For the PS2 consoles at 3:37 - the original run of Japanese systems had PCMCIA slots as opposed to the IDE hard drive compatible slots we got later on.
That PS2 with the expansion slot was for the first generation SCPH-1xxxx series Japanese only Playstation 2's. The expansion slot was meant to accommodate a card connected to a HDD module and/or an Ethernet card. (sometimes in one module.) The later modules had the full size expansion bay and did not use the card.
It is H. Kojima. My friend has 2 or 3 things signed by him. In that era I was close to a Konami UK employee who became close to Kojima. Whenever MGS stuff came out, we got signed copies.
3:43 The reason you don’t remember our PS2’s having the different expansion slot is because what you saw were the original scph 10000 model of the PS2. Basically, this was the very first model that came out in March 2000 and was completely different from our launch model witch is the scph 30000. The differences between this and our model is the expansion slot on the back is a pci card slot instead of a hard drive slot, and this model DOESNT have native dvd support. They came with a boot disk in the box.
Awesome! Would love to visit Tokyo in person and pick up some more Japanese games! I can play alot of imported stuff on my Retro Freak, and things like that. So I'd like to expand on my Japanese collection!
This was the one and only game store I had the opportunity to visit while I visited Japan in March of 2016. Personally I did love it! I got a famicom, FDS, and a few games there. If you haven’t already, you should check out the game stores in New York City when you get a chance!
Did you get a chance to go to the store in Super Potato store in ikebukuro. It's a lot smaller than the Akihabara store and when I went in there I was the only person in there lol.
it was literally the exact same box and everything to the one you held, obviously fully in english, couldn't see if your video was written in Japanese or english. It was basically xx amount of games (I wanna say 50ish) and plugged into the tv via composite. It cost me about £40 and i sold it shortly after for about £50. Great video dude, really enjoyed watching this
I had used your video series as a primer for my own game buying in japan. I actually picked up very little as the prices for saturn games were High but nothing I had not seen before. Saturn, at least in November 2017, was pretty slim pickings! I went to Super Potato(Tokyo), multiple Book Offs and Mandarakes, Geo, and a few others on my trip from Tokyo to Osaka. Megadrive was the real shocker. 50000yen or more for so many games that I own but can not find!!! Pro-tip for Super Potato: the upstairs arcade is very smokey. If you do not smoke, avoid it. If you do smoke or can tolerate smoke, please just hang out up there, get a drink, play some bullet hell shooters.
Def deals to be found at that Super Potato and other SP's, as well as other stores in the area like Book off and others. Prices can vary between each and even within the same chain so a game that was $20 there I'd find at another for $2. Good to know what you're looking for and how much they cost before going for sure. At that SP in particular I loaded up on plenty of playstation, saturn, and tons of PC Engine games. Some were pricier than normal so I could skip them but many others were massively discounted from other sources. And do check those side shops for more goodies, there's treasure abound!
Yeah, while the Akihabara one is more difficult, you can make some great deals at Super Potato. I found Mandarake and Book-Off to be incredibly cheap, but I also picked up a lot of stuff that was worth it at the Super Potato in Nagoya. You also have to consider the amazing condition they manage to keep their products in there.
Even though you don't have a power supply for the Neo Geo CD are you still going to do a cleaning and restoring video on it? I'm very curious what the inside of one of those looks like.
Akiba is still really cool, but from what I understand it's not nearly what it was in the 1990s. Now there's more maid cafes than otaku head shops. If you haven't been there, next time you come you should go to Nakano Broadway. There's not a ton in the way of actual video games, but it's a veritable museum of ancillary swag, a lot of it REAL damn old.
It's the same power supply as the more common top loaders, i don't think there's any 3rd party options. Should be able to find one on ebay for 20-30 eventually.
What serial number you get on the loader? I have 1300 and something. Only 25000 made and as you say, well worth a punt broken or not they will only become more sought after as more people discover their rarity and significance. You can get power supply on yamatoku classic on eBay fairly often for around forty dollars and his stuff is always good condition from experience.
Just search for yamatoku classic on eBay and do a saved search for Neo Geo...every now and then he has controllers power supplies etc. Not exactly daily but I would say you would get one from him fairly easily. Often see them boxed etc.
there is no 3rd party psu, been looking for ages because i buy and sell these pretty often. Expect to pay around $50. As for the console there are only a couple of things that usually go wrong with them and if you know your way around a Phillips head its no big deal.
the issue with the psu is that the connector to the console is unique, three prong 12v 5v and ground. Cant even find the connector itself to make my own psu. IF I AM WRONG PLEASE TELL ME WHERE I CAN GET ONE!
You’re the only person I know with insight into portugal, and with Net Neutrality being a hot issue I thought I’d ask. I was led to believe Portugal has no laws on Net Neutrality, what does that mean for internet use there?
I found a gbc for 50 yen "junk". It was missing the batter cover, but other than that it was fine... ; - ; My gbc doesn't even have the battery cover. According to them, it would be junk apparently.
Awesome pickups Adam! Those SNES games are pretty neat. That's an amazing deal on a Neo Geo CD. You can get replacement power supplies off of ebay...they cost around #20ish?
Did u ever come across metal wolf chaos out in the wild in Japan? And if so why didn't you get it for me? ;) They even had quite a few boxed virtual boy games there, if I'm not mistaken. Yea I can imagine the locals don't bother with it, they're all off usin Japanese ebay that westerners can't get on or figure out (if they're dumb like me) Those little snes carts are crazy
I did, I even messaged you about it man, as I recall you said it was too much....or you didn't get back to me. It was back in like April though. Even there, that game is still expensive.
Third comment, 4th viewer! I have a question for you, Adam: Are you still optimistic about the Shenmue III Kickstarter campaign, or do you think that nothing is going to come out of it for a the time being? If you are optimistic, do you think that the game will be coming to PC as well as consoles? Interesting video as always :)
and as for the Neo Geo CD proprietary power supply... If your able to tell me the pinout, the voltage requirement etc, I have the ability to make you one, and ship it out to you.. I make power supplies by hand, have done multiple, all worked flawlessly
Yaldabaoth, you're right. Sega IS more popular there than Nintendo. I still don't get why the Dreamcast failed. (That was an understatement, I know why)
For the PS2 consoles at 3:37 - the original run of Japanese systems had PCMCIA slots as opposed to the IDE hard drive compatible slots we got later on.
Did you notice the Back to the Future II game for SEGA Master System at 6:09?
That PS2 with the expansion slot was for the first generation SCPH-1xxxx series Japanese only Playstation 2's. The expansion slot was meant to accommodate a card connected to a HDD module and/or an Ethernet card. (sometimes in one module.) The later modules had the full size expansion bay and did not use the card.
I'm pretty certain that the Metal Gear box was signed by Hideo Kojima (as H. Kojima), the game's director and designer.
Where? I don't see his name anywhere on it.
On the bottom left, it says 1998 and below that H. Kojima. The middle bar of the H extends to become the middle bar of the A.
I caught that too. Probably why it's not for sale.
It is H. Kojima. My friend has 2 or 3 things signed by him. In that era I was close to a Konami UK employee who became close to Kojima. Whenever MGS stuff came out, we got signed copies.
I need to get to Japan and check out the Splatoon scene.
That's fascinating. There are no stores like this where i live. I'd just walk through and look at all the stuff for hours.
3:43 The reason you don’t remember our PS2’s having the different expansion slot is because what you saw were the original scph 10000 model of the PS2. Super Potato? That's hilarous! What about some Super Fries?
Gameplayer 119 super tatter tots
Congratulations on getting the Neo Geo CD Adam
These videos are really cool! I really want to go to Japan now! Thanks for sharing with us! :)
Thanks for watching!
Adam's going to be traveling to alternate universes when he runs out of non-clone consoles to buy.
Ha.
He will return with a Sega Neptune and Atari Panther
Xeno's Wacky Technology Adventures don't forget Jaguar VR
Awesome! Would love to visit Tokyo in person and pick up some more Japanese games! I can play alot of imported stuff on my Retro Freak, and things like that. So I'd like to expand on my Japanese collection!

That MGS thing was obviously signed by Kojima.
Gegege No Kitaro is a manga/anime from the 60's. Killer stuff.
Did you get a chance to go to the store in Super Potato store in ikebukuro. It's a lot smaller than the Akihabara store and when I went in there I was the only person in there lol.
+dylan craven This was the only Super Potato in Tokyo I went to.
Sigh... I miss Japan. Thanks for posting this, Adam.
Welcome.
The Mega Drive 3 was released in the UK too
+Daniel Ibbertson As like a weird controller?

Huh, interesting.
Thanks!
Your very lucky to visit Super Potato everyday or once in awhile
I recently went to japan in late october and i went to this same store and i got a famicom and some games this place is awesome

Glad I could help!
cool video adam
Great video Adam
Thanks!
Hey, you can build That PSU relatively easily, it doesn't have any weird voltages, just 5 and 10 Volts DC..
Another awesome vid! :-D
Thanks!
this thumbnail !! xD

Exactly, immaculate condition in most cases for sure.
i love Super Potato! last time i went i found an unopened copy of Shenmue for Y2,000.
i think i still like the Book Offs better though...
May the force be with you.
Even though you don't have a power supply for the Neo Geo CD are you still going to do a cleaning and restoring video on it? I'm very curious what the inside of one of those looks like.
Hard to since I can't really verify any of the results.
Adam Koralik Well I hope you come by a power supply soon. It would be so cool if the console works.
so much neo geo, congrats on the neo geo cd. That model isn't easy to find.
Thanks.
You planning on doing a cleaning/ repair video for the neo geo cd if/when you get power cables?
I'd like to, but without the cable it doesn't have much point.
Akiba is still really cool, but from what I understand it's not nearly what it was in the 1990s. Now there's more maid cafes than otaku head shops. If you haven't been there, next time you come you should go to Nakano Broadway. 1:29 Holy shit, they actually have a Japanese copy of Comix Zone. That's one of the rarest JP Megadrive games, believe it or not.
(correction) I know you cant read katakana but you showed the ultraman games out of order with what you were saying.
It's the same power supply as the more common top loaders, i don't think there's any 3rd party options. Should be able to find one on ebay for 20-30 eventually.
Would be nice.

Where to go to buy games then?
I'd love to have a neogeo cd.
there is no 3rd party psu, been looking for ages because i buy and sell these pretty often. Expect to pay around $50. As for the console there are only a couple of things that usually go wrong with them and if you know your way around a Phillips head its no big deal.

I don't have intimate knowledge of it, but my girlfriend would be the first to say her internet sucks (she lives there).
I found a gbc for 50 yen "junk".
It was missing the batter cover, but other than that it was fine...
; - ;
My gbc doesn't even have the battery cover.
According to them, it would be junk apparently.
I'm intrigued by the PS2's. What is that cartridge slot? RAM expansion? Internal storage?
Jan Trancer Růža
It is a PCMCIA slot.
It is a PCMCIA slot that was only on the initial (SCPH-1xxxx) consoles that were only released in Japan.
Without that power supply, are you still willing to do a retrospective on the console?
+Chris Shriver Kind of hard to.
Adam Koralik Hard to disagree there. Hopefully you can get that power supply sooner rather than later.
What are those like half a coat Splatoon things?
Did u ever find the the power supply for it?
Yep!
I saw some AES stuff :) good video adam, too bad you got haters on your channel and thumbs you down :/
: Shrugs. :
Get a body cam. Quite familiar with yen conversion rate since I order from Japan non stop.
Somebody just coined a new sign-off .
Awesome pickups Adam! Those SNES games are pretty neat. That's an amazing deal on a Neo Geo CD. You can get replacement power supplies off of ebay...they cost around #20ish?
I think those are AES adapters.
Damn the only one I saw is a NIB one for like $105.71 that's nuts!
Incidentally, "super potato" is also my nickname for the ps4 pro
Im bummed...you deserve more subs/views. I actually find it surprising...:(
PS: sweet superman shirt!!!
+johnnyscifi Thanks!
Did u ever come across metal wolf chaos out in the wild in Japan? And if so why didn't you get it for me? ;)
They even had quite a few boxed virtual boy games there, if I'm not mistaken. Yea I can imagine the locals don't bother with it, they're all off usin Japanese ebay that westerners can't get on or figure out (if they're dumb like me)

Adam Koralik oh fuck yea I remember now haha sorry man. And thanks! :) yea it was too hot for my dollar.
Third comment, 4th viewer!

Interesting video as always :)
Luke Weeks
The Shenmue III kickstarter campaign didnt get enough money...?
Thats depressing
Very cool super Famicom stuff. I sure hope you find p.s.u. for that neo Geo c.d. bad boy. Very cool show more super Famicom more neo Geo please
and as for the Neo Geo CD proprietary power supply... If your able to tell me the pinout, the voltage requirement etc,
I have the ability to make you one, and ship it out to you..
I make power supplies by hand, have done multiple, all worked flawlessly
+Gamerdude 1989 Thanks! Honestly, no idea. Electronics are not my forte.
Their JUNK bin is a As is Clearance bin.
I would ask at Neo-geo.com forum for the AC adapter.
Is this a repost?
Sorry to ask if it isn't. Just seems familiar.
I did a different Super Potato video in a different location six months ago. This is a different video of a different store in a different city.
6:17 how did you not see the "H KoJImA" on the box my guy
I noticed some Sega signs at 0:28. You by any chance stop to get Sega games?
Like what? Nintendo? Everybody knows that company has been infringing patents since the Gamecube.
Sega runs arcades there, produces the arcade machines and sells toys. That's their main business.
Yaldabaoth, you're right. Sega IS more popular there than Nintendo. I still don't get why the Dreamcast failed. (That was an understatement, I know why)
My bank account would be empty if I were to travel to Japan :P
Its cheaper then my country, so its not as bad as Adam says if you are from northern Europe.
+SpillVorset I say it from the perspective of an American because that's what I am sir.
I now dude, no hard feelings here, it was just a mesage to my fellow Vikings :) All we have is Gamestop :S
adam there is a new Power Supply on ebay for £55
NICE!!!
Bandai Lock On Technology!
Haha. They set up a trap, and it worked. You went there to look, but you bought stuff. That's exactly what they are aiming for.
Victory!
Why infamous?
Game collector's around the world know this store.
If you want a neo Geo power supply message Luke Morse on UA-cam he lives in Japan and can source you one pretty easily.
Here's a link to the power supply I believe en.retrogamesupply.com/products/power-supply-for-snk-neo-geo-aes
