Searching a church and school from the 1800's- what was left? (Metal Detecting)

- Churches played a pivotal role in the expansion of the U.S.. Rural schools were often started by churches, used the same buildings as churches and were the center piece of towns and villages. Often times families would join together to create the space, hire the teacher and continue to advance the school throughout the years.

@@dirtlifedetecting I think so too. A good long term search.
Congrats on the ring and the IHP!! Good hunt Ben! God Bless!
@@TexasPlugRiches thank you!
Thanks for the fun dig!

@@grandmakellymcdonald thanks

I was very happy to see that come out from under a nail!
Great job explaining the history. Thanks for the video.

Nice video, nice finds.
@@allanohlsen7729 thank you!
Nice hunt!
@@dirtclodmetaldetecting thanks!
Cool site and good job on the video. I wonder if that flattened copper thing is the cap of an old lipstick tube? I can't wait to find another Indian head penny, very rare for me. Actually, the last one was in Missouri! Keep going back out there and trying some new settings...should be interesting as you tend to grid places pretty well to see if you turn up new stuff again.
Thanks!! Next on my bucket list is a 1800s silver. Plenty of potential for that here!
@OffTrailTreasures you'll find it!
So glad the weather has turned. It's been nasty in the MO.
Me too! That ground was impenetrable!
Love the ring!!! Some churches purchased rings for the children to wear as a symbol of their purity. Like a promise ring..That’s probably what that is. 🩷🩷🩷
@@JanG-0430 I could totally see that. Good call!
@@OffTrailTreasures trying to send you a pic, but I don’t know how
Great find with Indian Head cent! Got to be silver coins somewhere around there.
@@robertshort6147 thanks and I agree. Out of all the old churches or schools that I have metal detected I think this is the one that has been modified the least and has the most open ground.
@@OffTrailTreasures definitely worth going back to. Do you have a LG30 coil to use with your Legend?
Last copper piece looked like an old rimfire cartidge.
@@marvinschabacker4207 I wondered that. I was just totally thrown off by how green it was. Have you ever found one that oxidized so much?
@OffTrailTreasures Yes, it just depends on the amount of copper used in production.
Good hunt. Indians are always nice. And a ring is a ring is a ring.
@@codylovelace2237 yeah but this was the Ring of destiny! *Plays ominous music in the background*
What is a shield penny?
The current pennies they make. Has a big shield on the back!
What Robert said. They just look so cheap and "phoned in." Sad that we don't pay attention to that kind of detail anymore.
@@robertsorgmann9101 oh ok, zinc pennies.
