Undoubtedly this song is about an unrequited love, the impression I get from the lyrics is that it was a relationship gone wrong, and the two of them drifted apart.
This song feels like the transition between not wanting to die to accepting death. It starts out very melancholic and carries that feeling throughout the entire song. But by the end, it feels like Joji and Benee are saying “I don’t want this to happen, but it’s happening anyway so we just have to deal with it.” It’s beautiful. Joji and Benee captured the feeling really well which is why it’s one of the more emotionally powerful songs on the album. This song feels like the transition between not wanting to die to accepting death. It starts out very melancholic and carries that feeling throughout the entire song. But by the end, it feels like Joji and Benee are saying “I don’t want this to happen, but it’s happening anyway so we just have to deal with it.” It’s beautiful. Joji and Benee captured the feeling really well which is why it’s one of the more emotionally powerful songs on the album. If it had production like run and sanctuary, this could’ve easily been one of the best songs of 2020 and 2021.
