Renee we used bleach the same method and it worked for us we did all the wood and sliding before we painted our house. There is a power washer we rented that lets you pour the bleach in and the hose dilutes it as you spray. Rinse well even with what your using with the dogs walking around. I would keep the dogs inside until your finished and it dries.

Like so many others, I watch the things you recommend closely. So often they’re just what I’ve been looking for. And if they’re not, I feel sure I WILL be, soon! 😂
This one comes under the first heading. I’ve been looking at power washers, but don’t want to damage my concrete driveway and walks. They’re beginning to look pretty disreputable and this just may be the answer! Thanks so much!
Your steps look beautiful and while you had to scrub, it didn’t look too bad. Definitely a huge return on the amount of work involved. Mine will be even easier, since I think I can just use a broom to scrub!

@@Lucinda_Jackson you are so welcome! I didn’t have to scrub hard….but the steps did need the friction from the brush to release the yuck. If you are doing concrete or a flat surface, a broom will work perfectly!

Having lived in the Pacific Northwest you can't believe the green slimy alge that grows on everything. I use to buy that all the time. It is really amazing how well it works. Granted you have to use a little elbow grease but now I would use a battery operated scrub brush. Great job. You're hired.

You're a hard little worker. I'm so glad my husband does all the pool stuff. I don't have the arm strength anymore. We have the same exact Trex deck, and a pool, I know all too well what you are dealing with. My husband is against using a power washer because of the damage it can do, and how it makes your cement porous. Our neighbor used to love to use his power washer on his front porch, and on his siding, and just about everywhere. And he learned the hard way (and we learned by watching them ruin their cement). What I will say is - that looks like a miracle product. We just use a 1:1 ratio of pool chlorine and water. He puts it in one of those pump applicators like the ones you'd put weed killer in, then you pump and pump to get it pressurized. He first dampens everything down, then spritzes it with his applicator. Let's it sit for a little bit, then rinses it with a hose. Our deck and our cement comes out pristine. Yep, with a pool comes a lot of work. I used to help, but now that I'm older, I leave it to him. I call him my pool guy. LOL.

I’ve used this for a while now. There are some surfaces like rugs and fabric where the algae will just disappear as you spray it! You have to start with a dry surface. I made the mistake last year of thinking I knew how to use it and different go over the directions again and because everything was wet from a rain, it didn’t work very well. It dilutes it. This is the best stuff ever! Do make sure you don’t buy the 30 Second Spray and Walk Away unless you’re doing a fence or something and not patio furniture or decks patios, etc. Read the label. It doesn’t work the same and your pets can’t walk on it. They’re 2 different products.

It looks fantastic! My first thought was that I would have just put bleach in a Flomaster and sprayed it all down and then hosed it off with water. Then I read you should never use bleach on composite decking for a bunch of reasons. However, when you showed the back of your bottle, the main ingredient is bleach, aka sodium hypochlorite. I think the effectiveness of this product is the particular set of directions limiting the contact time and using a scrub brush to get mold out from below the surface. As long as you don't leave bleach on there for too long, it won't lighten the color. And the brush addresses a limitation of bleach, which is that it can't go below the surface by itself.

I have heard not to use a power washer, so we gave our really nice power washer to the son, who lives 400 miles away. I finally listened again, and heard "concrete" as one of the things it works on too.

This is caused by water building up, due to poor irrigation. I would tear those stairs apart, before you get a really bad mold problem. Because it's not real wood, it should not mold.
    There's a leak somewhere......hope it works out. 🙏🙏🙏🙏😊

The wood itself didn't mold. It just collected some buildup on the surface area and it easily came off.

I am pretty sure you can find a carberator for the power washer on amazon.

The main ingredient in 30 second cleaner is sodium hypochlorite(bleach).Pool shock is available at big box stores seasonally or pool supply stores.Pool shock is much cheaper around $4-5 a gallon and is concentrated 10-12%SH it must be diluted before use.

I think you should get a sander and resand the whole deck! Just to smooth it all out and then put the word varnish on it again! Or paint !
Edit: that stuff was awesome! Your summer/swimming spot is lovely!

Everyone on UA-cam has the best luck with this stuff. It didn't work AT ALL for me on my siding. Not a bit, I was crushed. Watched multiple regular people on UA-cam and lots of positive reviews. I got a refund from the company - I didn't really care about the money, I just wanted my siding clean!

If you’re washing the siding on your house…try JoMax House cleaner. It works great! Spray it on and wash it off. I use it every spring to clean our siding.

If you're using a scrub brush Dawn dish soap will work.

Great job, I found it doesn't work in 30 sec. It has to stay on in some cases 5 to 10 min to work. I have had to reapply it in some areas. 😊

Spray everything with “ Wet and Forget “ then go for a swim because the job is done….no scrubbing…no sweat just done.

Actually, vinegar usually does the trick for us. Maybe that would be a little more work but it is prolly more environmentally friendly.
