I feel like mbti should be used to loosely understand the other person's personality, but shouldnt be treated like the words are carved in stone. People change and personalities change. Two people having the same mbti can be very different.
Wrong.. personalities don’t change. That change you think is going on is 2 sides of the same coin. The part we neglect or too ashamed to showcase, it’s an unconscious awakening. People that “changed” have always been there that way, they just finally came out the closet
personalty DO CHANGED through out a person live according to their experiences, personal milestone, work, culture and so much more as for me i have try this 2 different times and got 2 different results the time difference is at least a few month
no online test (that i've seen) was able to prove that MBTI is real. You only get to see how real it gets if you study the cognitive functions, which i did. Learning MBTI really helped me with my personal life etc, so i recommend for people interested in learning more about themselves
the jungian analytical side is still a pseudoscience. at best, it’s relatively helpful at generally characterizing people, but the problem is that the follower base of this psychology is so cultish that they essentially believe you’re a product of your functions and use it to justify or invalidate every thought, feeling or action from individuals and trap people (and themselves) in a box. For example, INTJ justifies his narcissism by saying “I just have Ni hero and Fi child, so you can’t expect me to act like an Fe user !!!”
tbh I think the cognitive functions are the more useful stuff in mbti, just taking a random quiz alone is not much better than a BuzzFeed quiz. Also, the I or E as the first letter mean you are an in/extrovert. Some cognitive functions stack are just more extroverted than others and and I can be more extroverted in the layman sense than an E. eg. you can definitely find a more extroverted ISFJ than an ENTP just because ISFJ has Fe high on their function stack and ENTP has Ne Ti on top which aren't that extroverted out of the functions
this!! cognitive functions and function stacks are not only better at depicting the types and their nuances but they’re also way more interesting than the basics IMO
Agree! The cognitive functions and function stacks are the stuff that can be used to develop yourself in many ways, including to understand the basic of your thought rather than to just categorise people in each personality group. It really just more useful and well-defined to me.
Imo it's more interesting but it's almost as bad at grasping any nuances in personality. In theory people with the same "stack" as me should act similarly, yet everyone I see with the INTP stack (supposedly the one I'm most aligned with) is a wreck socially, financially, and/or mentally which I can't identify with at all (while they seem to revel in it). Like half of their personalities just seem to be identifying with dysfunctional levels of ADHD, autism, and misanthropy. Their "logical" thinking skills pretty much only extend to thinking everyone else is wrong about everything without the rigor to back it up, or blaming everyone else for their poor communication skills (instead, they say they just think "too logically" for everyone else to understand). You can argue they are "less healthy" variants or whatever, but I genuinely cannot identify with their way of thinking about life or approaching social situations, yet we supposedly share the "same" personality type. I just don't buy it. You can't reduce something like personality into 4 binary dimensions without losing most of the shape. Interesting to talk about, but please don't take it too seriously.
I find the 16 personality test resonates with me quite a bit. Just helping you find some of your strengths and understanding why some things challenge you is really useful to me.
I think things are on a spectrum, and mbti is like putting you in two boxes of 50-50 so someone who is 10% extrovert will be called as an introvert and one who is 49% extrovert will also be called as introvert so the extend to which you fit the defination of particular mbti will differ.. and sometimes you don't really relate much with your mbti because of this issue of dichrotomy... so people who are on the extreme ends will more likely to relate to it.. like I'm very introverted, very intuitive, thinking a lot before making decision, also I like exploration more than sticking to one thing (what ifs.. ) so I'm INTP and I've never related to anything more than INTP personality type, it feels like somehow they know me all inside out.. almost 100% of the things about INTP fits me..
what’s so funny is my friend who’s really into the psychology of this stuff, not as much MBTI but more the functions, had me take the “real” test and not the inaccurate one, and when it gave me a result that he disagreed with based on his personal assessment, he just told me I took the test wrong.
I've found it's a little too real for me. But since the four letters are your first choice of action, you can choose the opposite choice. Like I'm INFJ, but for work I change to INTJ.
In my experience, MBTI was useful when layered with other personality testing. Think of personality testing like layering birth control methods (hear me out)... For the sake of this discussion, let's assume these personality tests are mostly accurate with a 25% failure rate. If you layer those failure rates by stacking the personality tests, you'll have a lower failure rate just like if you used condoms while on the birth control pill. The failure rate plummets the more you stack exponentially towards 0% failure (in theory). So back to the personality tests, if you stack two good ones like the Strong Interest Inventory Profile with the MBTI you'll have an interesting venn diagram of a person with a fairly low failure rate. Let's assume both tests fail at 25% which when layered results in ~6% failure rate (0.25*0.25=0.625). Which is pretty damn accurate for a personality test. And the results of the Strong Interest Inventory Profile paired with MBTI are intended to be reviewed by the subject and a career counselor to help them consider their career options. A lot of people will write off entire fields even if they might actually enjoy them. Then consider mass work place testing to compare and contrast you against the current people in those positions and you have a very solid jumping off point. For example, the career counselor might say, "Your testing indicates you have the XYZ typing, and oh look XYZs predominantly appear in early education. Have you considered that career? Why or why not? The next highest demographic of XYZs is in nursing. Have you considered that?" Like Tarot cards, personality tests should induce reflection and can be really useful when helping someone reflect on their skills and interests. I actually had never considered a career in IT until taking my Strong & MBTI test through my university's career services department. And the career counselor was a really awesome and supportive person who helped me interpret my test results and start sampling the careers that floated to the top. And yeah, honestly I think the test was pretty damn accurate in ways I hadn't anticipated. And it helped me select classes to test what career field I wanted to go into. Without it, I would probably still be grinding my way thru a degree in accounting and setting myself up for misery and boredom. At least in IT I might be miserable, but I won't be bored. Interestingly, engineering was also high on my results. And while I like engineering, I personally didn't feel like climbing the good old boy ladder as a lady. At least in IT I was more likely to end up working with a furry and a generally more welcoming workplace culture. Which that preference wouldn't show up in personality test hence the reflection with a career counselor. Just my two cents. I hope someone find it interesting. And if you're struggling with determining your career but know where to start, I'd recommend it. It might shine some light on options you didn't really know you had! Edit: Btw I'm in my first IT position and I love it. Maybe I just got lucky, but I definitely feel like the career testing helped!
Yea, no wonder why 90 percent of people say they’re infps while I’m an actual one who’s found out I’m an Fi dominant 🫡. Also most of these people are millennials so I do feel slight fear considering I’m younger. Just a bit
I have tried to find actual studies about if you feed wrong test results to a person who did the test would they accept them. I found 2 test which have extrovert or introvert result. Except test makers gave the opposite to their test group and then they had to interview random person. The people who got introvert answer but got told that they were extroverts performed better than people who were told that they were introverts. Altho a warning: both of these tests had really small number of people in them (iirc 20-ish) and I believe all people tested on were university students and thus these 2 small studies don't prove the placebo effect. I am trying to find more since the theory is there. Early results lean to people accepting results even when they are wrong - even possibly changing them to act according to the result even if the result was wrong.
I would recommend to use cognitive functions because it's so much more accurate. It can be difficult to understand in the beginning but you will eventually get a hang of it
MBTI works 100% of the time in my test. "What test?" You might ask. Simple: the person typed as INTP almost certainly has multiple tabs open on their browser at the same time. That's about the extent I'm willing to extend its usefulness to though.
MBTI as well as most typing systems are psuedoscience. there. that’s the easy answer: they’re not nuanced enough and therefore they are not accurate measures of how someone is, especially if they are basing their MBTI off a test result or a vague description. the cognitive functions and stacks are really cool to me, though. i’m a fan of jung and his theories and though MBTI is most definitely a pseudoscience, it can be fascinating for people who are looking to know themselves better and on a deeper level. it’s an entry. it should stay as that, though.
I agree! I think the most interesting part of the MBTI is the cognitive function which focus on what’s going on in your head more than just define on who you are or will be! Although, the MBTI, like you said, is just an entry level for someone to explore, or, just like the guy in the video said, to grasp the basics concept of your personality. It’s great if we don’t take it too seriously, but it’s a shame that some people take it too seriously. In the end, I hope to see more people talking more about cognitive functions rather than just the MBTI. Glad to see, you’re Jung fan’s too!
That's funny, I was always an INTJ since I took the test for the firsts time, but I finally started socializing and becoming more extroverted and my most recent result is ENFJ, so basically I'm switching from Quinten to Jesper, except I've been bottling my adhd and I'm only unbottling it now so it feels like it's the other way around lol
To me personality is kinda like a slime slowly drying out. It's still plastic when it's old, but not as much as it used to me. MBPT only mesurs where you lie between two points, but what about the other dimensions and how can you know both of the points are good opposites. Our own perception also differs from how other people might perceive us. The way the questions are asked can also be a factor as well as our daily mood changes, but I do still think it can give a general idea of someone, but I'd be careful with putting people into boxes. I guess it's a way of feeling grounded when the world feels unstable and unpredictable
But the real question is, how common are all the types. Aware infj is the rarest. {BTW, before we dive in yea I studied cognitive functions I’m not stupid okay 😭}. Because recently I discovered im indeed an infp BUT the catch is everyone seems to be one 😭😭😭, and I’ve felt even fear rather. It’s because a lot of these people are millennials who are obsessed with it, PLEASE FOR DEAR GOODNESS LEAVE INFPS LIKE ME ALONE PLEASE 😔😔🙁. I just want a peaceful life and I want to be truthful about how rare my type is, we’re not that rare nor common 😅 I wa don the cusp of being an enfp actually because I could be kinda extroverted though I lead by Fi and I’ve always felt this inner guilt and such.
It is a personality test. Has 4 letters, all of which has 2 options. So 2x2x2x2= 16 different personality types. It's like horoscope but you just do a buzz test and see a result trying to explain what kinda person you are.
The tests cannot be fully accurate. Watch Frank James' videos, they help you get a gage on how each mbti acts, which can help you see what type you are.
People dont know how deep MBTI actually goes, cognitive functions explains way more and on top of that people dont realise that we have actually four types in all of us. Our main type is called our ego, but we also obtain a super ego, subconscious and unconscious. They are all different letters. I am an infj, but i can be enfp, istj, or estp, depending on my mindset or environment. and to go even deeper we can be ud/uf or sd/uf or many ither variations of our ego type.
I don't understand why people still rely on the pseudo-scientific MBTI test when there's literally a system that is used all the time in psychological studies. In case you're wondering: The Big 5 personalities, also known as the OCEAN model.
I feel like mbti should be used to loosely understand the other person's personality, but shouldnt be treated like the words are carved in stone. People change and personalities change. Two people having the same mbti can be very different.
