I ran flex conduit to each room and terminated them in a recessed wall cavity where the network hard drive, cable router, home router, etc. are located. The recessed area itself has a large conduit running to where utilities enter the house. The recess also has a dedicated electrical line that I plan to attach to a battery backup some day -- but I already have backup on the main computer (mine). You may not need all of this, but it's worth thinking about before you cover the walls up. My recessed area actually has a kitchen cabinet that opens up (at the wall) to access it. We have zero extra space so it was kinda necessary. Keep up the good work!
I love how intently your dog watches your work; it's clearly evident during the time-lapse portions where his head barely moves! You're nearly there, thanks for the detailed walkthrough.
You will feel so much better after you pass the inspection, that tension will fade away. Love that dog ..... waiting to meet the new one , .....Thank you for the update! :)
I totally agree with the other post to put the outside spot lights on a switch. With motion sensor lights you may want them to stay on for doing a task outside. By turning the switch off for 4 to 5 seconds and back on, will turn them on solid. Then to go back to motion mode, turn the switch off then back on will no delay time will put it in motion mode. FYI, with 2 separate switches to turn a certain set of lights on & off is 3 way, to have 3 or more switches in different locations to turn the same set of lights on & off is called 4 way. All is looking good.
I have been watching you build your home for some time now. I enjoy watching you work so hard, putting time and patience to create something magnificent. Thanks for sharing and I cant wait to see you complete your home. Peace and Love, -Jamie
For the life of me I can’t figure out why as of this morning there are 7 dislikes on this video.... it all Looks Great. I deal with horrible DIY’ers and Homeowners projects everyday. Every time I say I’ve seen it all (OR) the worst possible remod ever somebody proves me wrong. So with as Great of a job as you are doing all I can figure is the dislikes the video is getting is a bunch of really jealous jerks who wouldn’t know good work if it bit em’ in the butt or people who aren’t willing to work hard to have something they could be Thankful to have, & Proud to have built themselves. God Bless and keep up the Great job.
Flood lights on the corners of the house, lights and/or fans under the porch roof, a light for the electrical box shed, over hang outlet boxes if you do Christmas lights, and and exterior outlet box at each corner plus center front and back. Just a thought. Looking good. Progress is being made.
Yes to the motion sensor lights! I had a German Short haired that my brother breed. She was one of the best dogs I ever had. But be forewarned they are stubborn dogs. But very trainable if you put the time into it.
Just a suggestion...in your main panel box, use the outer insulation of the 12 or 14/2 (pieces about 3" long) to mark what wires go where. IE Kitchen Lgts, Bdrm Lgts, Refrig....etc. Use these as sleeves, and slide the pieces of this insulation on the wires, i the panel. Then write on the sleeves where they go. I'm sure your marking as you go along, but after 35 years of wiring I've found if your using adhesive numbers they will dry out and fall off, whereas the sleeves will stay forever. And because there on the inside of the panel only you will know they are there. It makes chasing circuits soo much easier to find when your old and gray , like me, or when you've passed this amazing home on to your children. Oh BTW a fine line sharpee works best. All the best to you and your family
Heath.....I am really getting excited for you! When drywall starts going up, the house really starts taking shape. Its looking good! It's best to put the motion lights on a switch because most of the new LED's require it. Also, I didn't see a whip for a range vent or dishwasher...
You mentioned a few times that your back is sore, well here is a simple remedy that works. Stand back to a wall with your heels touching the same wall. Put your right foot on a chair and push down on your foot lightly for 15 seconds then do the same with left foot. You will be surprised at the relief. It works.
Well done! Just about done with electricity! 1 more big step closer. BTW I would put motion sensors on a switch ,because if the lights keep being triggered by wildlife to an annoying degree, you can always turn them off easily. If it disturbs you in the middle of the night that is not the time to have to sort out electric wiring!
I might have missed or forgotten it through all of these videos but, I don't recall seeing you run wire for outdoor outlets around your house. They are very helpful some times. I really enjoy watching the videos and wish I had your energy.
Everything on a switch. Floodlights under the overhang on each corner of the house on motion detectors. This is easy while walls are open. If you want to run tv & computer wires, maybe even speaker wires. Add it now or you will be pissed off later you didn’t. Just thinking out loud. Looking Great 👍 Vinny 🇺🇸
Mount a 10W and a 50W LED floodlight next to each others. You just need three wires, two live on separate switches and common return. Having a 10W on several sides at night is good, and then the ability to turn on the 50W if you need light to work, or if something goes bump in the night.
Wiring at main breaker box looks fine to me.... The only thing i would have suggested to add there are protective metal plates inset flush on the ends of 2×8's to protect wires from nails accidentally piercing through your lines at the interior wall side.....
I am always amazed at how focused you are, great job and all by yourself it is a testament to how much you love your family you are definitely blessed.. God's speed...and continued success. Alan Viner
Well that's nice. Once you have your trees as an orchard, you could sell fruit and veggies to the hunters. Good suggestions from your friend, use them. Also those motion sensor lights are as good as a property line marker. But you will attract the lost and hurt. Make sure you have a well supplied first aid kit.
I remember building my first home, the termination of the electrical plugs and switches was the biggest task that I hated. So repetitive and just boring. Looking good brother. I'm a few days behind on videos. Been busy packing our homestead getting ready for our big move.
in texas we use purple paint. it lets hunters and anyone else wondering around know that they are about to enter private property and don't trespass. We just go to the side that butts up against public property and paint each tree down the property line with a large dot.
Quick suggestion on putting outlets on the outside of the house if you don't put them beside the doors put one on every corner of the house I did that at the cottage except for one corner and it seems like that is the one corner that I always need power for some random thing
..put up a few ''no hunting or trespassing'' signs, most good hunters obey them.a few do make honest mistakes about where they are hunting..good luck..
Hahaha... Yes, we have to be made of iron for living here in the land of cold butts :) It's fantastic to sit here and see someone building a house on the other side of the world, and feel like it's next door neighbor... We have some differences in how we build, but most of it are similar.
just found your channel a few days ago really liking the house build. i plan on doing the same thing getting out of the area i live in and getting into some acreage and building a nice house out with area between neighbors just like you. keep it solar and run everything mostly off grid
I haven't heard you mention exterior outlets......now would also be the ideal time to rough in conduitsfor future power for any outbuildings you may add.....shed....power for a deck.....who knows.....sure beats cutting into the drywall and patching it up.
Good idea for Ruger, try checking the local pound's website. All dogs are pack animals, being alone too long can make then anxious and depressed. grandpa used to take a tennis ball along and wave it in front of a dog, if they tracked it he felt they were trainable. Some dogs are, some aren't. Have cedar give you a back rub with some tiger balm, it will really help so you don't wake up tomorrow stiff as a board. Your backs carrying a heavy load all day, once it goes out it will never be the same. The last car accident I was in(not my fault) took 6 months of core exorcises, chiropractor visits and massages before I could bend over and pick up a pencil without it going out on me. when your 6'2, 270 pounds Nobody is going to pull over to help you change a tire. IMHE Glad your wiring is done. at this rate, you should be done/move-in ready by mid-summer. Will the kids have to change schools for the fall?Or can they stay at their current schools?
Put the motion sensors on switches. Switches allow you to turn them off and on a number of times that will keep them on for any time you find it necessary.(turn them into regular lights temporarily.) Its a pain to have to stop what you are doing to wave at the light to finish up your evening project.
We have been using solar motion sensitive LED lights and they have been great now for 2 to 3 years and no problems. the 1100 to 1300 lumens are great and really light it up when something comes by, with no added cost on the hydro bill and relatively inexpensive. Usually between $45 to $50 Canadian which would convert to $25 to $30 US. Give them a look you might be pleasantly surprised one company is called SunTek but there are many.
I posted on one of your previous vids, but I know you can't read them all...hope you get this one though; Stick to 3 wires per hole. Fill the holes to the 2nd floor & attic with fire foam. (you want the wires to be in the middle of the foam, not pushed to one side). This might help you too; The International Residential Code limits the size of bored holes in lumber. If the lumber is a bearing or exterior stud the largest hole allowed is 25%. In a non-bearing interior stud, 40% is allowed. (Measurements are actual, not trade dimensions. i.e. a 2x4 is 1.5 by 3.5 inches). A ceiling joist or floor joist allows a hole of 33% of the size of the lumber, but holes cannot be bored within 2 inches of the top or bottom. On a stud, holes cannot be bored within 5/8 of an inch from the edge, but Article 300.4 of the NEC requires holes bored within 1-1/4 inch from the edge to have nailer plates
Although dimensional lumber and its availability have made building much easier. You have built the equivalent of an entire ranch. By yourself. I think you must have iron nuts. All this compared to the old timers 150 years ago. IRON SIR.
Put the motion sensors on a switch also. When the wind blows hard it makes the motion sensors stay on all night and it is something I want to turn off.
yes but if it starts going off and on off and on while your sitting in your house you will grow tired of it and want to flip it off until the wind storm is over.
Are you keeping records of the costs? I know every build is different but it would be helpfull to have a ballpark figure on the costs of each system & the man hours put into the installations.
Take care of your back. Get as much help as you can. A one man operation is impressive but you could find yourself unable to work if you don't get enough help. Godspeed.
Save yourself a little bit of headache and take a hole saw and recess the outside pancake box back to the wall decking so the front of the pancake is flush with the outside siding. You can do the same with the outside outlets, I generally find a single gang box with the nails at the back of the box, cut a hole next to a stud and face the box outside and flush the front of the box to the outside siding, at least here a heavy duty cord in place cover is required on the outlets outside, one in front and one in back of the house, or you can use a weather proof single gang bell box and just screw it to the siding, but then the box and cover protrude out a ways after installation. Probably wouldn't hurt to nail plate the areas close to the panel where the wires go through the studs, not required per code if you have your 1-1/4" from the front face of the stud, but a nice safety and peace of mind just to avoid drywall screws, I occasionally do the same in the kitchen areas where the kitchen cabinets are screwed to the walls.
Three way /four way switch 101: Start of circuit 2 conductor from power source/circuit breaker - 3 way switch#1 - 3 conductor traveler to any # of 4 way switches -3 conductor traveler to 3 way switch #2 - 2 conductor to lights/load!
Concerning the clusters of wires at the JB....Rather than undoing and rerunning the wiring into new holes at the breaker box, can't you just slip a temporary thin sleeve of sheet metal over the existing cluster in the hole, and safely drill another smaller hole touching the top and/or bottom of the original hole, and slip a few wires into the new holes??? Basically elongating and enlarging the original hole... ...just a thought.
I understand he's a plumber by trade and doesn't like electrical.. But looking at the panel wall. With a schematic drawn up in advance. Could have given a neater job.. Conductors running Vertical then horizonal then vertical into the side of the panel you've designated for bresker position.. Jobs look neater. Inspectors like neat.. Finding problems is easier
They will never have cable in such a remote area and Internet will have to be Satellite.. Wireless routers have replaced hard wire cable and Internet. They most likely will never be connected to the grid either.
your doing a great job and I hate to complain but I would not like to pay for the wire being used .I watched you waist about 40 ft of wire on that one part that you could have easily pulled back to the roll in the box and cut it there saving at least 3 ft of wire every time you made a run, that dosen't sound like much but over the electrical build it all adds up and wire is not cheap if you throw it away. this might be also realized in all of the different jobs on the complete house build especialy that you are doing it yourself . other than that good job
Turkey season is the most dangerous if Hunter orange is not required... Hunters have every right to hunt your land if not posted. If you post your land it's off limits without written permission. Big problems with buying new land is hunters may have been coming for years when no humans were living there... so while I too am a hunter, I post my land . That way people have to come to you face to face and ask permission...and you can tell them about your dog and kids and want knowledge of when they will be in their hunting spot. If your wood stove is going to primary heat source will you need cold air and heat vents in bedrooms for when doors are shut. ? heat will want to rush up the stairs to the hall, but when doors are shut it could get cold?
I know you are under pressure but please your roof tin MUST be on 2" X 2" batons air movement under the tin otherwise your home can go on fire this is so IMPORTANT sorry ,Paul Djerassi.
That's a ton of wire for such a tiny house......a bit of overkill I think. You say in your title passed first inspection????? Doesn't sound like you had one yet?
This is my first video I watched @redpoppyranch and met Ruger
You will be missed Ruger

thank you for the longer video

You are getting so close...great work!
Praying your inspection goes well :)
Nice to see Ruger decided to go back to work :-)
You Sir, are a very talented , meticulous man. Wish you had worked in the Orlando, Fl area before I retired!

I write on the cable further from the end. It helps when you get muddled after stripping the sheath during second fix 🙈

Looking good Heath, you must be getting tired doing it all by yourself !
Add at least one outlet on the outside of the house -- it will save running an extension cord out a window when you need to work outside. Good job.
Super job bud !!!

Lol... I'll mention this to the wife!
May want to take some pics of your layout especially at the junction box before you enclose everything, it will help later on. Good job so far dude.
Put the motion sensors on a switch also. When the wind blows hard it makes the motion sensors stay on all night and it is something I want to turn off.
shartne
...isn't it nighttime when you'd need them the most....?
Sometimes better to be without the light at all, than to have it turning off and on, mostly on, all night...
Yeah have that happen and it is very annoying for it to go off and on all night long then you just want to turn it off.
yes but if it starts going off and on off and on while your sitting in your house you will grow tired of it and want to flip it off until the wind storm is over.
Are you keeping records of the costs? I know every build is different but it would be helpfull to have a ballpark figure on the costs of each system & the man hours put into the installations.
I know about how much I have total but I have not broken it down into categories.
Take care of your back. Get as much help as you can. A one man operation is impressive but you could find yourself unable to work if you don't get enough help. Godspeed.

Sorry to hear about your dog.
CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE REST OF YOUR FAMILY ARN''T HELPING YOU WAY MORE THAN THEY DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?? MICK FROM UK.
Just curious, you mentioned you are in south eastern Idaho. I went to school in Preston, Grace, Soda Springs. Anywhere around there?
Yes.
Three way /four way switch 101: Start of circuit 2 conductor from power source/circuit breaker - 3 way switch#1 - 3 conductor traveler to any # of 4 way switches -3 conductor traveler to 3 way switch #2 - 2 conductor to lights/load!
And when you run out of 3 conductor Romex cable you can always run 2 each 2 conductor Romex cables (and wind up with an extra wire)!
Concerning the clusters of wires at the JB....Rather than undoing and rerunning the wiring into new holes at the breaker box, can't you just slip a temporary thin sleeve of sheet metal over the existing cluster in the hole,
and safely drill another smaller hole touching the top and/or bottom of the original hole, and slip a few wires into the new holes???
Basically elongating and enlarging the original hole...
...just a thought.
Thats a possibility.
Very curious about how the excavator is doing. Possible update?
This week. I'm about to move it up on the hill and start working on it.
Good luck with the electrical inspection. Hope your going to tidy up your work site before you call him.
Don't forget to make a "Gallagher mallet", (watermelon smasher), with some of that maple! :)
Maybe make one for potatoes...
And a waffle one for meat!
Put up some GFIs for Christmas lights!
We live in Arkansas. Our Pharmacist goes to Idaho to hunt on public lands. Now I know why xD
Do not forget out side receiptals
Why did you not put the main box inside? Just now noticed it.
There will be a utility room around it soon. It will be inside.
That beautiful dog needs a bath! :)
I would get some trail cams

I have a question..... Do Intruders/weirdo get a warning shot? 🤔 I would have your motion on switches it would be nice to have the option
You should run some cable for TV and Cat5 cable for hardwire internet.
A little tip on running Cat5 for internet. NO 90 degree bends, and keep it away from the electrical wires as much as possible.
They will never have cable in such a remote area and Internet will have to be Satellite.. Wireless routers have replaced hard wire cable and Internet. They most likely will never be connected to the grid either.
How is it that you have daylight at 1030 pm?
Summer and daylight savings...
no mudroom?
What is going on with the case excavator
bout to fire it up...

your doing a great job and I hate to complain but I would not like to pay for the wire being used .I watched you waist about 40 ft of wire on that one part that you could have easily pulled back to the roll in the box and cut it there saving at least 3 ft of wire every time you made a run, that dosen't sound like much but over the electrical build it all adds up and wire is not cheap if you throw it away. this might be also realized in all of the different jobs on the complete house build especialy that you are doing it yourself . other than that good job
You should come over to my house I have two roses inside outside wiring
Have you figured how much electricity you are going to have to make to power everything?
We have a 7k solar system.
I was gonna build a house, my wife did"nt let me . She found out what all it takes and said I was crazy at 65 yrs old.
When people tell me I'm crazy that pretty much tells me I'm on the right track...
No matter how many switches you place between the first and the last the system is still called a 3 way .
Unfortunate you couldn't install a half bath under the stairs. Would've been very convenient.
Wow how much coffee do you drink you seem really wired no pun intended. Ok yeah Pun intended!
I know you are under pressure but please your roof tin MUST be on 2" X 2" batons air movement under the tin otherwise your home can go on fire this is so IMPORTANT sorry ,Paul Djerassi.
wow that song had a ripoff of led zeppelin riffs in it
I'm late as usual, but I heard it too.
That's a ton of wire for such a tiny house......a bit of overkill I think. You say in your title passed first inspection????? Doesn't sound like you had one yet?
Building inspectors can be jerks, just saying.
"permit to hunt"... tsja... one could ask:
From who did Trump c.s. get their "permit to hunt" in Syria... (and where not...)
