Agreed. kinda sad there isn't a title for "things Mr. Enter has a different opinion from everyone (either personally hating things other love or vice versa)" and he has to just call it "attrocity" which implies it is as bad as the things that are ACTUAL attrocities like the worst episodes of family guy or lion king 2019
More mindset. It's not a body swap its slipping into another life. Mind that this doesn't hold up on repeat undermines. The idea being like the audience the characters were fooled. Just do not think about it. Problem is extended scenes evoking thought means you can and will and it hurts

@@a1yssum True. I've never seen the movie(just haven't had the time) but I've heard good things about it. After hearing the review, I can still see myself liking it dispite the flaws
It’s only in the past century that imitation or comparison of any sort is more likely to be viewed as an insult instead of a compliment (unless it’s a meme).
To me it sounds more like: “This is the role you’re filling. This is the standard we’re holding you in. Nothing more. Nothing less. And when someone else of your caliber comes along, they’ll replace _you_ in that role. And that’s your career now, whether you want to be defined this way or not.” A person’s reputation =\= a bestowable mantle. Imagine your success being treated like the latest substitution for another person’s. I think it’s the “next” part of the statement that makes it sound like a cyclical inheritance, rather than a mere comparison.
@@purpleemerald5299 That’s kind of my point. Something like that phrase has been used for centuries. In fact, it’s even biblical (“are you Elijah?”). It’s possible to interpret it as being replaceable, but it wasn’t always understood that way.
Yet, it seems that likes still outweigh. Maybe many of the people who watch Mr Enter are actually able to give a different opinion a chance before just clicking some stupid thumb.
Dark Shadows did it in the late 60’s when Count Petofi mindswapped Jameson Collins to the future with David Collins (both played by David Hennesy), with David recognising Barnabas (who had used the i Ching to astral project into his past self) causing some trouble for the vampire. It's not really body swapping as much as it's exchanging physical locations, in the 90's reboot series when a séance sends Vicki to 1795 her location in the present is filled by governess Phyllis Wick, and the present day characters keeping her alive is a minor subplot.
Wasn't Quantum Leap more like possession than body swapping though? I think body swapping doesn't work with time travel because anything the person in the past does would instantly cancel out whatever the other person is doing at that moment so it's a pointless concept for a story. Unless it's multiverse theory but that's even more pointless because neither of them will effect the other so the time travel may as well not be involved.
@@MrJoeyWheeler No, it's because most of us don't like all the investment we put into something be made invalid by pretentious plot twists. The only salvation the story has is the whole alternate universe thing. Without that, the story would be unsalvageable.
Ok so, the danganronpa twist isn't that the characters are fictional, it's that the characters living in v3 aren't living in the same world as the ones from the previous 3 games and anime, they live in a world were the previous stories are games and anime like in ours, a game within a game, the other characters are as fictional to them as they are to us, imagine if you found out your teacher, your parents, everyone you went to school with never existed because they are characters in a game and that your whole personality is manufactured and are a living as a character, I'm not the biggest fan of the ending but it's not as simple as you made it out to be

Hate it when that happens. There are events where a death toll should be staggeringly high unless there’s high teir Flash levels of Super beings that augment this death spike.
@@leonardofarias8843 At the end of the Movie someone says something like "It's quite amazing how most people survived due to a fake forest fire announcement". It comes out of nowhere and it makes no sense. Plus in the original timeline, 2/3 of the people in the town died, so a couple of hundred at least survived.
@@YujiUedaFan No, the original timeline explicitly said the death toll was 500 out of 1,500. 1/3 dead, not 1/3 survived. In the end, the mayor pushed through the evacuation, which was what got it to work where the faked broadcast didn't.
We see at the end that Mitsuha approaches her dad, as herself this time, and before the scene cuts we see that she’s got a determined air about her and he’s a bit shocked. The implication is that she picked up where Taki left off and was able to convince him to commit to the evacuation.
They remember it as though it’s a dream, and in dreams certain details don’t jump out or make an impression. Some things do, like Taki recreating Itomori on paper from memory, but others just don’t stick or register. The rural and urban split helps to facilitate this, as Mitsuha isn’t familiar with up to date technology first hand (she gets something akin to culture shock when having a foodgasm) and its easy to assume Taki thinks her phone is an older model since Itomori doesn’t even have businesses open after dark. Things like dates not adding up get dismissed as a dream since it’s not until late in the movie both realise it’s real (Mitsuha seeing 2013 Taki in Tokyo and Taki seeing Mitsuha on a list of casualties).
@@jbcatz5 add to it that their phones are influenced by their memories and things disappear as they forget, that when dreaming dates and hours look like gibberish, and that taki is trying to become an architect so having a particularly good visual memory of landscape isn't a stretch
The fact that one is in a city and the other is in a more country area would make them overlook gaps in technology. Like 'oh, they probably have more advanced things in the city' or 'oh yeah, an old-fashioned town would have old tech.' Plus the dream-like memory and the fact that people generally don't go around saying what year it is. Except for this year, but that's a bit different.
I remember watching this movie on a flight to England and I was so caught up in the emotion of the story I really didn't think of the inconsistencies with the time travel plot. Your point really made me realize that "yeah, the time travel stuff doesn't make any sense" but for me it doesn't take away from the melodrama and the tension between the two characters finally meeting. I was happy I watched the video and listened to your points before deciding whether I liked the video or not but judging by the like/dislike ratio no a lot of people did.
I admit I disliked it a few minutes it, watched the whole thing and then commented my dislike for his take but said it was a good video nontheless. I was also captivated by the emotional ride of the story and for me that is enough at times. Entertainment media doesn't always have to be accurate or correct in storytelling it just has to make you care and make you like it.

His most favorite Shonen Jump anime/manga series is Zatch Bell, and he’s praised that series in the past Admirable Animations videos, but he doesn’t really talk about Zatch Bell that often in his other Admirable Animations and Animated Atrocities videos.
I feel like Mr. Enter not reviewing Anime is a good thing because judging by the like to dislike ratio, Anime fandoms are even more toxic than his fucking hatedom. And I find that actually astonishing.
Yeah I absolutely loved it but, I feel like it was the gorgeous animation that hit me more than the actual story. Like the story was good, but the animation definitely made it ten times better
Man, after going through your older stuff, the words "but people love it, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, and I can understand why" goes to show just how much you've grown since I started watching you back around atrocity #50. The time travel is explained, it's has to do with the shinto religion, and with Mitsuha's grandmother's explanation of how fate, time, and bonds all have connections, Mitsuha is a priestess, her family has always had strong spiritual awareness with the body-swapping running in their family as well. Just like the shinto kami would later erase the evidence and memories of Taki and Mitsuha switching, the kami were the ones who allowed Mitsuha and Taki to switch places in the first place.
Sorry, but how does that explain the time travel? It explains the body swap, but not the time travel. Enter mentions the scene where Taki does the landscapes of the rural town, but he can't remember anything else?
@@thattaht It is both, the body swapping is something that everyone in her family goes through, but hers was a special case that required extra sacrifice to the Kami. The ribbon that Mitsuha gives Taki is one that she made with her grandmother in a ritual about the bonds between people, time, kami, and fate. The ritual for that ribbon, plus the ritual for the sake, and the erasure of their memories and evidence of switching bodies was the price the kami demanded to give them a chance to save each other. Taki does remember other things, he remembers Mitsuha's sister, mother, father and friends, he remembered the shrine and the rituals, he eventually does remember her name when he is looking at the names of people who died in the comet collision, and he remembered the general area and that it was a rural town.
@@skirdus367 There are a lot of reasons why they didn't address the time travel earlier. You remember that when Taki tried to show his friends the notes Mitsuha left on his phone, they all disappeared in front of him? Things like that could have happened but they decided not to include it in the film because it would take away the punch at the climax. Or it could have been something that they didn't want to tell each other but then wound up forgetting when they woke up because you don't have such precise memory in your dreams. And I bring it up in another comment, there are tons of people, mr enter being one of them himself, even on rewatching the film and know that they can look for evidence of the dates, still manage to miss it because everything else is taking up so much attention.

Man, Redline bombing is so absurdly tragic since there's basically nothing like it in anime film nowadays, as if it set a precedent for projects like it to never be attempted again. It probably informed the 2010s in some way, and not a good way with how poorly it did in the box office and how long it took to gain any real recognition. @@AlphaOmega1237 Short summary to mistakes he makes in case you are a bit curious, i can elaborate more on specific points :misunderstanding the twist of danganronpa v3, misunderstanding the time traveling and the bootstrap paradox, complaining that a character doesn't have traits specific to an architect while complaining that he has very good visual memory of buildings and skyline, forgeting that the phones changed acording to a characters memory so the dates don't matter and they don't have to swap on the same date only 3 years apart, forgetting that dates and numbers are the most hard things to remember while dreaming, misunderstanding the reason they swap bodies isn't the fact that they met in the train, nor is it the comet, complaining that a teenage boy touches his boobs after being turned into a girl despite not being a pervert in his normal life, and a lot of other complaints about how the characters act that don't make sense There is also a bit more foreshadowing like the fact that everytime someone says something about the shooting star he goes what are you talking about, even when he watches the news, the fact that he has her hair bandana on his arm the whole time and that he vaguely remembers meeting her in a train before despite the fact she hasn't been to the city . he also ignores that he only remembers the village after seeing a photo of it in an exposition while on a date, before that he forgot it completely. people are also mentioning Shintoism is important in the film but i don't know much about it
@@mrminecraftcubeable Overall I do think that most of his evidence is a bit weak, but I also think that the movie's reliance on the dream-like aspect and the time travel/manipulation were poorly handled. Wow. He does something every critic does. If only so many didn't act like they were on a crusade just because they disagree with a popular view of a work. Since when did people having different opinions become so revolutionary and surprising?
I think this is a good place to let go of our secrets and just spill the beans about our own unpopular opinions. I am proudly willing to hear them, no matter how much I disagree, if you want at least.
At the end of one his reviews, I just want to hear him say "If you don't like my opinion, well you can kiss my ass." Or something along those lines. It's unfortunate that he had to include a little mini rant about respecting the opinion of others and everything has it's lovers and haters because internet people have become so full of themselves that they think they can try to control someone's viewpoint on something.
22:52 I'm pretty sure the only reason Taki started playing with Mitsuha's boobs in that scene was because he was trying to hide the fact he was crying due to how happy he was Mitsuha was still alive and when he heard her sister, was trying to play it off like nothing was wrong... but his emotions got the better of him so it looked even more alarming to her sister than if she'd just seen "her sister" crying. That's how I always interpreted that scene, at least. Thought it was pretty obvious
@@balabanasireti no. Really. There is no reason Taki should be touching Mitsuha’s breasts. Someone really just wanted to animate a girl playing with her boobs.
I just want to give you a big hats off for the message at the end; that no piece of media should be held as "above criticism", and that it's perfectly fine to notice problems in even the most well-loved works of all time, or even works you do otherwise love. I have gotten absolutely sick of seeing people put down anyone who says anything about whatever show or movie because of how widely-loved it is, and I can't express how satisfying it was to see someone FINALLY take a stand against that. This was a really great review in general, too; you articulated all of your points really well, and it was really fun to see you tackle an anime, since it's so radically different from the type of stuff you normally review. I've been really enjoying the "Unpopular Opinions" marathon so far, and I eagerly await the finale!
I'll admit, I was surprised when you said this was going to be your next review, but you've got a good point. I've only seen it once, didn't go back to it, and didn't really think about it since, so I really didn't think about the plot holes, but you've got a good point with the whole time travel thing. It makes no sense in hindsight.
@Mauricio Aguilera I’m gonna have it be right before a final war arc, and the thing is the characters are revealed to be on the villains side of the “main” story (though not the main villain) and have to find a way to overcome the “main” characters plot armor
It’s stated in the film they experience it as though it’s a dream, and don’t find proof it’s real until late in the story. When they do try seek each other out and Mitsuha doesn’t get recognised by Taki (he could plausibly have not noticed her too closely in the crowd) that it’s too late to communicate a time difference, and he only finds tangible proof of her as listed on a casualty report. They both switch into unfamiliar and very different places that have only base reference points for, rural Itomori (which doesn’t even have businesses open after dark and the only dedicated cafe is a vending machine) and urban Tokyo. It’s not like they’re comparing notes on current events on a regional scale, but rather specific instances of their own lives.
@@jbcatz5 He's actually heard that argument but he personally doesnt buy it, its mainly because though it does make sense in some way its not really the most logical answer you could think of well at least thats what I have interpreted in the video
@@bbumbs747 Tell me the last dream you had. How much detail did you remember and how much do you recall noticing within the dream? Mitsuha’s grandmother confirms she also interpreted her own bodyswap as a dream, so whatever phenomena facilitates swaps clearly puts a filter on the experience of being swapped. Given there seems to be some divine power behind it, it’s possible this is to prevent the people being swapped from overthinking it and instead build a bond. Weathering with You does have themes of divine intentions and defying fate, so the idea of two people fighting against time to be together isn’t inconceivable. As the song in the movie says “No more playing hide and seek with you and time, and always coming just short”.
@@jbcatz5 Actually yeah thats a good point, but I was honestly looking at it in Enter's perspective and while you might have saw it that way I don't think Mr.Enter thought of it in the same way, the points he did give are mostly his interpretation of the film, personally though it can be disappointing that he might not see it the same way as you do, that doesn't mean his interpretation is not valid since any form of art is up to interpretation ,from what I noticed he didnt really think of the dream aspect but more on what happened in their real world and to him it just didn't make sense for him but if you looked at it as that dream like state then yeah the film would make a lot more sense in a way. Personally Ive only seen the film once and I do love that film and I think I still love that film and as someone who likes making animation the animation in this film just blew my mind especially since I sorta know what goes behind it and how difficult it might be and I still have an interest in watching the film again if I have the time to do so.
@@bbumbs747 It’s a recurring theme in portal fantasy stories (one person transported to another place unfamiliar to them) for the transported character to treat it as a dream or believe it follows the rules of the world they’re used to until something big enough shakes them out of it and makes them realise this is what constitutes reality for them. Add in that here there’s an unknown force in play making the swap happen, easier to see why the first thing they do isn’t looking up something familiar like Itomori or their own identity. Perhaps part of the swap includes conditioning not to worry or think too hard about their own persona while swapped. A recurring Doctor Who example is when people first enter the TARDIS. “Oh, it’s just a box” or “it’s done with mirrors I’ll bet”, then the truth hits them when they emerge somewhere that isn’t where they got on board.
I love you Mr.Enter here's why your opening is problematic though as someone who just thinks the movie is fine. I'm in school for game design and we have to learn a lot about critique. it's one thing to say you didn't like something versus calling it an atrocity. Your opinion means its not your cup of tea but by giving it a blanket term of 'atrocious' while reviewing you're no longer presenting it as your opinion. It's fine not to like the movie but knowing your angle on most of these videos it's more than just you stating an opinion but rather reviewing the work as a whole with your opinion sprinkled in. That's why the Korra review rubbed me the wrong way too. I subbed for years because I loved hearing you go through things and I loved the way you analyzed things but now it's starting to feel like your opinions are equating to if something is good or bad rather than providing an actual in-depth review of universally panned shows. Again, not a massive fan of this movie either but it's just a bit disappointing to see a well beloved movie be reviewed next to the likes of shark tale or rapsody street kids
Enter has addressed this in the past. He said that at this point animated atrocities is just branding. He doesn't think everything he reviews goes under the atrocity umbrella
Honestly Nickelodeon's handling of Korra is what killed the show for me. By the time it got to the third season it was already too late for me. I didn't have the same feelings i had towards Avatar with Korra. I just found Season 3 and 4 to be good at best.
I dont understand the comparison to A Silent Voice, A Silent Voice is a fucking masterpiece that is on a whole other level than Your Name. Also I'd LOVE if you do a review on A Silent Voice since it's my favorite...thing of all time
As someone who has seen this movie 13 times to date (my 2nd favorite of all time behind Weathering With You), I have a few counterpoints. Q) Why does Taki forget more and more about Mitsuha after they stop switching A) The bow in Mitsuha's hair. The "Red String of Fate" is a popular symbol in japan which represents an invisible link between two people destined for each other, only this movie it's physically represented in the form of Mitsuha's bow. After Mitsuha gives it to Taki, he wears it every day as a good luck charm so he always has that connection. When Mitsuha ties it in her hair as they start switching, that is essentially the connection on her end. The problem is because Taki has no idea that Mitsuha puts the bow in her hair, much less how to do it himself, he doesn't wear it. So, when Mitsuha does her own hair, it allows the two to switch that night, vice versa. And when Mitsuha dies in her timeline, that severs the connection almost entirely because she isn't alive to wear the bow at all. Q) Why do Taki and Mitsuha switch bodies at all? A) Apart from the aforementioned metaphor, the braids that Mitsuha's family makes are tied to Musubi, who Mitsuha's grandmother explicitly describes as the local guardian deity and a god of unions; unions being further explained as tying strings together, the flow of time, connecting with people, etc. It wasnt just Mitsuha who had these body swaps either, it's been a trend of the women of the family for as long as its documented, just that the memories eventually faded into obscurity over time, much like it does for Taki and Mitsuha by the end. Knowing this, one can infer that this guardian deity was putting together a safety net for the Miyamizu family or Itamori as a whole. The crater atop the mountain and Itamori's lake proves that this is a pattern for the comet, and Musubi was getting ready to save the people there. Taki was connected with her in the future because no one at her current time would have been able to warn her about a disaster that had not yet happened and no one could predict. Q) Why did Mitsuha set Taki up on a date with Miss Okudera? A) Mitsuha didn't plan on Taki getting to go on that date; she wanted to get out and experience Tokyo for herself and that was just an excuse to do so. When it doesn't turn out that way, Taki gets to spend time with his crush, but ultimately doesn't feel comfortable with it even if he tries to convince himself that he is. At this point, Taki's effectively lived a life with Mitsuha and all her bullshit for a decent while now, and just has a stronger connection to her than this woman he's only admired from afar. Q) The Sake. Just the Sake A) Going back to Musubi, Mitsuha's grandma also states that "Whether it's water, rice, or sake, when something becomes a part of a person, it's a union; it joins their soul." This isn't just a metaphor for Taki and Mitsuha swapping bodies and having a connection (which is why they have that thin connection all those years later), but it also describes how the Kuchikame Sake is made. Mitsuha puts the rice in her mouth, so it joins her, chews it up and spits it out, expelling the liquid and a bit of herself with it because she had taken the rice into herself already. So when Taki drinks the Sake, which has another red braid tied around it, he gets his last chance and last connection with Mitsuha so he can properly warn her. I have others but this has gone on long enough but I will agree with a few things. Not noticing the date is a big hole, and the characters are noticeably weak (Something that WWY definitely fixed), but that second bit never really mattered to me, even as someone who prioritizes characters in these things. I think keeping the characters and emotion simple is part of what makes this movie work for me. We already have the grand, intricate plotline and a looming threat of death literally over head set a tone that says "Even when the world comes crashing down on you and despair begins to set in, it's these simple feelings and pleasures that we can hold onto to give us the inspiration to not give up." That's why Taki writes "I love you" on Mitsuha's hand; because it's not important what his name is, just that she has someone out there that loves her and wants her to live on. It may be cheesy but that cheesy purity is exactly what this otherwise grim and depressing story needed. I do absolutely love this movie, and I would love to discuss it in further detail if you want, and I'll accept your opinion either way.
@@andrewengelman3544 Shinkai has showed me the value of having this sort of "negative space writing", and dedicating time not to progressing the plot, but taking time to make the story more heartfelt and human. 5 Centimeters Per Second is basically an anthology of stories about nothing and yet its still so poetic
@@daejynn7298 Have you seen Garden of Words or Children Who Chase Lost Voices? I think you might love those ones as well. The emotional purity and humanity in them is another point that you can see in the other films he made. There are two things I disagree with you on. The whole dates being different thing isn't necessarily a plot hole. There are a lot of ways that making note of the differences in date would have just not changed anything except take away the impact later in the movie; and also Shinkai kind of dangles it in front of us in different points in the movie. Sometimes it shows the dates on the phone or on calendars in the background, and many people miss them even on rewatches, so it's kind of like if you miss it even when you should know what to look for, it's reasonable they wouldn't have realized in the moment when there was so much else going on. Anime is one thing, there are piles of tasteless anime, but this feels like trashing a cake because they forgot the cherry on top. It wasn’t a bad anime movie, not even by a long shot so to call it an atrocity makes me think he’s forgotten what that word even means or he’s just throwing it around fir shock value.
Does it have areas where it lacked? Absolutely. But compared to amines like Beyblades, Digimon and YuGiOh which, past their initial seasons, smelled worse than expensive French cheeses! YoGiOh was one of my favourite series until they completely recast the series. Sure, YuGiOh GX wasn’t tooooo bad but 5D’s onwards? They massacred my boy!!! 😭
@@benjaminlandgren9708 I honestly think Pokémon is worse. At least YGO and Digimon change and evolve (or devolve, depending on preference), meanwhile Pokémon is one long filler arc that's basically just an ad for the games.
I personally loved the twist. And this is coming from someone who's played little of 1 and 11. It was a good love letter to those that played the games and celebrate it just as much as Final Fantasy.
No, Taki was not too scared to talk to girls in his own life, the only girl that he had any interest in was his manager, and being scared was not the reason he doesn't hit on her. That same manager even comments on how he is quick to start fights when he doesn't have the strength to back it up, and you see him being more open and brash and less polite with his friends than when Mitsuha is in his body. And Mitsuha was the one RECIEVING love letters, he wasn't sending any out.
Your Name. is one of those "big screen effect" movies that can't have their magic captured on the small screen. Films like The Lion King (1994) and Frozen. You really need a top-tier home theatre or an actual cinema to fully enjoy them. Even some live action movies like the new Star Wars films are like this, especially Rogue One.

I completely agree. A Silent Voice was a more compelling movie than Your Name, as well as having better fleshed out characters. It sucks that’s they always get compared to each other
@@booklover4330 they both have their own appeal. but after hearing some of the things cut, i think that, while "A Silent voice" woroks as a film, it really should have been an anime. sure it is better to cut some of the things that later happen in the manga that would make you despise some characters, but as a movie it feels like "conclusive enough to tell a single story, but it might feel anticlimatic especially if you find and read the manga". depending on tastes it might be better as a conclusive story in a movie than seeing it extended in the manga though it feels like "Yamada and the seven witches" and "usagi drop". that sure, they have more content, but you feel fine with what was adapted because it feels "satisfactorily conclusive enough" (especially in Usagi Drop's case bcasue DEAR GOD what they did in the manga makes you wish the anime it never gets a second season that adapts the manga)
24:33 just happened right after I read the entire comment section as of right now and it makes me wonder if these people watched the review at all or took the time to understand where you are coming from without trying to think of ways to counter-argue and defend the writing. I like Your Name well enough, though that's probably because of the animation since I'm a sucker for gorgeous animation. But I find it to be very confusing and I can't feel for whatever Taki and Mitsuha have going on. It's not to say that the writing is bad. I think it's decent enough. It's just that the flaws take away from what could've been a masterpiece. You're not forcing your opinions onto people and I agree with a lot of your points. You can still enjoy something that's heavily flawed. I certainly do.
Danganronpa games have never had the best endings imo. V3's ending seemed really confused to me. This was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. It’s only in the past century that imitation or comparison of any sort is more likely to be viewed as an insult instead of a compliment (unless it’s a meme).
Problem is, that's not the impact that that phrase has.

"Body swap and Time Travel don't go together" **Screeches in Quantum Leap**
Easily. Gotta refine it
@@firepuppies4086 Good point. Quantum Leap did it very much better as it was explained and had certain rules.
**screeches**
Wasn't Quantum Leap more like possession than body swapping though? I think body swapping doesn't work with time travel because anything the person in the past does would instantly cancel out whatever the other person is doing at that moment so it's a pointless concept for a story.
Unless it's multiverse theory but that's even more pointless because neither of them will effect the other so the time travel may as well not be involved.
I think more people are pissed at the jab at V3s ending then the whole Your Name review.

I know, I was so confused how they didn't figure out they were at different times.
@@jbcatz5 thank you.

There's still the huge plot hole in the form of not realizing the time travel has taken place when all the dates would be different
Is the twist of characters realizing they’re in a story inherently bad? That’s the twist I wanted to have in my story
I highly recommend watching H Bomber Guys review of Pathalogic if you curious about a "charaters realizing in a story" being played up really well.
@Mauricio Aguilera I’m gonna have it be right before a final war arc, and the thing is the characters are revealed to be on the villains side of the “main” story (though not the main villain) and have to find a way to overcome the “main” characters plot armor
thank you, finally someone said that the twist brings up a lot of logical errors, including not noticing the change in dates

@@frogglen6350 Oh, I meant the series(?) as a whole, but fair point.
As someone who has seen this movie 13 times to date (my 2nd favorite of all time behind Weathering With You), I have a few counterpoints.
Q) Why does Taki forget more and more about Mitsuha after they stop switching
A) The bow in Mitsuha's hair.
Just the Sake
A) Going back to Musubi, Mitsuha's grandma also states that "Whether it's water, rice, or sake, when something becomes a part of a person, it's a union; it joins their soul." This isn't just a metaphor for Taki and Mitsuha swapping bodies and having a connection (which is why they have that thin connection all those years later), but it also describes how the Kuchikame Sake is made.
WEEB!!!
Thank you, I'm so glad other people understand.

@@Alias_Anybody your movie sucks gave your name a 5/10. A lot of UA-cam critics don’t really enjoy the film. I haven’t watched it because i never heard of it but with enter talking about how beloved it is, I had to look up what Adam(your movie sucks) gave it.
not a single reply understanding the joke lmao
@@bananasinfrench Thanks for being the only person to get the joke. 😄
This is probably one of my favorite animes of all time, and this video had me a bit worried. I can totally see why you don't like it. You presented it very well, and made many good points.
While there's issues, and I completely understand that this movie is rushed and incomplete. I can't help but love it. I guess in the words of Bob Ross, I find it to be a "Happy Accident", and it always makes me smile when I see it. If you didn't like it, I can totally see why.
Good job with the review Mr. Enter. Good luck with your next video
Wow, somebody who ACTUALLY has a brain
@@lemonadesnake Nah, I'm as dumb as a brick XD
@@gytech1 lmao
I'm love it when reviewers start with what they like about what they're criticizing
Mr. Enter: There are works of media that are seen as "untouchable" and the whole internet will descend on you if you find even a single flaw with it.
It's not just works of media. Sometimes it's characters...(glances in Bakugo Katsuki's direction)
that goes to dabi now
Could be studios too. Look at Studio Trigger. If anyone even complains about KLK, don’t be surprised that the fanbase will complain on your opinion.
I love goblin slayer
Pokemon is a touchy subject too, especially with Sword and Shield.
I really don't get what it is so great about Bakugo. To me he's just the asshole who told Deku to kill himself in hopes of getting reincarnated to a life where he actually has a quirk.
So fun fact: I actually just started playing twilight princess for the first time lately. Talk about coincidence
whats the connection?
@@Mariokemon near the end he briefly described part of twilight princess’s plot. Specifically zant reviving ganondorf

My favorite video game of all time. Was trippy seeing this comment when I hadn't finished the whole video😂
Iruma-kun is criminally underrated and I'm glad you enjoyed it. People really slept on it so I'm glad to see it get some attention.
Time travel is a lot like romance plots. If you can avoid using it, do. Believe me, it’s nearly, if not entirely impossible to get completely right.
Madoka Magica did it right.
9:52-10:20 spoilers for Danganronpa V3
ill give it because enter doesn’t have the decency to do so
The warning is in the description lmao
@@dustyz6080 okay but he doesn’t give a time stamp or anything which is the easiest goddamn thing to do.
• Dusty- San • That's really gonna help for everyone who watches the video before reading the description
@@HeroontheWind I'm just saying he tried. No need to say "he didn't have the decency to do it." If he didn't have decency he wouldn't put a warning ANYWHERE whatsoever.
When this video was first uploaded it didn't actually have a warning anywhere. You can tell it was added later because in the actual video there's literally text where he writes "I'd give another spoiler warning if I actually gave a shit about this one."
Oh boy, here we go. For Your Name, I don't think it's as amazing as others have loved, though I can see why people like Your Name, but I personally enjoyed A Silent Voice much more.
I completely agree. A Silent Voice was a more compelling movie than Your Name, as well as having better fleshed out characters. It sucks that’s they always get compared to each other
@@GiomimaPLAYS They're not even anything like one another. Which makes the comparison incredibly strange.
@@booklover4330 they both have their own appeal. but after hearing some of the things cut, i think that, while "A Silent voice" woroks as a film, it really should have been an anime. sure it is better to cut some of the things that later happen in the manga that would make you despise some characters, but as a movie it feels like "conclusive enough to tell a single story, but it might feel anticlimatic especially if you find and read the manga". depending on tastes it might be better as a conclusive story in a movie than seeing it extended in the manga though
it feels like "Yamada and the seven witches" and "usagi drop". that sure, they have more content, but you feel fine with what was adapted because it feels "satisfactorily conclusive enough" (especially in Usagi Drop's case bcasue DEAR GOD what they did in the manga makes you wish the anime it never gets a second season that adapts the manga)
Makoto Shinkai is still my favorite for the level of detail in his animations alone
It usually turns out like this for anything that's popular in big communities.
Enter, I dare you to review 'Pony Life'.
@Kris Walsh Huh, I didn't know that. I only said that as a joke.
Legitimate emotion and drama undercut by random sex defines about 95% of the anime I’ve seen.
Enter: v3s ending was dumb
Every danganronpa fan in a 50 mile radius: NO Y O U ' R E DUMB *sobs*
Danganronpa games have never had the best endings imo. V3's ending seemed really confused to me. Like they were trying to do the whole 'is it a lie' thing that they did throughout the game but we know that Tsumugi is telling the truth because V3 is a fictional game. Apart from the ending and the 3rd trial I still really liked V3.
In short, Your Name is a modern Akira in animation, but a different genre. The overall story isn't the best, but the visuals are eye-meltingly good.
They look more like wrinkles and giant blobs to me lol
The video hasnt even lasted for a minute and the like to dislike ratio is 7:1
edit: 30 minutes in: 2:1 dislike ratio
Ehhhh
I think that these reviews are much more mellowed out than I first thought. Sure, he gets angry, but he has some valid points and he understands why people like the film and even says he likes the animation. You can point out major flaws in something and still like it. And I can tell he is criticizing it because he wants to see more from the director. Very nice review even if it’s an opinion that most people don’t have. *Looks at the dislikes*
Here's my Defence of the twist... Kinda
In the movie their memory has bern flimsy. Especially after the.. lets call it "split" They Remember visual things. Taki can redraw things Perfectly but dont Remember Mitsuha's name, all the dates get wiped from his phone. Same happens to Mitsuha.
So Basically its been Actually show to us that they would Remember visual imput (faces, Pictures, landscapes what have you) not names of People or places or dates.
Also for most of the movie they treated their experience as dreams, Do you pay attention to dates on your phone in your dream?
I suppose that makes sense. More explanation seems like it would've helped this movie.
I had comet potatoes for dinner tonight, as it happens...
I watched this film back when it was released to cinemas in the UK, so I was intrigued what you'd have to say about it. This was a good critique - well done and thank you!
I'm pretty sure the V3 twist was for the characters in game not the player lol
yeah :/
It still feels directed at the audience tho. I mean they literally call out the in universe audience
Then you'll understand if I start skipping through it once I realize how long the game wants to spend on it.
@@librasuperstar3779 I think it was their attempt to pull a Flowey "Some people just sit there and watch it."
@@librasuperstar3779 I think what it's doing is assuming you're a part of the actual audience in game, and finding out that none of what you know is real. They know that you know the characters are fake, but it's more that the realities you know for the characters are fake
Wolf Children is also one of my favorite anime movies.
This was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. I’ve heard most of these criticisms before, but just being on the mark and thorough with basically all the issues with this movie and even adding details like Makoto Shinkai’s own perception of the film made this a pretty worthwhile perspective.
“The worst twists are ones that come out of nowhere!”
Most of the Goosebumps franchise: ...
A Silent Voice is by far a better movie
A Silent Voice actually sucked though

Wow you just ripped into one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time but all I could really think was “damn he’s got a point but that bothers me less than it bothers him”
The only thing I big disagree on is the soundtrack I thought RADWIMPS killed it but eh to each his own
a lot of it had to do with the Shinto religion which is very complicated and I don't fully understand it either not too mention they both thought it was a dream for most of it
Yes that’s what I guessed too the scene with the Grandmother at the Gorst where she talks about that all Souls being connected (displayed by the Red Threads) and that some People have a Special Connection of some sort. It’s also a Fantasy Movie with a lot of influence of Shinto it’s not a Science Fiction Story where they try too explain everything with Pseudoscience. and I think most of it is kept vague on purpose because the events in the Movie are above Human Comprehensive
there are small clues that they don't have all their memories when they switch, the system prevents from meeting but they manage to beat it
@@IcidLink pretty much the shinto relegion says everything is connected through musubi(knotting) and what it really was is that their deity was trying to prevent the meteor from killing everyone and that every female in mitsuhas family has had the same thing happen to them all to prevent the disaster its kind of hard to understand even a lot of japanese people don't get shinto because it is becoming obscure in the newer generations
23:16 This.
The more you think about the story the worse it gets. First viewing blew me away, but like you I started to think about the story and a lot of didnt work. Watched it second time, it hit me harder. The themes and overall emotional impact hit me for personal reasons and that was more than enough to make it a masterpiece for me.
