  • Today’s video wasn’t shot under the bEST circumstances… I was overcaffeinated, underfed, pressed for time, and honestly errr not looking my cutest. But ya know, it’s been a wfh week for me and I wanted to prove to myself and you guys that I can churn out content beautifully when work doesn’t get in the way. You’d be surprised how much I had to cut out of this video bc I was stuttering and just not peak performance today. But hEY. It’s good enough, I hope! I did struggle, I think, to do this film justice. It’s a whopper. But at the end of the day I can’t let perfectionism keep me from producing.

Omg I know I’m not a patron or anything but I think you would love SYMPTOMS from 1974 subtle female psychological horror. Not really giallo but was directed by the same guy who did that vampire lesbians on the beach movie you watched not long ago only this is more classy n veryyy well done

I had just finished watching the Corruption of Chris Miller on Dailymotion, when I saw you posted this video. Concerning Corruption, I thought it was good, and your review was spot on. Your review of this film is probably just as accurate, so I will have to hunt this movie down. No vegan commercials on Dailymotion. Another good 70s gay serial killing movie is Cruising, which was made in the 70s staring Al Pacino. Corruption might have been inspired by Poe's The Black Cat.

@4:40 Not that I necessarily disagree as which should the default approach from the dominant party in relationship going down the drain, but I tend to think about these on a case by case bases. So in principle ghosting isn't less toxic and dangerous from maintaining an on/off dysfunctional relationship. The main difference is that ghosting sends the dominant party in blissful ignorance (including a lot of danger by avoiding dealing with any sort of stressful problem), while the weaker party is destroyed emotionally, put in state of desperation which creates greater dangers for both. Again not saying one is better than the other, they are both shit, but emotional maturity is very rare. Breaking up is very tough, but necessary for the people we love, but can't take that extra step of all the miserable boomer couples, because we care about ourselves too and our children's wellbeing.

Most modern giallo totally "Miss the plot".
Knife + Heart is no different.
I like the ending in the theater with the killer reveal.
When she leaves for some random town; the film totally felt like the film went on a detour. I just felt like the actual murder mystery, story, investigation was pretty boring.
So my view on the film is "it's decent."
"For most of this film, I was thinking like "This is not really like a giallo" Exactly. Which is the biggest problem with modern giallo movies.
Again, the entire POINT of a giallo movie is "This is a murder mystery" It's suspense, it's a thriller. All of which modern giallo movies fundamentally lack.
As I said, I found the plot "murder mystery" boring as hell, because it's barely in the film. And again, you also really liked the reveal/ending because...it actually felt like a giallo movie "I just wished it didn't take so long to come to fruition" Exactly my thoughts, like the entire film I am going "This is not a giallo. I aint feeling this. Killer reveal at the end "Now it actually does feel like a giallo movie."
So basically, my thoughts on Knife + knife are the same as yours. We both liked the ending because it actually felt like a giallo movie. The rest of the film didn't feel like a giallo movie and therefor, for me at least, I don't like it. Sorry, but the ending to your giallo movie shouldn't be the only "feels like giallo" moment in your movie. The entire FILM should feel like a giallo movie.
So ya, I found it boring, uninteresting. Another great example of modern giallo that misses the entire point of a giallo movie. A modern giallo movie that thinks "I'm being artsy" is the entire point of a giallo, NOT thrills, suspense, twists, and turns, murder mysteries, etc. Modern gialli are just incapable of getting the entire point of a giallo movie. They seem to be nothing more then "I like the way they LOOK" it's pure style over substance.....but of course genuine authentic giallo movies had style AND substance.
As you said "I like when the mystery, you can kind of participate in solving the mystery because the film feeds you some clues" YA, I love that about giallo movies. That is what I love so much about Eyeball. I actually LOVE the exposition - because you as an audience member can nodd your head and play along. Knife + heart, again does not have that. Most modern giallo movies do not have that. I'd say about 98% of all modern giallo movies do not have that.
So ya, not a fan of Knife + heart. I had the exact same thoughts and reaction.
Just got done watching a 1950's French film....it was okay, kind of liked it?
I wanted it to be MORE French. The main character I feel like was kind of miscasted. I just couldn't really get into her character.
Still, the film had something to it. So I'll give it a rewatch, to see if I like it more the second time around, but I aint rewatching it any time soon though. Also...was not expecting the film to be in English. So the film felt too.....American to me, which is not what I was looking forward to, it felt half French and half American.
