    I performed this today for my region solo and ensemble contest as a junior in high school, and I received a superior rating and I'm headed to state contest in May! Thanks for such a perfect reference video! I tried to mimic your performance as much as I could :)

    Beautiful performance and sound quality, shawty camera work tbh. Sorry to rag on whoever filmed this but, it's just really shaky and out of focus.

    A very good choice of music for showing your skills, Eric. Sounds just great to me; it's often difficult to convey a good rendition of the sound on UA-cam clips, so well done, and all power to your elbows!

    Great! What microphones did you use to record and where did you place them?

    • @ericpercussion100
      @ericpercussion100  9 років тому

      Thanks! I used 2 Audio Technica 2035 microphones. They were placed about 3 feet above the instrument at equal distances. One of the best tools for manipulating the sound of the instrument is a multipressor. It is essentially a compressor but it allows you to compress specific frequencies rather than all of them. This tool allows me to possess more control over the amount of slap and sub bass. I may have went a little overboard on this recording. lol

    question. what grip do you suggest for this solo? burton, stevens, or traditional? I'm a sophomore in highschool and am intending to learn this solo probably this upcoming summer, and ive seen it done multiple ways. thanks! You played it spot on.

    Hey, awesome performance! I'm going to be playing this piece for my senior recital, what mallets were you using in this recording?

    • @ericpercussion100
      @ericpercussion100  9 років тому +2

      +chris Very cool! I am using various mallets from Nancy Zeltsman's line through Encore mallets.

    • @timlagunapercussion
      @timlagunapercussion 8 років тому +2

      +Eric Scherer The Zeltsman's are great! Encore really does a good job at bringing out the fundamental note in the bar and reducing unwanted overtones. Very clear. Good performance!

    Well played! I really like the piece. Is it possible to play it on a 4 and 1/3 octave marimba? Or is a bigger one required?

    • @nicholasbrewer2036
      @nicholasbrewer2036 8 років тому

      +Vince 77 yeah, if you buy the music its written for a 4.3 octave marimba and comes with an adapted part if you have a 5 octave.

  • @joaoborralho6511
    @joaoborralho6511 7 років тому

    Hey i'm working this piece and i have a question about that octave change in 4:17 after the choral part, in this performance Eric Scherer played an octave bellow what it's written.
    I´ve seen other players doing the same thing and i just wanted to know if it´s that an option or if it could be just on the edtition of the score...
    Any help will be very apreciated! :)

      Eric Scherer what made you switch grips? Just curious. I started with Stevens but have always wondered a little bit if a cross grip would have been better.

    This performance is great, and nearly flawless, but at 4:34 on the descending line you play 2 consecutive F#'s, but it's actually an F# followed by an A. Other than that, this is a fantastic performance.

      Actually the word "Marimba" is african... meaning something like "several notes" because you can play more than one at a time.
