    i would advise against using impact wrench to put the post back on, hand tighten it first

    I'm really liking my floating dip tube. A couple of tips. Depending on which one you get, the tube is fairly long and can actually touch the bottom ( propping up the end ) so that you leave a few inches from the bottom. You can use a stainless washer or two to make it drop down a bit further. Cutting the tube to fit is also something you might try.

    This is a very watchable and informative video about a subject I would never have investigated...floating dip tube. I always go to secondary to clarify and do not have any issues with clarity or taste from the bottom. I also always go to 30 psi and shake the heck out of the keg to carbonate in a day. I will be watching for new ideas. What a great setup you have, and I am so stoked to see women brewing. I cannot get my wife interested. I will be showing this to her as insipiration and think it would inspire other women to get into it. Keep it up!
    Finally... I agree with the impact note. Always hand tighten first. No real need for impact tools either. Just a regular wrench is fine.

    All good Sarah, have you thought about leaving the out line as is and fitting a dip tube to a new post drilled and fitted to the lid ? That way you can use the lid with the dip tube fitted to it on any keg you have. Also easier to fit the dip tube, and doesn’t effect a keg.

    Great overview. I need to get some of these. I dont mind the yeast and sediment as much as much as I hate when hops get caught in the springs and slow the flow of beer and / or cause excessive foaming. Maybe I just need to always use hop bags but the floating dip tubes seem like it would prevent that issue.

    Another great video Sara! I also use floating dip tubes on all of my kegs. The main advantage to me is when I dose the keg with gelatin. Within a day or 2 you will have almost crystal clear beer at the top. You should do a video on closed transfer of gelatin solution to keg and show the results day by day.

    • @FloraBrewing
      @FloraBrewing  4 роки тому +2

      This is pretty much what I do. I ferment in kegs (with floater and tube) , crash, transfer to a purged keg (also with a floater tube) with gelatin already added and the next day the first pour is pretty much clear,

      @@GURGTUBE Wow. That’s a great idea. Are u pressure fermenting in kegs??? Max gallons per Corney keg?? I tried my Ist closed transfer today using Corneys and got a lot of foam at the end. Hoping to drink it fast so it doesn’t oxidase. Any ideas?

      @@tman9338 i pressure ferment in kegs. Usually a 10 or 15 gallon. For 5 I do 4 gallon max and add fermcap, especially if it's an ale. You want your receiving keg to have the spunding valve attached to the gas side as you transfer. And transfer slow. It's sort of counter pressure process similar to counter pressure bottling that's done. Transfer after it's cold too to avoid foam

    I find gelatin best for clearing beer if you are not avoiding animal products.. I use bentonite clay for cider and wine with great effect. It is really easy and clears like crystal, but it will kill the head in your beer so they say (I have never actually tried). I like your heartwarming videos.. cheers!

    I use a Floating Syphon (makers name not mine) in a plastic pressure cask and the beer runs clear within a day or two. I believe that purists would frown at this because the beer has not aged and generally speaking the heavier (SG) a beer is the longer it should mature for. If I start to drink a cask after say two-three days it is OK but it is definitely better after a couple of weeks, by which time it is mostly gone.
    I also think a slight starch haze is unavoidable without filtering. My advise is that if you do not like a slight starch haze, don't look. That's why Tankards were made.

    • @FloraBrewing
      @FloraBrewing  4 роки тому

      Yeah as long as the color is vibrant I'm not concerned about a slight haze, just hate when yeast is all I taste! I love the idea of casking but am not quite there yet...soon enough!

      @jamesgoacher1606 4 роки тому

      @@FloraBrewing Bear in mind mine are Plastic Casks not wood or metal. Your Corney Thingies are supposed to be better. I believe that my Physics tells me that particulate will sink under pressure. Just needs a little time. By the time fermentation is over there should not be any in suspension. You can tell that when the beer in the fermenter darkens.

    I just installed mine on my hoppy red, it's only been a couple days and I can already tell the beer coming off is clearer that what I'd normally be getting, the beer still needs some more time in the keg but at least I have a good idea how well it's going to drop out.

    I've used floating dip tubes for a while now. They are great and I plan to keep using them, but they aren't a miracle. It still takes about 7-10 days to see really clear beer, which to me is fine because freshly kegged beer has to cold condition anyway. Clear beer lasts til near the bottom of the keg, when you finally reach the sediment (that was never pulled out at the beginning, as would happen with a standard bottom feeding dip tube). So in some respects, you're trading sediment at the very beginning for sediment at the very end. It's gonna get you one way or another!

      @@FloraBrewing one thing I've never understood was why beer on tap taste better then a bottle beer? Abita beer purple Haze is a prime example of that. Both beers come from the same tank yet taste different.

  • @jcinsaniac
    @jcinsaniac 4 роки тому

    Do you think the can is clearer because you pulled it off the keg after it settled out and the floating pickup actually benefited the can inadvertently? The haze is most likely chill haze which is heavily influenced by proteins suspended in the beer solution. But, that's my take...still looks an amazing beer and was a fine review. CHEERS!!

    • @FloraBrewing
      @FloraBrewing  4 роки тому

      Yeah I think because it was the very top and cold crashed for a few days so everything settled. The clearness of that can is why I LOVE bottling/ canning off a keg
