Buy a pair and you will be delighted with just the music. The automation works just good with all HomeKit support. I use Eve devices( Eve is real good unit + the setup is easy - no emails or any setup). If you have an Apple TV then the HomePod gets home app screen on your TV(like anyone on you front door you can see vedio on TV with eve camera). The movie experience is very good. Sound quality of this level and built quality there none at this price point. You can get better entertainment systems in the market but at not this price.
I am not sure about the bigger ones yet but the minis have some noticable latency and connectivity issues when I've tried using two as desktop speakers. They work fine sometimes but then the dialogue of the content I watch will be off a good amount from the video. I've had them randomly disconnect more often than they should.
Great explanation! It might look strange that Apple brought back the "revamped OG" if it seems similar on the surface, but you demystified the reasons well. I wonder if adding the temp/humidity hardware impacted audio hardware allowance. I'm sure the sound will be amazing, because even HomePod mini audio is superb - I got two HomePod 2 to pair, can't wait!
As someone who owns 7x Stereo Pairs of the OG, I am looking forward to this new iteration. We will have to see if Apple have improved the capacitors that would die and cause the white swirl of death, plus the OG Farting issue.

If you have a new-ish Mac, and a very solid wifi network then yes.
