Invited by Strauss himself Flagstad sang at the premiere of his last work “Vier letzte Lieder” under Furtwängler. I wish she had sung the entire role of Elektra, she’s absolutely fabulous! In the recognition scene!
@@SymphonyBrahms i do not think so...Flagstad's voice was thicker than Nilsson...Nilsson' voice was metallic yes, but a thinner voice... Flagstad had the centre and the low register of a very true Heldensopran...
@@eduardomedrano1972 NRK (Norwegian broad casting) has recordings of Flagstad from just before she got sick and died and she had gone full mezzo soprano, her deeper tones was fuller and richer, and the volume was still there. The voice also had a more autumnal timbre. Amazing.
@@SymphonyBrahms did you hear the two of them live?? I doubt it, unless you're over 90. So....shut up. I heard Nilsson many times. In fact, as rehearsal pianist, I heard her up close and personal. She's my number 2 in the Wagnerian dramatic soprano fach. She never had the the warmth of timbre that Flagstad had, and that's obvious from the recordings and from the testimony of those who heard both of them live....including my mother ( born 1907), who knew a thing or two about voices and heard all the great ones at the Met from the mid 1920s to the 1980s.
She only could be better if she had sung the whole opera. Birgit remains as the supreme interpret of this role. *But is really impressive the size of Kirsten's voice.
@@JoanSutherlandFan flagstad war keine Elektra, aber hier singt sie mit fabelhaftem, seidigem Ton. Mir bleibt ein Rätsel, wie sie mit solch einer großen Stimme, immer so feminin klingt. Grüße
Nilsson was better than Flagstad. Nilsson was the perfect Elektra. And the perfect Salome. And the perfect Isolde. And the perfect Brunnhilde. And Traubel was next after Nilsson. And Flagstad was next after Traubel.
Flagstad in her glorious beauty!!!! Never hard or loud...just creamy legato and warmth.
MAJESTIC ....and with the enormous , rich voice..comes such MUSICALITY and SUBTLE EXPRESSIVENESS..NO ONE like her..NO ONE.
I love her so much! She was an astonishing soprano! The voice of century!
Extraordinary and so perfectly IN TUNE.
A voice and singer from a special place. BRAVA !!!!!
!952 in Berlin and we find the legendary soprano in splendid vocal estate.

Pure magic the greatest voice of the 20th century
The great Flagstad.
Gorgeous! 🎹
OMG! The great Flagstadt as Elektra!
*Flagstad not Flagstadt as in German. She was offended by that. She was Norwegian. Thank you...
Effortlessly huge
Sublime
❤
what a powerful instrument...more than Nilsson even...
Yes
Nilsson had the most powerful dramatic soprano voice. More than Flagstad even.....

Grossartig. Und als großer Verehrer von Birgit Nilsson muss ich neidlos zugestehen, dass dies hier Flagstad Nilsson ebenbürtig ist.
Ne. Flagstad ist besser.
It's better...more beautiful vocally...
Too bad she did not rekord the entire opera
I read that she would have song the opera, but she thought the words were to volgur.
Wer ist Wolgur?
Even better than Birgit Nilsson.

@@JoanSutherlandFan Birgit is awful in comparison to Kirsten.

@@EmilyGloeggler7984 Birgit was amazing!
Flagstad is ok here. But this is Nilsson's role. She is the greatest Elektra.
I had Nilson's recording and she definitely had pitch problems. If you listen carefully you might hear it...
No!!the best. Elektra is. Astrid. Varnay!!!!!!!!!!
