Yo, this video was mad educational and funny ass hell at the same time. You guys are a true family. I've been watching your videos for years and all of your are still kicking it, well for the most part!
also, depending on the thickness of the sheet, you might be able to see the green screen through it. like how they said to wear the same colours as the sheet
PLEASE KEEP DOING HORROR TUTORIALS FOR HALLOWEEN... i’ve been a fan for about 3 years now and I didn’t know how much I wanted horror tutorials until NOW.
I WAS TAKING A SIP OF MY SODA WHEN YOU THREW IN THAT RANDOM MRS. DOUBTFIRE AND I SPIT IT ON MY KEYBOARD IVE NEVER FELT MORE RAGE AND LOVE AT THE SAME TIME
Great video guys! Love this stuff. One thing that really helps me with cloth rotoscoping is having the camera in a higher shutter speed, so that I don’t need to deal with motion blur. It’s easy to add motion blur back after you have masked the cloth.
AWESOME VIDEO!! I’m a huge fan of The Conjuring Universe and I saw The Nun in theaters and really enjoyed it! Those black faceless nuns absolutely terrified me! I subscribed!
Can you _please_ do another video like this but for *The Conjuring 2?* The effect when the nun’s shadow walks against the wall and goes to the painting is something I’d LOVE to see how it’s done! And the Crooked Man! ❤️
Have you guys considered something along the lines of The Witch or Heredity...Yeah, that would be a major undertaking, but that sort of horror...mood horror...affects me on a visceral and emotional level, leaving me with my own thoughts to haunt me. The crow film you did was so well done...I love how the scares weren’t cheap ones, and how you built tension and suspense and fear through build up. Love the gifts you guys provide us. :)
Every one for the love of God please don’t watch this episode and eat or drink at the same time. The Miss Dought fire part almost made me ruin a perfect good key board. My coworkers came to check on me I fell out so hard to that little clip. Just forced my wife to watch it at almost 10:00 at night and she even laughed. Keep up the great work guys!!!
Ryan, I really liked your explanation of the cross turning. Definitely by far one of the creepiest scenes from the movie. I created my own way of doing it, what I did was I made it ALL Digital. I got a picture of a cross, then I made the background transparent. After that I brought the picture into Final Cut Pro X, and rotated it the way I wanted to while creating key frames. After that I saved it as a pre-keyed transparent video. When I bring it into a project, I can do multiple layers with the same video as well as making it faster, slower, and possibly even to reverse the order. What do you think?
What is great about horror movies is although many can be really cheesy, I find a much more forgiving world of creativity. If you can look pass the low budget films of horror it still offers ideas.
I know this may be a rookie question, but why not use a green screen effect for the invisibility thing and having a green morph suit to blend in the GS background?
Hey just want to stop by and say that I think you guys are amazing! I’ve alway wanted to get into filming. Now i finally have the chance to. I picked up adobe elements 2020 and I’m ready to learn. If you guys have any tips or pointers I’m all ears.
Man I don’t get how they do a cg cloth. Just sounds so insane. Where do you even learn to that level stuff? There’s no CGI school is there? Lol if so I’m dropping my computer science course to do that aha
You can learn cloth (and other physics simulations like fire, smoke, and volumes like water) in all-purpose 3D softwares like Maya, Cinema4D, Blender and specialized softwares like RealFlow and Houdini.
Very instructive vidéo thank you. I want to male the same thing. Do you have a complete tuto of the ghost sheet. I have to make the same thing for my short movie 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👍
Can you please make one about how they pull the people around on the ground because I’m making a short horror film and I really want to do that but can’t master it the way they do so can u do that pls!!?
Finishes animating mask path, *realizes he didn't click the stopwatch*
This has to be one of the most devastating things in post lol
We've all been there man
Yes
HAS HAPPENED.
I feel u bro
Yo, this video was mad educational and funny ass hell at the same time. You guys are a true family. I've been watching your videos for years and all of your are still kicking it, well for the most part!
instead of masking wouldn't it be easier to put them in a green screen suit and key out the green?
This would be an easier approach, however this is intended for low budget filmmakers that depends heavily on post-production.
also, depending on the thickness of the sheet, you might be able to see the green screen through it. like how they said to wear the same colours as the sheet
It's a surprise seeing you here Crazy Nate
I was a fan of film riot since before I made it on youtube, learned several edit techniques from them. Josh and Ryan are great.
Crazy Nate Yeah.....But not everyone can afford one or have a time to buy one..

The first effect/tip will help immensely for one of my upcoming short films!! Thanks, Ryan!
It'll be on your channel ?
Best video and channel ever for vfx, specifically the magician part was my favorite 😂😂
3:55 Dayym that stop watch looks so evil when not blue
Can you _please_ do another video like this but for *The Conjuring 2?* The effect when the nun’s shadow walks against the wall and goes to the painting is something I’d LOVE to see how it’s done! And the Crooked Man! ❤️
@7:23 LOL! I'm at my work and I jsut about lost it!

finally. film riot back to its best. old style. Pls do more like this with the little skits in between.
thanksssss for this knowledge !!

What do you think?
I'm speechless. I love this Family
This is the earliest I've been on a video. Ever.
when they didnt even have time to put up chairs and coffee
SF Films same
OH MAN!!! Josh without Pants. I could have lived without seeing that! lol :D
This tut is more useful than my life. Thank you very much.😁❤️❤️❤️
So fun! Hope to incorporate these effects in the future!
lol that chair disappearing bit killed m...what's with the legs on display? ahahahaha
Best tutorial format ever
This is the sort of stuff I watch Film Riot for. Like the stuff you used to do every week about 4 years ago.
My computer has enough power to -mask shit out in after effects- fishing rod off screen it is
lmaoooo
@3:53 thats an Egyptian Panda Cheese commercial haha so funny I've seen it
"yoiu dont say NO to Panda"
I love that mrs. doubtfire face effect lol
Ryan, I know that feeling when you forget to turn MASK PATH ON!! AHHH!
LOVE YOUR SHIRT.
Wait. Todays sponser is Domain.com? I've not seen that sponser before.
then you are not a Film Riot fan at all
@KRILLEFAR DK welp
What is great about horror movies is although many can be really cheesy, I find a much more forgiving world of creativity. If you can look pass the low budget films of horror it still offers ideas.
I love all of your videos and effects awesome work!!!!!111!!1!11
LMAO....Josh the crazy one....Behold LOL fake magic trick. You guys make learning fun
For the cross twisting, you could've just put the fishing line around the hook that was already in the wall above it. No masking needed.
I know this may be a rookie question, but why not use a green screen effect for the invisibility thing and having a green morph suit to blend in the GS background?
Cool episode. It's also more fun and more scary than The Conjuring.
Don't Forget the stopwatch part. Can't stop laughing
Omg Josh kills me. Lmao! As always thanks for the laughs and another awesome tutorial!!
Mrs Doubtfire is the only ghost I wouldn't clock in the nose for jumpscaring me.
Nice Insidious reference there at the end 😏
i just love you guys...
That nun at the end was so funny😂
OMG YOUR SHIRT!!!! Love it bro!
Again this was the funniest and awesome video which made me interested to watch this episode full. 😍😘😍
Loved your acting on Tool Time.....
2:50 How am I seeing the black bars on the garage door through Emily and the sheet!??
Yeah my boy film riot, keepen to the dope upload schedule.
Yes. You guys won my like with pantless Josh's take... I can't help it
What editing software can i do to do this? Im thinking about doing a short film!
Are you guys doing Bloodtober this year? Please do! It's my favorite series!
The Mrs. Doubtfire nun got me
OMG i can´t stop lauthing¡¡¡¡¡ Josh is killing me¡¡¡¡
wow very nice keep it up. we really love your videos
I watched the behind the scenes and the thing that keeps me out the most is the gliding. Never really walks.
Hey just want to stop by and say that I think you guys are amazing! I’ve alway wanted to get into filming. Now i finally have the chance to. I picked up adobe elements 2020 and I’m ready to learn. If you guys have any tips or pointers I’m all ears.
What app did you use for these edits and visual effects
For visual effects they used after effects.
Man I don’t get how they do a cg cloth. Just sounds so insane. Where do you even learn to that level stuff? There’s no CGI school is there? Lol if so I’m dropping my computer science course to do that aha
Kyran Brockett there is! A lot of Film schools teach VFX! (And they do this stuff in Programms like Houdini (its for simulations))
Its not that hard. Enough tutorials of it for Blender!
Really? Blender just has it all, it's so cool. And the fact that its free blows my mind.
You can learn cloth (and other physics simulations like fire, smoke, and volumes like water) in all-purpose 3D softwares like Maya, Cinema4D, Blender and specialized softwares like RealFlow and Houdini.
Kyran Brockett all you need for the cloth scene is a green screen suit. It’s not hard at all.
what software are you using for the vfx?
Very instructive vidéo thank you.
I want to male the same thing. Do you have a complete tuto of the ghost sheet. I have to make the same thing for my short movie 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👍
If you have a fully green suit you can do the ghost effect a little easier right?
Filmriot need to win awards !
What did you use to edit? Thank you
Must haven cold when you filmed that...nothing hanging in the shot you needed to mask out there! Good video eve though there was no pants
Hi sir, can u do one tutorial on how to do snowfall and set up winter mood using special effects.. and later enhance in post. Thanks
I like that shirt!
*Video copilot is awesome AF*
that's Film Riot's brother
the more you know
Gosh do I absolutely love Film Riot 😂
I love your works😍,
3:50 once upon a time i rotoscope for 1 hour and i forget to click on keyframe
A scary story
tanks ryan
Josh at the end " hellooo" funny nearly made me wee
loved it!
excellent!!
3:40 Why not use the in-build plugin "mocha pro" when masking the ghost?
What editor is needed to be able to do these effects
I know this was Film Riot because I laughed out loud multiple times.
Also, because it was uploaded to the Film Riot channel, had Ryan Connolly hosting, and literally said "Film Riot" in the intro.
also we are not falling for your trap you cave man!
The thumbnail is giving me Michael Vsauce's Bearded Nun flashbacks.
Love it
I did the sheet effect a few weeks ago. It’s called Magic Trick family game night if anyone wants to watch.
Thank you Film Riot!!!
The nun also had those eyes that turned on or something when the light was turned of. This shot was shown in the trailer
why didn't you use a green morph suit on the 2nd effect and used like keylight? it would've been a lot easier
Josh!!! LOL!!!
Hey bro please make a tutorial on horro soudn design
Highlight for me was Magician Josh :D
Great tricks, but one question I have to ask is how would I create the nuns decayed face from one of the trailers I saw
Can you please make one about how they pull the people around on the ground because I’m making a short horror film and I really want to do that but can’t master it the way they do so can u do that pls!!?
Thanks for the click the stop watch step. Team Player. 👍
Im not a vfx pro but i do know that you could use a this costume that covers your full body and buy it in green to get that annabelle scene
