It was unlike any other game I've ever played, and even though it was different from the past Paper Mario games, it was still good in its own right. Wouldn't be the first time a game in a beloved series took a turn in genre.

Hector Gonzalez This game is actually my personal third favorite, only because TTYD is my all-time fave game, and the original is what I grew up with :)
Tbh, I'm kind of surprised that you didn't mention that the Big Blooper screenshot with the beta Pixl also had Tippi in it, even though it's impossible to have Tippi with you when you fight the Blooper.
Tippi is always out, except during that chapter and when you've completed the game. Mario is always accompanied by BOTH Tippi and the other pixel of your choice.
@@richardcastanon635 Tippi is captured by Francis at the beginning of 3-1, and you don't see her again until 3-4. Thus, she is not present in the blooper fight, at least not in the final game.
I never played Sicker Star, how can it be worse than Super Paper Mario? Paper Mario N64 and Thousand Year Door were awesome, but Super Paper Mario was a huge disappointment for me, personally.
Sticker Star has no epic engaging story, no Peach segments, no partners, no original characters except for one who is bland, Bowser who is the funniest character in these games has no dialogue whatsoever, there is no experience point system therefore fights are meaningless, the story is just Peach captured go saved with no twists or uniqueness to make Peach stand out as more than just a damsel in distress, Luigi isn't in the game, there are no badges again, you can't use your jump or hammer attacks unless you have a jump or hammer sticker which means if you run out you can't fight in a battle and if it is a boss then you'll lose, boss fights can only be beaten by using specific stickers which the game doesn't tell you about until after you've lost to them and the game autosaves thus making you lose all the stickers you've collected, Kammy Koopa is once again gone (although Bowser Jr. and Kamek are there), the level structure is more like the main series and less like a real world, and the game is simply another product of Miyamoto wanting the Mario series to be storyless and having no personality or uniqueness whatsoever. It is the Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic 06 of the Mario franchise and I hate it so much.
Well, that certainly doesn't sound very fun. This only strengthens my belief that there will never be a Mario game that I would ever like more than Thousand Year door. That game was just too good with all the new badges and Pit of 100 Trials; definately one of my top ten.
th3pwnicorn The sad thing is that originally Intelligent systems were making the game like Thousand Year door. It had badges, a more intricate story, partners, lots of original characters that were entertaining and funny, Peach wouldn't just be captured and would do stuff to help Mario while she was captured, Luigi would have been in it, and the game would have had many more RPG elements in it. However Miyamoto told them that since Super Paper Mario didn't get praised for its story in club Nintendo (everyone online was saying how the story was amazing but Miyamoto is too sheltered to look there) that an RPG doesn't need a story (An RPG's main appeal is the story and the characters! The gameplay is actually a bit less important in an RPG) and that they should scrap that and make it the way it is now. And since Intelligent systems would look bad saying no to the man who made Nintendo such a success they caved in and did what he said. Intelligent systems still has the ability to create great Paper Mario games, they were just pressured into making it bad for Sticker Star.
pkstarstorm1up I honestly would like to know WHERE did you get this information, because I don't remember hearing anything about the game being changed in development o.o though I think I remember hearing talks about the partners..
While this game is different RPG than it predecessors, I still love it and think it has a good place in the Paper Mario series. Sticker Star on the band, I'd rather not go into my options on that that one.
Heads up! Colorless sprite or monochrome sprites are often used as layering to their colored counterparts to make special kinds of shading. This is even used in N64 games as well.
This is one of my favorite games of all time. I just... I played it when I was young and still think it's fantastic, the story, while no epic, is one of the deepest in a game where the main series plot is "bowser kidnapped peach save her!" It was fun and was a platformer that had some pretty hard endgame stuff. I have no idea why it's hated.
Man, finally I found someone that likes this game as much as I do... I can't understand why this game is so underrated... Just because people were expecting an RPG battle system? Because that's the absolute only thing one could complain of :/

Thousand year door was the best paper mario game to date in my opinion. Although admittedly that's probably my bias talking. There's a certain charm to the jrpg style that has kept me playing it even to this day. I don't know if it's just me but I just don't feel the same way about spm and sticker star.
It's definitely not just you. It's actually common consensus that Thousand Year Door, and, to a lesser extent, the original Paper Mario are much better than the later entries in the series. I don't really even have any hope for Color Splash at this point.
This is not just your opinion, a lot of people agree that The Thousand Year Door was the best Paper Mario game they ever made and even the critics says the same, also many others consider the original game as the best, which i agree too because i like both games almost equally but i prefer PMTTYD a little more
Also, in the screenshot where Peach was fighting the big blooper boss, Tippi was with her. This, in the final version of the game, is impossible due to Tippi being kidnapped at the beginning of the world. This means that Francis, the boss of the world, would have to have obtained the Pure Heart.
You sir, are a legend. You talk about all my favorite games, whom I've forgotten about, and made me want to replay them again. Keep it up, you're awesome.
Yeah they definitely changed it up a lot with Super Paper Mario compared to a lot of their other RPG style games! It was a bitter sweet feeling for me really. I liked being able to do all those different sorts of attacks and choose strategically how to defeat the enemy. But, I also liked the fact that everything in Super Paper Mario was in real time instead of turn-based, so you could more easily dodge enemy attacks and attack multiple times before they get a single hit on you. xD
Theory: The scrapped Pixel that has a ladder look to it is said to control the dimension flipping, however you showed us the screenshot of peach having it. Could all the characters at one point have been able to dimension flip?
Dear UA-cam, I personally liked Sticker Star. If you don't, that's perfectly ok. But, I don't think it gets all of the credit it deserves. Sure, It was a VERY big turn from the other games in it's seires, but it was also the first portable Paper Mario game. Also, I personally liked the new battle style they put in. It was kinda annoying, but also really new and interesting. All of you might not like this game, and again, that's ok. But, I think it should be given a little more of a chance, because it was just an experiment. The game was funny, bright, colorful, and full of things to do. This is why i think Sticker Star is a good game. Thank you for your time, and have a good day.
I love Sticker Star, I loved it because my friend and I would play it, and he would always crack me up. It makes me sadder everytime I remember those days and realise he's left me. We weren't gay, we were just really good friends and we still are to this day but I can't see him in person anymore
It's so dark, and interesting and a great story. I didn't like it first starting off, but once the story got into it, I was hooked. I couldn't stop until it was done. The final boss, the bosses, the story, Mr.L, the Underwhere, all of it made the game AWESOME!!!!
I think that the "kami_kuribo" is more in reference to kami (神) when not used in the context of kamikaze (神風). Anything compared to a God in the form of a Goomba is probably a manifestation of the Anti-guy in the original Paper Mario that was an optional battle, the one that was usually too hard to beat unless you came back chapters later. Since the Anti-guy was just a black-colored sprite, I thought I would draw some parallels there.
It's true, either meaning could have been intended...but without the kanji we don't know which meaning was intended for sure. But regardless, your interpretation is correct too.
it would be fine as a typical mario game, but paper mario is prominently an RPG series... so when they try and remove leveling up, and that sort of stuff, it leaves a bad impression on fans of the series im sure if they called the game just "mario sticker star" and maybe put some more time into the characters and story, it would be fine. but as a paper mario game, it is lacking
Just started watching your video's and it is different than anything ive ever seen. These videos are fucking awesome but its a shame that you only made 12 so far, Keep up the good work!
@@theobserver4214 unpopular opinion time.... sticker Star was a good game 2022 EDIT: after replaying it, it is not as good as I remember it being. Because it was really bad
@@valenfraux It's really disappointing, too. I wanted to like it so badly. The beta looked so promising with the chain chomp partner and all. And then the final product we got was just... Bleh.
+Brendan Siwik (WitherDead123) it's absolutely broken and empty of any good, gripping storyline like the past games, and you only have one partner, the enemies are bland, and the hub world is so small and empty, all the toads are the same, etc etc But still, opinions aren't fact, but overall, it was a huge disappointment, and even if it is pretty OK, it's still infamous for being the worst out of the series, it could be good, but the others are better, and Nintendo hasn't learnt from it at all
Marsha Ricks/ #THE GAMING PRO I'm not saying to dislike the game. It's just that, objectively, it's a sub-par game. Especially when in comparison to the dynamic, intuitive and thrilling experiences of the original two Paper Mario games. And compared to the M&L games it's the same deal as well, but those games are meant to have a different mechanics set to Paper Mario games. XP
Calebite It was a Role Playing Game. It was just a not-very-well-made one. It has all the elements of an RPG necessary to classify as one. Turn based battle, a story which you must take part in, a Health system... That's about it, but that is what's needed to call a game an RPG.
Super Paper Mario was the most amazing game when I first played it. The idea of switching dimensions was absolutely original and new. I loved it and still do.
One of the reasons I like this game is Dimentio. I think that he's underrated. I just like his character and how he turned out to be the final boss. I make comic books and one of my favorites has Dimentio as the main enemy.
The entirety of the comments section: "Nyah nyah whine whine butthurt Why Isn't This Game More Like TTYD I Hate This Game butthurt whine." Me: "This is my second favorite game of all time (my favorite being Superstar Saga.) The soundtrack is godly, the story is incredible, the gameplay was addicting, and the puzzles were awesome although challenging, and the characters were millions of times more colorful than pretty much any other game. Paper Mario was awesome, Sticker Star was really awesome, TTYD was phenomenal, but this game beats it all. BURN ME TTYD FANTARDS!"
Cyrus Crompton The characters have a stylized vector look to them. While polarizing, I personally found them a charming addition that meshed well with the heavily stylized backdrops and strange textures used. You can see this most clearly in Castle Bleck, which has pure white lines and mandalas on a pure black background, with an occasional coreblack flame serving as a torch. The game has been designed to be much more like minimalist modern art and because of that, most areas have a very unique appeal to them that I have yet to encounter in any other game. To me, the game was very much a continuation of the Thousand Year Door which famously tossed out a lot of standard Mario elements like the typical grass - desert - ice - water - lava level structure. Artistically, take a look at the Boggly Woods from the Thousand Year Door. A pristine white forest with darkened oak trees and a floor that seemed to shimmer as you walked through it - truly one of the most beautiful areas in the game and never seen before or ever again. I feel Super Paper Mario very much emulated this feeling by adding even more bizarre areas, some truly wonderful things like the Underwhere which completely defies the standard fire and brimstone look, yet unmistakenably feels like the underworld. Storywise, where the Thousand Year Door was a darker departure of Paper Mario, Super Paper Mario reaches Earthbound levels of zany melancholy. Truly one of the darkest, yet most sympathetic villains we've seen in the entire series. As for the music, I wouldn't say it feels off - it is exactly as bizarre as most areas are - yet I have to say it definitely isn't my favorite in the series. That medal would go to the underdog of the series, one of the few elements done absolutely right in that otherwise rather underwhelming game - Sticker Star. Not only was the music enjoyable, it was key element in a boss battle which proved to be one of the most fun experiences I've had in the entire series. While Super Paper Mario had some great tracks - the final boss music is widely praised - I have to say it was absolutely awful in some regards. The Overthere Stair is a disgustingly boring chapter with an immensely irritating song. It definitely affects my entire view of the game in a decidedly negative way. Still, Super Paper Mario represents everything I love in the Mario RPGs. The downright rebellion against everything that makes some Mario games feel so horribly clichéd. It's why it broke my heart when I heard Miyamoto turned Sticker Star into a typical Mario game halfway through production, throwing out everything I was excited for in the trailer. Here's hoping we'll get another Mario game one of these days that dares to dream as much as this game does. One that remembers. One that remembers that Paper Mario isn't about a flat mario game with turn based battles - it's a true innovation. A game with personality. A game to remember.
It went surprisingly fast. When you're passionate about a subject and thought it through for a while (and I had plenty of time while playing SPM), words just kind of flow out of you, y'know? I started writing this comment around 21:35 for reference, btw. It's true the game is abnormal, but where Sticker Star's "things" feel entirely out of place and annoyingly RaNdOm for a game that's otherwise very formulaic, SPM's weirdness is consistent and meshes well into the whole of the world. Plus, there's a lot of bad things to be said about Super Paper Mario but at least it didn't have Sticker Star's mind-bogglingly bad final boss. One of the worst examples of game design I have ever seen. If you didn't somehow come completely prepared with the right thing stickers (mind you there's dozens of them in-game) your choice is either to die or to turn the game off-and-on. Worse yet, you couldn't even explore the game afterwards, bringing back the horribly outdated "you won so we're resetting your game" ending. And that will be the image that sticks with you. An unsatisfying ending that took way too long to reach and then gets erased.
Tom de Kler sticker star was bad and could've been SO much better. when I tried to play it again, I got stuck on the boo mansion. I don't know if its glitched or if I'm missing any but I looked up a walkthrough and followed it. Super Paper Mario still felt... idk like Mario galaxy sorta? I don't like Mario galaxy either btw
Yoshi Agentyoshi (Earthbound is awesome.) Oh, yeah and also Paper Mario and Paper Mario 2 has *MUCH* different turn-based RPG battles than most RPG games. The ones in Mother (Earthbound Zero) are actually closer to the ones in most other games.
RPG battles are fucking hell. I hate having to fight a 7 minute battle just because I touched a fucking enemy. I know that 'Run Away' exists, but it makes you lose coins and that's fucking poppycock. :/ But I love TTYD nonetheless. I also like Glitzville and boss RPG battles. Because of the stupid enemy RPG battles, I have 0 coins at the moment. :/

I mean, it was meant to be for the GameCube, but THIS IS ON THE WII!
It's also in the Wii playlist.
Your channel is quickly becoming one of the channels that I get excited about new videos for, keep up the awesome work!
Dear UA-cam,
I personally liked Sticker Star.
Hello.
Stop writing like this.
It isn't a fucking poem.
Thank you.
Goodbye.
I love Sticker Star, I loved it because my friend and I would play it, and he would always crack me up. It makes me sadder everytime I remember those days and realise he's left me. We weren't gay, we were just really good friends and we still are to this day but I can't see him in person anymore
Brodire2012 That's really sad. :( Why can't you see him? Far away? Dead? Sorry if it's too personal, feel free to not answer.
TheCookieCrusader he moved away
John Of Onett i really like the game.BRING IT ON HATERS

Same. SPM is way too underrated.
Ikr, its the best game
It's so dark, and interesting and a great story. I didn't like it first starting off, but once the story got into it, I was hooked. I couldn't stop until it was done. The final boss, the bosses, the story, Mr.L, the Underwhere, all of it made the game AWESOME!!!!
I'm glad you agree...
+DMAN 62102 Mr L and Dimentio are my favourites.
Travis Strong I also believe kami means paper in Japanese, so it may just be a paper goomba
It's true, either meaning could have been intended...but without the kanji we don't know which meaning was intended for sure. But regardless, your interpretation is correct too.
+Travis Strong Kami/koi = origami paper.
How is this not the most likely?
About the beta pixl, another theory is that it could make ladders for Mario and co. to climb.
UA-cam recommended me this video...
*IT IS 7 YEARS OLD!*
sticker star.... great rpg... those words don't mix very well
it would be fine as a typical mario game, but paper mario is prominently an RPG series... so when they try and remove leveling up, and that sort of stuff, it leaves a bad impression on fans of the series
im sure if they called the game just "mario sticker star" and maybe put some more time into the characters and story, it would be fine.
but as a paper mario game, it is lacking
replaced everything*
what the hell did they add
if anything they removed most of the stuff that made paper mario great
+Supirorguy508 They castrated the game and it was shit. sticker star that is
its bad as a paper mario game... maybe not if it were just a mario game
In the unused bit lands track I hear lugi's mansion
I freaking love Super Paper Mario, it was fantastic
Just started watching your video's and it is different than anything ive ever seen. These videos are fucking awesome but its a shame that you only made 12 so far, Keep up the good work!
Your vids are just the best. You really have ways of getting information. Keep up the good work, Andrew.
Kami means paper, God, and hair! I guess, it just meant paper.
HAIR GOOMBA
+Gregory Downes GOD GOOMBA
KAMIKAZE GOOMBA!!! WITH 99 HEALTH AND 10 ATTACK POWER
GOD GOOMBA.
Almighty explosion.

How did you write them?
Finally, someone who doesn't hate sticker star!
Nicholas Cuevas I haven't tried Super Mario: Sticker Star, but I might try it out.
Sticker star sucks. I can't even get past the cheep cheep giant battle! He cheats by going in the water, and shooting ranged attacks! God dammit!😡
+Nicholas Cuevas I liked sticker star but not as much as Paper Mario.
I'm really wondering why developers leave so many unused files in the final game.
Cheaper to leave them in there than to pay someone to remove them that's my guess
+Austin Zolo I like to learn about beta stuff
If they'll remake this game, I hope they'll include all the unusued files in the remake.
Super Paper Mario was the first Paper Mario game i played.
Yes! My favorite paper Mario game! Thousand year door comes in a close second though.
8:42 - Yes, you could replcate it, it would be a bit different thogh, using the C stick and a cursor.
Yeah, there's a level system. Every time you get an HP-UP heart, your HP goes up and your attack increases a little bit.
This game is SO underated!
I've been looking for this for too long. THANK YOU.
2:05 is breadward! A pixel made of oats and lard!

Beta64 how high were you? Calling Sticker Star an RPG is an insult to the whole genre
Dave Strider It's an RPG at the bare minimal. A "story" you must take place in, turn based battle. It's still shit though
@@theobserver4214 unpopular opinion time.... sticker Star was a good game
2022 EDIT: after replaying it, it is not as good as I remember it being. Because it was really bad
@@valenfraux That's not an opinion, you're just wrong.
@@Samevi yep, I replayed it recently, I regret saying it was good.
@@valenfraux It's really disappointing, too. I wanted to like it so badly. The beta looked so promising with the chain chomp partner and all. And then the final product we got was just... Bleh.
Paper Mario Sticker Star sucks
...but Super Paper Mario is a Great Paper Mario Game
i agree with you
I love paper Mario sticker star. look past the fact that its not what you wanted and you see its a very fun game.
+Brendan Siwik (WitherDead123) it's absolutely broken and empty of any good, gripping storyline like the past games, and you only have one partner, the enemies are bland, and the hub world is so small and empty, all the toads are the same, etc etc
But still, opinions aren't fact, but overall, it was a huge disappointment, and even if it is pretty OK, it's still infamous for being the worst out of the series, it could be good, but the others are better, and Nintendo hasn't learnt from it at all
at last in color splash u have a new place the special atacks aren't bigger cards unlimited card space
Yeah Sticker Star was a hit and miss
This is still my favorite Paper Mario game
I loved the Thousand-Year Door. That game has a special place in my heart, and it is fantastic.
>Sticker Star on the 3DS is a great RPG.
Eh, Dream Team and Paper Jam on the 3DS were great RPG's.
Sticker Star was sub-par.
I loved sticker star but super paper Mario and super Mario sunshine are the first games I played as far as my memory goes
XP
It wasn't even an RPG.
Calebite It was a Role Playing Game.
It was just a not-very-well-made one.
It has all the elements of an RPG necessary to classify as one. Turn based battle, a story which you must take part in, a Health system... That's about it, but that is what's needed to call a game an RPG.
+Kidincred Gamez What story?
4:40 Super Mario Sticker Star for the 3DS?
SPM is THE best game story wise in the franchise. Screw TTYD haters.

Super paper Mario is not just my favorite paper Mario game it is my favorite Mario game

I have my SPM Disc, how do I check the files in my Windows PC?
You get the ROM and use filescrubber
I still prefer The Thousand Year Door
+Burned Frozen (BurnedandFrozen) I think both are great in their own rights. And since they are so different, you can't compare them.
+Burned Frozen (BurnedandFrozen) I don't! I consider them equals!
No one asked

I remember this one.... I actually fucking loved it.
I feel like someone seen someone say something bad about this game so everyone started saying bad things but everyone actually loves this game
The entirety of the comments section: "Nyah nyah whine whine butthurt Why Isn't This Game More Like TTYD I Hate This Game butthurt whine."
Me: "This is my second favorite game of all time (my favorite being Superstar Saga.) The soundtrack is godly, the story is incredible, the gameplay was addicting, and the puzzles were awesome although challenging, and the characters were millions of times more colorful than pretty much any other game.
Cyrus Crompton
The Enigmansion! Loved that level!
Yeah the enigmansion was definitely a highlight. Perhaps even better than Boo's Mansion from the original Paper Mario.
i wonder why no RPG battle in this paper mario? RPG battle are awesome ;D
There was one with a boss in Chapter 7
Underchomp battle doesn't look like "Paper Mario original Rpg Battle".
This look like a kind of Mother1 Rpg battle
Yoshi Agentyoshi (Earthbound is awesome.) Oh, yeah and also Paper Mario and Paper Mario 2 has *MUCH* different turn-based RPG battles than most RPG games. The ones in Mother (Earthbound Zero) are actually closer to the ones in most other games.
***** Super Mario RPG is the same combat at Paper Mario 1/2 also!
Could you do the beta of the original Paper Mario?
I ask for the same... and about Paper Mario TTYD too.
Dummy was specifically taken from one of SMB3's vinyl album releases seemingly, going by the pops
Love this game, and now my oldest son loves it too!
Who else agrees Nintendo should port Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door to Wii U? I swear, that game would sell like crazy
i agree
I think it's in the virtual console
I think they should because it is a great game & on wii u that would make it 100 times better do it Nintendo! Do it for the fans!

NO NO NO. The E_KAMI_KURIBO stand for enemy paper goober. Kami means paper in Japanese. And it would make more sense that way.
Cruz Avery that and the fact that black gombas have been in the Mario series since the very first Super Mario
CruzAveryTV / くるうず えーばり Kami can mean much more than paper.
yea but its in the files of 'PAPER' mario. So i would think it means 'PAPER'
CruzAveryTV / くるうず えーばり i wasn't thinking when i made that comment, was I
No, you had good point :)
This is without a doubt the best Paper Mario game out there
I love the unused Bitlands music!
