      I was in the middle of restoring one of these when I saw your video. I’m currently stuck on winding the mainspring because none of my winders have the correct combination of small barrel and large arbor size. Could you please tell me what you used?

      @@petersmart2894 it’s the opposite way in to most springs so I don’t have left hand winders so I just hand wound it in.

    Watching this Ricoh Watch Restoration video struck a chord with me! My mom left me a beautiful gold Ricoh quartz watch that's currently not working, and seeing the meticulous process in this restoration gives me hope. It's inspiring to witness skilled hands breathe new life into timepieces with such sentimental value. Excited to explore the possibility of restoring my own family heirloom. Kudos to the restoration team for preserving these precious memories! ⌚✨ #TimepieceSentiments #WatchRestorationMagic

    Hiya Mike. I haven't gone anywhere I'm still watching and was still with you at the end of Part 2. I'm not sure what this watch was trying to achieve, was it trying to design out some of the issues with other designs. The Pallet Fork was a revelation and can see it was designed to be a lot more robust than other pallet forks, but still relied on the same interface points. (Still working out the 'WHY' on that one.) Nice to see your mistakes again and how you tracked down where the error occurred and what it was. I was in Failure Investigations for a number of years in the Aero industry. I have always been more intrested in finding the 'Root Cause' of a issue than passing off a good unit. your approach is good and methodical, excellent. Sorry, age does make one prattle on a bit. Black Leather Strap, defiantly. 👍

    So glad I follow you. I've been learning from your Seiko videos, and obtained a 6119 that needed parts. I purchased an advertised 6119 (Seiko dial displayed) and the case and movement was a Ricoh 610. It needed a ratchet wheel and rotor. The seller did a full refund , but said 'keep the watch'. I've purchased a donor Ricoh watch from India, It's on its way, and then.....? Your two videos of the restoration of the same movement were to be streamed by you. Watched them. Stayed up late. Loved them. All I need now is the donor. I'll never be in your league, but hey, you've introduced me into a great hobby. Good innit?

  • @gregleingang9409
    @gregleingang9409 9 місяців тому +1

    I'm hoping you get this comment as I know the issue with that auto wind ratchet wheel. I know the movement well. Ricoh used essentially the same movement from the late 1960s to the late 1980s. Small design improvements were made but most parts are interchangeable. However, the height of those two posts in the middle of the two wheels changed and the depth clearance of the top plate changed. So the piece you had likely was not original to that watch as the two posts are taller causing the wheels to bind up when you put the top plate on. Took me time and referencing multiple examples to figure it out. Also helpful to oil the top of those posts as that half circle shifts in place when the direction of the rotor changes. Hope this helps. Loved your video!!

    • @MyRetroWatches
      @MyRetroWatches  9 місяців тому

      Thank you. At least i diagnosed it in the end. I still wonder why the plate was blued? I assume you have never seen this either ?

    • @gregleingang9409
      @gregleingang9409 9 місяців тому

      @@MyRetroWatches Indeed I have never come across one that was blued like that. The half circle with the two wheels has to be free enough in its space to flip side to side/rotate laterally depending on which way the auto rotor is spinning. That allows one of those two little wheels to engage the auto rotor regardless of the rotors direction. When those rivet heads are big like that they rub or wedge against the top plate and the half circle piece won't flip side to side without binding. The early Ricohs I have don't have big rivet heads holding those two wheels in place. Rather they just have two posts and those two wheels can be removed. The lack of rivet heads creates the needed clearance. Somewhere along the way they added those taller rivets and must have slightly altered the underside of the top plate to accommodate the rivet heads. A person could perhaps file those rivet heads down if a replacement can't be found. That blue color is a mystery. Again wonderful video it was a pleasure watching!

  • @jozsefizsak
    @jozsefizsak 10 місяців тому

    I think all three of those Ricohs are terribly interesting and rather attractive watches. They're unusual looking and novel without being weird so I really like them. I actually guessed where the problem was simply because I was so uncomfortable about your choice not to lubricate the wheels. I just had a bad feeling about them. This is purely intuition since all I know about watch repair is what I've gleaned from YT videos! 😉

    Magnífico vídeo Mike, como todos, muchas gracias por compartir. Disculpa, pero mi inglés es pobre, deberás usar un traductor, supongo. Hace un par de años restauré un Ricoh R31. Me llamó mucho la atención la simplificación usada con las ruedas inversoras y, sobre todo, que no hay desconexión entre el remonte manual y el sistema de carga automático. No sé si lo has comentado en algún momento del vídeo pero, si te fijas, al girar el rotor con el dedo, también gira la corona. Eso añade más rozamientos al trabajo del rotor.
    Gracias de nuevo por tu trabajo.

    Good video, the watch turned out great, worth saving a vintage watch so it still exists, and getting a nice watch from it at the same time.
    Have you thought of trying a silver expanding metal strap, or a black mesh strap? My gradu-tint Ricoh came with an Allwyn (Indian made Seikos) bracelet on it, I think it looks good.

      Thanks . I don’t much care for expani- bands . I’d like to eventually find a Ricoh bracelet that would fit however it’s unusual in its 20mm lug width. All Ricoh bracelets I’ve seen are 18mm

    I think a thicker chunky meral strap would suit the watch better but only because it has a thicker/deeper case.

    Well played Mike, I was curious about this one, and you did the hard yards so we don't have to. Lovely result. My timegrapher ran by itself for around 5 min this morning, with no watch anywhere near it. Have you or anyone reading this ever seen that? Weird. Thanks again sir.😊

    Amazing vid Mike! Loved seeing all your little issues! Well done figuring out the main issue. On day wheels I’ve experienced the issue you did getting it off. I use 2 pieces of rodico opposite each other, this balances out the lifting equally.

    Your videos are great because you leave everything in, don't edit out mistakes etc. How did you polish the crystal, looks great, like the mesh strap??

    • @MyRetroWatches
      @MyRetroWatches  9 місяців тому

      Thank you. The crystal being acrylic is easy. I sanded it with 1000 grit to remove deep marks and then just used polywatch and cotton wool to bring it back to clear. 20 minutes tops.

    Ah, and I was going to say the green one...that's the doner...was my favorite! I had levels of definite anxiety as that stupid thing wouldn't wind. The troubleshooting is actually a great thing to master, but, not gonna lie, it does raise my blood pressure. 😂

    • @MyRetroWatches

      Yes the green one is cool however the dial although looks good in close up its quite poor. Thinking of reviewing all 3 on the other channel in September.

    Great video Mike. I enjoy the verity in movements you are showing. The black band would be my choice of the two. I just began working with a similar microscope and find it difficult to adjust to the poor depth of field. It certainly has helped me see that my cleaning system needs work. Looking forward to the Omega. Cheers!

      Good luck with your Ricoh. Many are found in India on eBay but be a little weary of those as some are franken watches made up of a mix of parts and movements.

    Meanwhile I went out side for a while, bought a nice 7x40 Bino, at the flea market, this afternoon, testing it, so far so good, it was only €12,50, saw a few late Perseïds, told the story of Perseus and Andromeda to a bunch of young lads, gave them my card, if they want to watch the sky they can e-mail me, to ask if I' ll be out side in the evening, I usually have a fair idea if I will, in the morning. Had a look at Saturn and the Double cluster :)

    Well it's a big thumbs up from me. I love the look of this one. The crystal is great (and I think we need to see facets return too), I love the colour of the dial, and even the standalone quickset pusher adds a bit of mystique (maybe?). I've almost pulled the trigger on a few that've passed by my eBay feed. Now I've got videos to refer to if I find a spares and repairs job! Well done on figuring out the reversing wheels, and thanks for another pair of great videos.
