Billboards institution. Greek night Saturdays around 95/96, underage RNB early 90s Saturday afternoon, Hard Kandy Friday nights early 2000s. Ballers was Charltons nightclub in 80s. Showing my age haha. Also Timezone underneath SkyLounge which during early 90s was a heroin hotspot and made that whole corner near Hungry jacks a no go zone
I remember seeing ads for Hard Kandy on ABC when I was watching Rage, I was only about 12 at the time but I was like what the hell is that?! Fast forward a few years and I was right up the front of the dance floor til the lights came on!
Have to do a video on the hardstyle scene , bubble metro/ pharmacy phd 3D twister , that era was crazy/sketchy I loved it ! And mebourne bounce took its place when that scene died , and it definitely had an influence on Melbourne sound ! You could call it changing or the guard , maybe you could interview some of the djs/promoters. Keep the vids coming brother , fuck yeah Melbourne
Did you ever go to Twister in St.Kilda? Big Al on the door was a legend. Many tried to take him on but failed. Twister sat night Monkey Sunday nights. You must know Ugly. He ran Twister and Kittens in Elsternwick.
Bro! Ive watched a few of your vids now. I’m pretty much the same age as you and was in the scene at the same time… It’s crazzzzy remembering and reminiscing about my stories at these clubs… I keep thinking about the fact that we barely had internet and social media back then… Smoking inside venues! Completely different world… I miss those days 🤙🫶
How you do Billboard and not even mention Deluxe on Friday nights in late 90s that turned into the Melbourne rave institution Hard Kandy! The "rear" entrance was the main entrance every Fri Night for HK. Upstairs car park was always dodgy as. Better was across little burke in the underground one.
Ugly was one of the people that ran Thursday nights at Billboard during the late 80's and 90's before he want down to St Elmo's on King Street Rox was Sharkie's before that and it was all three levels, lvl 1 had karaoke and pool tables, lvl 2 had live band and pool tables and top floor had pure disco back in the early 90's Worked a lot of shows in both Billboard and Sharkie's back between 91 and 96, Oh damn I feel old now thinking it was that long ago.....
work at key club from back when it switch over from loft, just after ICON bar got shut down, entry is the door with the green curtain and then 2 floors of stairs, Sharky was bossman Charlie Charls came a few years later, Simon even worked a few shifts there lol
Nothing about the other end of Russel Street? Isabella, Santa Fe nightclub, Santa Fe Gold. Used to be run by Ross Kennedy, Peter Ivaniuk, Wayne Groves, etc.
@@Dannysrants Peter is OG part owner. Gave me my first job at The Tunnel, then my boss Andrew Hughes and i went over to Santa Fe Hotel to help run the Santa Fe nightclub. Live bands like Voodoo Surf Gods were playing downstairs, upstairs had a pool hall and dancefloor. Thurs, Fri and Sat nights were pumping. Then it shutdown to become Santa Fe Gold, the first one, the one that kicked it all off in Melbourne, before the Men's Gallery.
YOYO and The Key Club on Lonsdale used to be called The Loft, I did security there for 3 or 4 years. The same owners also owned The Long Room Collins Street and ICON bar on flinders lane which is now the famous restaurant CHIN CHIN. The Loft by FAR the roughest craziest place I worked, R&B on Fridays and house on Saturdays, and then kick on to WAH WAHS after the shift... fuck me did I see some shit haha...kinda miss those days.
