of risk with this one that not everyone can handle. No shame in preferring to set the money aside in a HYSA instead of a brokerage account.

We usually just contribute monthly throughout the year until I hit the max, but I would like to be able to make that Jan 1 contribution to maximize time in the market. Would require us to save up another $14k throughout this year. Doable, but definitely needs to be purposeful in our case.

    • @JarradMorrow

      Yes. I don't count that money I'm saving up throughout the year as "cash" since it's earmarked to going straight into the Roth IRA once the new year hits. Even if you can't set that much aside throughout the year it could still be beneficial to save up any amount, lump sum invest that money at the beginning of the year then DCA for the remainder of the year to fully fund the account.

But if you have a fully funded emergency fund and you're sitting on a bunch of extra cash that isn't earmarked for something in particular then you need to ask yourself why. Note on cars, I cannot stress how much getting a Tesla M3 was the right decision for me. I got it in 2019, it's paid off, cost less than a Toyota Camry and has fsd (I bought it back when it was only 6k). I've only had 1 single maintenance issue in over 5 years of ownership and it was a few months ago for a faulty sensor. Other than that, it's just tires when they're due and literally nothing else. Imo, it's the best value car on the market, and it's not even close.

      Some of my buddies are on the same page as you. They 're obsessed with their Teslas. I'm still not to the point where it makes sense for me to own one. It would be more of an inconvenience based on my current lifestyle. I'm sure that'll change at some point, but I don't foresee it happening for a while.

    "Cash" in investment jargon usually does not mean cash. You roll traditional IRAs to 401ks--don't understand why. Money is money, why have different accounts for roof, car, etc.? I'm pretty confused of the logic in your investing methods. If it works for you . . .

      Where are you looking? I just did a quick google search and saw the median monthly range in US is $5,483 in Texas and $19,267 in Alaska. Still a lot but not nearly as much as your numbers. Is that for like a cream of the crop nursing home?

      @mkhatame86 I've never heard of them being that much per day but I guess it's possible if it's the best of the best.
