  • We often tell people to buy a Mazda CX-5. So we brought up a list of all the competition: Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Ford Escape, etc., and talked about why we'd take the Mazda over them all.

It’s 2024 and the CX 5 is still here.
As hard as Mazda has tried to discontinue it, they can’t. It’s still their best selling model.
We love our 2024. It’s a classic and will never be replaced for what it has been and still is. 👍

This is a great car. My brother’s owned 2. I personally find the gauge cluster pretty dated, infotainment frustrating to use, and the steering way to heavy. Also the cargo space compared to competitors is on the small side. Other than that, great little crossover - neither ever gave my brother any problems (2015 and 2021)

    • @chriskelly509

I hardly ever use the gauge cluster as I'm always looking at the HUD. The infotainment isn't the worst, but could use an update. I'd like if the screen was touch screen as well as rotary dial.

This is the best driving and most premium in the class but where it falls short compared to its competitors is gas mileage and interior space. The others all have more room/storage or better mpg with hybrid option/CVT. If those are not important then this is the best option for the money in my opinion.

This is it. Right here. Doesn't matter how good the drive is, if your back seat passenger feel like they're in Camaro, whats the point? And if you dont have passengers, why a CUV in the first place.

@@NoodlesExtraMSG for small/new family its a great car, still has utility while retain driving dynamic n sporty feels. none of the competitors like tucson, sportage, crv, rav 4 has this sporty feels and performance with good build quality and low NVH. obviously mazda has to make compromises such as outdated tech and old drivetrain to keep the price as it is.. also 2nd row may not be the best in its class but its still doable, plus camaro cant fit a whole bicycle even folding the back seats

    • @jimmy5634
      @jimmy5634 5 місяців тому

@@NoodlesExtraMSG why an SUV? Because when you’re 70 they are easier to get in and out of. You sit higher on the road for better vision.
You can load groceries and other items more easily than in the trunk of a sedan. That’s why.
It’s just my wife and I and we own another larger SUV to haul people. It’s roomy and comfortable. Most people have two cars these days, it’s 2024.
At its affordable price point, the CX 5 offers a sporty, fun driving, European style vehicle.
      It’s a niche’ product.

The Achilles heel of the CX-5 is indeed the mpg. My 2024 Carbon (naturally aspirated) edition has been getting around 24-25 mpg in winter and 26-27 mpg in spring in combined local (around 60%) and highway. Some of my co-workers have other CUV's and achieve signficantly better mileage (say, 30 mpg plus).
However, they all wish that their vehicle had more power. Not so with the CS-5. Off the line, the clutch design puts me ahead of everyone else (okay, not including Tesla or Porshe, etc.) even with me just touching the gas pedal. Passing on the highway is a dream as is entering a 55-mph road (even when not in Sport mode). Give me this naturally-aspirated 2.5L 6-speed (traditional) transmission over 99% of competitors [no, over all others. Keep your CVT's, your 1.5L with turbo, even your hybrids with unproven long-term reliability]
In case you can't tell: I LOVE MY CX-5!!!

Thanks, I'm the happy owner of a 2019 CX-5 Signature with over 58,500 trouble free miles so far. I think it's the best CUV in it's class for the money and competes with others costing $10-15,000 more.
Like the new CX-50, but I think the CX-5 is still a little better. I'm looking forward to seeing the hybrid version of the CX-50. Hopefully soon.

If youre used to the cx5, Id say stick with it. The cx50 has stiffer suspension in the rear to tow more. Ive heard ride quality suffers because of that. At the very least test drive the two back to back to compare.

I have the 2019 gt turbo. Would buy this model again. Better mileage than RDx and faster acceleration. While some complain about cargo space, it has more than the x3. Just took a trip to Florida from Ontario. On the highway, I was getting 33 miles per gallon. Then seat could be longer for thigh support. I also spend some time with the 2022 signiture. Mazda has fixed the seat. The ride is more compliant over bumps. Not that the 2019 is punishing.

If the CX-5 is the best, it just got dethroned by the CX-50. The -50 has more versatility than the -5 and I think the -50 looks better. I would happily trade my 2016 CX-5 Touring AWD on a CX-50 Grand Touring or CX-9 Touring (both AWD). I have no qualms w/the infotainment and don't necessarily need the Bose opton.

Statistically more reliable, cheaper to insure, tax, service, maintain. I own a 5-series BMW touring and VERY tempted to switch from the "premium" brand to Mazda's CX-5. I question what exactly I'm paying for with BMW as it gets older. Bits going wrong that shouldn't. They have rested on their laurels sadly and cheaped out.
