    When you see how an artist uses a pen you used at school to take notes in creative ways
    honestly I liked this pen but I never thought it could be used for art

    I used this pen for cross hatching. It instantly became one of my favorites along with the pocket brush pen. They're my favourite duo.

    "Watersoluble watercolor sketching". I used to call it "Fake watercolor". I wanted to do watercolor, but I don't have the pens that don't bleed, so I just tried to use the bleeding to my favor. Had no idea this was actually a thing. :O

      I did the same thing! I called it something like "water pen stuff". I used G2 gel pens and they're beautifully vibrant when painted as ink.
      Oh, I also didn't have brushes, so I smudged the water with my hands.

    Fantastic review! I will pick up a box of these. I look forward to refilling one of them with waterproof ink as well. I have recently discovered your UA-cam and it is now one of my favorite channels!

    I got the Tradio Stylo the other day after really liking how it felt while sampling in the store. It's an odd one - the plastic gives the nib very consistent low friction, so even though it has limits in what the result looks like, inking over a pencil sketch has a fast, easy feel to it that you don't find in most other inking tools. The ink wash is a bonus feature on top of that.

    • @JH-pe3ro
      @JH-pe3ro 8 місяців тому

      After some experimenting I believe it's the case that if you let it sit for about a week, Stylo Sketch ink will stop moving when wet; it still moves but is much more resistant to solubility after 24 hours, and that seems to become increasingly true with more time. So it can be used both as a permanent and a wash, if you're patient.

    I used to have a pilot pen similar to the Pentel Stylo. However it had a leaky back. I like using it when I want to use a royal blue ink.

    Happened to pick one of these up a month ago at Blick and do this exact water wash method. I use a waterbrush, but also a regular watercolor brush with a water cup can give you more control, use just a tiny amount of dampness which is very hard to get with a waterbrush. As you say this is a very neutral to cool black. Another nice pen for this method is the Copic fountain pen (which you looked at a couple years ago but not for water wash method), though it is called black it is not really at all, more of a sepia, which is nice and warm if you want a sepia tone drawing. It is interesting as you found that once you wash it with a water brush, it then dries to a more permanent waterproof quality. Good because you can then lay down more of the same pen and not have it bleed. Also the green Sailor fude pen is very very water soluble with the stock ink that comes with it. Probably more completely water soluble that the Stylo, you can easily dissolve the ink line completely. Fun.

    Thank you for the information and for the link. I’m not sure to like the contrast between the light grey and the black of the brush pen, perhaps find a grey ink or put some water in a waterbrush of black ink ? 😉

    I've never seen a nib like that. Almost makes one think it's for use in a lab environment. It's cool looking. Thanks for sharing this very interesting pen. 👍😀
    I wonder if one uses two colors of the stylo pen, can they be blended and layered?

    Thanks Teoh for the excellent video...this is the pen and ink I’ve been looking for!...as it apparently allows soluble use ...and when fully dried it’s permanent !...this is great as I do ink and Watercolour wash sketching and I’ve been trying to find an ink that can be both soluble and permanent. One question if I may ..could you tell me what make / model the black brush pen you used is? Would love to get one also ...many thanks again Geoff

    I wish I hadn't tossed my Stylo now! Maybe... It was one of my first experiments, and I didn't like it much. Or should I say it didn't impress me because it didn't draw for me! Now I use fountain pens and have learned more? Kind of like a more versatile Varsity or V-2, or whatever it's named outside the US. Thanks as always, ...N

    I got one in Japantown in San Francisco and I don’t know if the Pula Man version has different colors on the cap but my is gray on the cap but the ink is black sooo that was confusing. Luckily they have paper to test the pens.

    I probably saw this pen on display at Michaels a while back. Not that hard to find Pentel's pens/markers here in the states.
    Checking Michaels right now, they got it for $17 but if you got a 40%/50% Off coupon, it helps.

    I appreciate the video and am joyful about the sketch. I have one question. Is there a necessary/preferred orientation in drawing with this pen? I observe the black "grip" surrounding the white triangular "tip" is not symmetrical. Does this mean anything?

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  4 роки тому

      That black grip is just to hold the white felt tip

    Would it be possible to set up playlists by brand for your reviews? It would make it far easier to find a specific review. As you are also a fountain pen artist, I trust your opinion on them more than most other reviews, so I often find myself digging thru long lists of videos in the hope that you have a review on some pen.

    So if the ink does not reactivate a second time, does that mean you could come back in with watercolours and have the paint and ink not mix and become muddy?

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  4 роки тому

      It should work. But you have to make sure the first time, you have painted over all the ink.

    • @EPeltzer
      @EPeltzer 4 роки тому +1

      @@teohyc Yes, the ink you have not yet washed with water will quickly dissolve with the watercolor wash. I think it might be good to have one completely waterproof pen for hard lines, like a Pigma, and then a water soluble pen like the Stylo added where you want shading. That is more control, and also can then do watercolor on top of the grisaille shading. OR you could just do shading first and watercolor, add the final hard lines on top with the Stylo.
