- 😇 Many thanks. Yeah. This is always...and everywhere for me. I literally Google the 'tourist attraction's not so I can go to them, but so I can avoid them 😂 I'm crazy, I know 🙃
Before we left for our trip we discussed the "tourist attractions" and what our plan would be... but ultimately, we decided that these places are tourist attractions for a reason - they're beautiful, and just to miss out of them because other people were there seemed like a shame. I think we've done a pretty good job of balancing between really busy areas and finding off the beaten path stuff as well. We completely understand your mindset though. I think the purple ice cream is Ube flavor, a type of sweet potato/yam 8:00 - wow, we didn't explore there 8:30 - the yellow building is where we stayed I'm editing/updating this comment as I watch... play by play :)
The NYC Couple - haha, I do the same when I comment. Yeah, I know, I need to do a better job of balancing myself. I pretty much stay to one side, which is getting away from the tourist areas and visiting the Deep Abyss :-) I should probably hit some of the tourist attractions every once in awhile :-)
You should Brock. It's what makes life bearable in PI. Besides the friendly people, there is serenity in the surrounding environment. We make our connection to God in its peacefulness and its beauty :)
You gotta go on the boat tours of the surrounding areas, I know this is what all the tourists do but to experience it is unforgettable and see the ship wrecks while snorkelling
I, like you love to travel off the beaten path so to speak. But it is a really good idea "wherever" you are in the world. To grab a couple of sane looking locals. And ask them if there is anywhere that would not be safe for you to be in any place that you travel. Whenever I am overseas, I always have a 21" telescoping police baton in my right front cargo shorts pocket, a 3" blade neck knife in a sheath hanging from my neck under my shirt, and a 4 oz pepper spray. Better safe than sorry! The baton and the spray come in handy for aggressive dogs at times. I hope for the best, but prepare for the worst in a sense! By the way, it is legal to carry all three of the above weapons in your checked luggage under the plane, even without declaring them. : )
- Yeah, I purchases pepper spray when I arrived. Never needed it, luckily - in 12 months of travel. That's one of the first things I ask a local - 'where should I NOT go'? A couple said 'Don't go there...a lot of poverty..etc..' That only made me want to go more. Several people said not go to go Mindanao - and island in PH. Too much terrorism on foreigners. Thoooose are the places I want to stay away from. Very glad I asked before just booking a ticket there because it looked cool 😳
I'm glad that you are thinking some about safety. Also, Mindanao was a good pass for sure! I do not obsess about safety at all. However, I am very aware of it. Most of it I feel is being lucky enough to not be at the wrong place at the wrong time. Safe travels my friend, keep going, as I am living vicariously through your eyes at the moment! LOL!
