- Join us at the site of the old Memorial Stadium where the Baltimore Colts used to play. Today's video is not about the football players, but the other athletes on the field-- the Baltimore Colts cheerleaders! Began in 1954, they were the very first cheerleaders in the NFL. We are thrilled to have several former Baltimore Colt cheerleaders with us as our special guests to tell us what it was like firsthand. Thanks for watching and see you next week with another video.
This is our series called "Five Minute Histories." Every week, we’ll record a short video about a different historic place in Baltimore and post it on our Facebook page and UA-cam channel.

GREAT EPISODE!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
One of the best 5-minute histories. Lots of memories came back with this one. I had the good fortune of seeing both Andy and Gino in their respective restaurants. Gino was actually flipping burgers and teaching a new employee.
Thank you!
Ms Thelma just turned 90 this week, my mom May Lou was on the squad just turned 87, my aunt Joan, was also on it sadly passed already.
What wonderful memories.
Oh I really enjoyed this History Minute episode! Great story & it's nice to know Baltimore led the way in professional Cheerleading for the NFL! Go Colts!
Thanks, "Shiny" Johns!!! At the mention of Gino Marchetti (sp?), wasn't he the founder of BMore's burger chain GINOs which, I believe pre-dated MacDonald'? I remember passing the flagship location at North Ave & St. Paul everyday leaving Eastern High School. GREAT STORY!
Yes! Gino = Gino's!
As a 8 years season ticket holder this got me choked up. I’m 71 years old.Love The Baltimore Colts forever
