- Alys Tomlinson is a freelance photographer whose work explores the relationship between people and place, themes of environment, belonging and identity. Using large-format film processing, Alys’ long-term, research-based projects help her build relationships and truly understand the people that she documents.
Alys’ current project has taken her to Naples, where she is exploring the Neapolitan tradition of “La smorfia”; the art form that assigns numbers to different components of dreams. It is a tradition that can heavily influence the daily lives of the people of Naples. Alys discusses the project and how she interacts with the people she photographs.
Whether used for stills photography or filmmaking, a camera offers the user a unique opportunity to tell a story. What a amazing video Alys, love your technical photography with a beautiful camera. And seeing you use a light meter shows you are very good at your craft. Sony A7S III, Sony GM Primes, LUTs (Buttery LUTs). Hope this helps!
I watched a few more times! I have used LF, in the past. Linhof Color 4x5, 135mm lens, 4x5 Enlarger, the whole catastrophe! It's a very expensive route! I was a Pro. My opinion is a big NO! I used 35mm, slow film, tripod and loved natural light,! Work slowly. Make your own wet prints! Use short lengths. Or cut from main roll in camera.
I used Leica-M and 50/135mm or Pentax SLR and similar lenses.8x10" prints can be as perfect as 4x5.
