@@Venus.Y but she doesn’t generalize men. She doesn’t just care about women and women’s issues. She literally wrote a song for men about how women hurt men too. How they are hurt too. She has changed and evolved over time. Electrica Heart was almost 10 years ago. You can’t expect an artist to do the same thing over and over again. That’s just boring. I don’t know who you listen to but I really don’t hear many people make music about the topics Marina does. Also, she hasn’t waited this long to make a feminist anthem. Remember the song “Girls” from her very first album. It basically was a feminist anthem. It was about the expectations society has for women and how she didn’t want to follow them. There are many other songs she had written before now that were about similar things. Marina has opinions she wants to voice. She doesn’t want to be just an average pop star singing about partying in the club or how she just fell in love. Just because she wrote a few songs about her break ups and her past relationships doesn’t mean she hates men. Man’s World wasn’t about setting aside the good things men have done. Its lyrics criticize history's oppressive treatment of women and minority groups, and Marina states that she no longer wishes to live in a world led by men. That doesn’t mean that she doesn’t care about men. It just means that she doesn’t think men should be all high and mighty and better than women. She isn’t ever going to go back to Electrica Heart. She said in an interview that she killed Electrica Heart with sleeping pills. Electrica Heart was meant to represent what Marina wanted to be at that point of her life. She isn’t at that point of her life anymore. Just because she talks about mature and important topics now, doesn’t mean she is a political puppet. Who would she even be a puppet for? I don’t think the left is paying Marina off to make this music. It is what she wants to do. Also stop spamming your opinions under every comment and then never responding. It makes you look like either a troll or just desperate
@@Venus.Y you need to stfu. Name me one artist that’s doing what Marina is doing? None. These are serious and important topics that need to be discussed and she’s doing it while being true to herself, stating her opinion while still having the classic Marina sounds and a lot of other things implemented in the lyrics from personal perspectives to social perspectives. This isn’t anything new for Marina, capitalism and feminism have always been big topics on her music. The woman is 35 years old and clearly she loves her art and knows what she wants to do with it, the last thing on her mind is trying to appeal the crowd. She’s always been political from the 1st album she released to this one, if you can’t see that you’re blind/deaf. Also if the message behind this album bothers you, you’re part of the problem
All music is political, a persons political consciousness shines through their words. Saying nothing at all is an indicator you are content with the Status quo.
I'm just so happy for her. Seen Marina's trajectory as an artist and a person through the years is just such a pleasure. She's an amazing person and this album/era is the cherry on top of all
@@symmingly2073 Definitely would love to hear your thoughts on the rest of her discography! She’s had an incredible journey and shedding her past self that’s apparent in “Goodbye.”
I always felt like the wallflower/flytrap metaphor is saying "Why choose to be a harmless thing that is pretty to look at and delicate, when you can be something just as beautiful but that can and will prey upon others or defend itself." I take it as like why choose to fit the ideal of femininity to satisfy others instead of being who you are and owning yourself regardless of the ideal.
My favorite Marina album is Electra Heart. It's from 2012. She created a character to represent 4 archetypes (american housewife, primadonna, idle teen and homewrecker), it's lyrically and musically amazing. I would love to hear you react to that.
listening to the second half of this album right after L+F really hits hard imo, having gone from songs like Superstar, Believe in Love and Soft to be Strong, to Pandora's box, I Love You But I Love Me More and Flowers was heartbreaking when I first listened to all of her albums in order :'/
I’d say Family Jewels as her debut album is a must listen as well as Electra Heart and Froot all incredible albums. Love & Fear is considered her weakest album but there is some good stuff there.
Marina is an wonderful lyricist, as well as a wonderful singer, and she is able to bring us into her world with her clever songwriting by showing us that she is just like us.

This album hits in many different places, personally i have grown listening to her stuff and i enjoy all her albums, she puts a lot of thought on it when discussing sensitive topics, her first two albums are a lot darker than the others but they are so freaking good, you should check all them out ♥ love♥
I love the reaction as always! no hate! I just feel like if we are benifiting from any of the systems addressed in this album, a certain responsibility falls upon us to address these corrupt systems. I feel we need to think outside of ourselves and the perks we gain by the oppression of others. who's voice is going to be heard if not ours? for me, anything less feels like a betrayal to the people whose subjugation crafts these benefits.
Previously I had quite a lukewarm feeling about that album (like I had with "Love + Fear"), in the perspective of comparing it to "Froot" which is a masterpiece, but I came around to it and now I think it's a strong album (And "Love + Fear", though more chilling, is great too, as if Marina could ever release a bad album, I mean, c'mon!). If you haven't done it yet, you should listen to "Happy Loner" (which is featured in the deluxe version), just gorgeous...
I love this album her 2nd best in my opinion after Electra heart. I don’t mind that she’s political, there’s plenty love/party song artists out there so it’s refreshing to listen to someone with a diff message.
It's all the better for the social commentary! It's all stuff that isn't brought up enough, especially in pop music, and I'm glad it's Marina bringing it up and I love her and adore her for it. The world needs more voices like her!
I really like it. I get what you are saying about it not being as catchy. There's more meaning to her songs this time and I think in order to do that she made her songs less formulaic, which in turn has made the songs less catchy at first. However, the more you listen the better and catchier each song becomes. You really understand what she did to achieve that goal. I love it. You should definitely give froot a listen then electra heart.
We need a reaction to ALL OF THEM! Family Jewels (most theatrical one) Electra Heart (my absolute fave and the one who made me know about Marina) Froot (A jewel, not my favourite tho) Love + Fear (I DID love this one. However it’s the more poppy one... with Marina’s touch anyway) I hope you give each one of them a chance, they all are great art pieces. Loved your reaction. Suscribed
New America is a very deep song, calls out the police, the way the CIA coups other countries, starts wars over oil and other resources and how it's built on stolen land. Best song on the album imo
If you want catchy pop I think you’ll like Electra Heart and then FROOT BUT her first album THE FANILY JEWELS is similar in style to this album. It’s really amazing
I kind of disagree on your statement on the 3rd song. The mens world one. I don't see it as political at all. As she is not talking about political parties or political opinions I see it as social issue but not socialist. Socialism is a pollitical term, true. But caring about what kind of society we live in and what we value is a personal thing. Hope you know what I mean. Going on now. Additional thought on the America track. America has the biggest potential to be a place where tolerance and social equality can grow because of the amount of creativity and ideas it has but it seems to be only for the companies and not for the people. So it is like: Be the best version of America you can be. Otherwise totally agree with what you said. Looking out from the inside was scary the last few years. Unite fellow humans, who happen to live within the boarders of the United States, don't let the capital devide you. Oh, you so right (imO) about the lot of thinking people did during lookdown. I was all frustrated before the lockdown but it really gave me time to think about what is important. Like sharing emotions with trusted people. Spreading happiness and joy instead of always complaining about unimportant stuff. Going on Not much more to say. The first song is in my playlist since I first heard it.
If you’re looking for catchier/more pop sounding songs, I think you’d LOVE her second album ‘Electra Heart’!!! 💓 She worked with people who have produced for Katy Perry, Rihanna, etc. on that one!
Love her music she’s one of my favorite underrated artist. I love that she’s different and each song has a message. A lot of which I kind of get. She has so many bops.
Love your reaction to this album, Luscent! Since you are appreciating the songwriting as well, I can only agree with the other diamonds, that you might appreciate all the albums. Earlier on she of course is not as political, but she knows how to tell great stories. Disagree on the opinion that Love+Fear is not as good. The songwriting on almost all of the tracks is still A+ in my opinion. I can understand, that a lot of people do not like it as much, because the production is for some of the fans maybe a bit too clean, but I love it nonetheless. PS: Also her accoustic versions are stunning to me. She did a lot of accoustics especially for her earlier works.
She's always had a large dose of political and social commentary going on in her lyrics. She's far too intelligent to write exclusively about shallow stuff. This is her best record since "The Family Jewels". Strong throughout, much more organic. Love it.
Heyo! All her albums are great but incredibly different. Melody wise, her debut comes closest to this. Her second album "electra heart" is a concept album about a Hollywood character. It is very 2010- katy perry ish in production style. Her third album "froot" is in most people her best album. Her fourth "Love+Fear" is her most pop album and it was after a 4 year hiatus. Some of her best individual songs like "orange trees" and "enjoy your life" are on their but it is a little long with 16 tracks. Enjoy discovering her!
It’s a great album! I think the unique and almost kooky sound she has to her melodies and instrumentals make a lot more sense when you look at them in the context of her evolution from her debut album to the present

All of the albums are worth while - A lot of people will leave Love+Fear off, but it holds a special place for me. I also think that it is more contemporary where some of the beats on The Family Jewels and Electra Heart are of their time - still fantastic albums but a number of reactors have struggled to appreciate because it's been 9/10+ years.
I recommed you to listen to her earlier album "froot" I think Quite retro(or funk idk how to describe..) but unique and whole album tracks are related so well! I do love her all albums but if someone asks me to choose only one album, i would tell "froot"
Ye had some very good responses to these songs, your input has helped me understand them more than I already did so cheers!😁It’s half an album I really respect/admire her for doin and half an album I really love that connected with me. I’m a massive Marina fan since day dot, I’d say ye should listen to ‘Froot’ it’s a very personal album and my favourite then ‘The Family Jewels’ which I feel her new album almost pays homage to for its bouncy/stylistic production nature and also our first introduction to an artist with some very valid opinions, then after that ‘Electra Heart’ which is her most poppiest effort but still very Marina then ‘Love + Fear’ which I felt lost some of her charm musically (although ‘Handmade Heaven’ is a Marina-to-the-core tune and my favourite off the album because it paints such colourful mental imagery with her wonderful lyrics which I relate to) but still had her wit and perspective to make it unmistakably Marina, it was a real welcome back after a long hiatus considerin’ to leave the music bizz! Anyway look forward to catchin’ your reactions to Marina in the future, she is an incredible artist!👍

Going from Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land to Electra Heart seems odd, it’s a big jump. I feel like going to Love + Fear then to FROOT and all the way down makes more sense. L+F is also the most lyrically similar to ADIAML.

At first listen, the tunes were catchy and fun, as well as emotionally moving, but it really makes you wonder, how much of this woke pandering, and how much of this is really her opinion? Electra heart will always be better because it was her honest opinion, but here, if she is doing this to appease the crowd, then she has become the one thing she sought to destroy. Being fake and a persona defeats the purpose of the originality she used to have. All celebrities nowadays sing the same tune, and she fits right in. Honestly she doesn't seem like the type to generalise men to be all bad, and throw away all common sense in favour of some woke opinions so far removed from real life. Ask yourself, if she always held such opinions, why did she wait so long to write a feminist anthem. I think it's more like, her fans will like this since they're all liberal and her music seems to attract this kind of people.
Mature awareness but it seems too woke for me, the part about feminine and mans man's world being bad which is not true...men have invented many things we use nowadays you can't just cast it aside because suddenly in the 21st century the past is irrelevant, when it isn't. And she acts like a total victim and claims all men do is hurt and oppress women which is not true. I understand that her breakup may have played a part in shaping her generalisations about men but still it isn't justified.
Part of me wonders how different would her comeback be if she was allowed to be herself how would her songs be different. Instead of the same repetitive insufferable political rhetoric will she explore another theme like she did back in electra heart? I was her fan since childhood and wish her the best during her comeback, but a part of me still wants to see that Marina which is not a jaded political puppet, but what made her special.
We need Electra Heart, The Family Jewels and FROOT reaction.
YESSSSSSSSS
OMFG YES.
Omg YES
PLEASEEE
I'll defo have to check them out!
I caught this premiere. Period. This album is so good. She kinda combined all her eras into one.
That's cool! It'll be interesting to go back and listen!
What song has electra heart energy? I feel this album has a lot of Froot, Love + Fear and Family Jewels energy
@@ebanydwayne1357 honesty Venus flytrap gives me bubblegum bish & htbahb vybes
@@ebanydwayne1357 none. This is ADIAML not Electra Heart.
I like that although the second half is about her breakup, it still holds some of the confidence and mature awareness of the political first half
Yeah thats super cool it feels like she's discovered herself in the first half then made changes reflecting that in the second

@@Venus.Y are you a man
@@Venus.Y but she doesn’t generalize men.
Marinas never been one to hold back, im honestly so happy with this album as it feels sort of refreshing to see an artist be so upfront and bold lol
Yeah I get that!
All music is political, a persons political consciousness shines through their words. Saying nothing at all is an indicator you are content with the Status quo.
"Who gave you jazz, hip hop rock and roll and the blues" is a pretty under-rated line
Yeah I like that one too
I'm just so happy for her. Seen Marina's trajectory as an artist and a person through the years is just such a pleasure. She's an amazing person and this album/era is the cherry on top of all
You really should check out her whole discography! They’re all very vast but all so amazing
Cool! How many albums has she done?
@@Luscent 5. They are (in order) The Family Jewels, Electra Heart, Froot, Love + Fear, and Ancient Dreams.
Yeah I love that!
Everything is political, and Marina is everything
My favorite Marina album is Electra Heart. It's from 2012. She created a character to represent 4 archetypes (american housewife, primadonna, idle teen and homewrecker), it's lyrically and musically amazing. I would love to hear you react to that.
Super cool yeah I'd definitely be interested in doing it!
Same
listening to the second half of this album right after L+F really hits hard imo, having gone from songs like Superstar, Believe in Love and Soft to be Strong, to Pandora's box, I Love You But I Love Me More and Flowers was heartbreaking when I first listened to all of her albums in order :'/
I’d say Family Jewels as her debut album is a must listen as well as Electra Heart and Froot all incredible albums. Love & Fear is considered her weakest album but there is some good stuff there.
The way he appreciates the songwriting really makes me curious how he'd feel about The Family Jewels, Electra Heart, FROOT and Love + Fear
Marina is an wonderful lyricist, as well as a wonderful singer, and she is able to bring us into her world with her clever songwriting by showing us that she is just like us.
Love that about her!
@@Luscent Great channel btw. Just found it yesterday and you are very informative and you explain your thoughts clearly and with intelligence. New sub here.
@@Luscent I must see if you did Jesse Ware's What's Your Pleasure from last year. Best album of 2020 for me/
This album hits in many different places, personally i have grown listening to her stuff and i enjoy all her albums, she puts a lot of thought on it when discussing sensitive topics, her first two albums are a lot darker than the others but they are so freaking good, you should check all them out ♥ love♥
Cool it's nice to hear an artist who isn't afraid about really sharing their opinions!
If you're only going to react to one more of Marina's albums, please do The Family Jewels.
Ok cool!
I agree with that! I think it's good to address our privileges and criticize our governments
I feel like even though the song is specifically called New America and talks to america it is also a reminder as well for the rest of the world
"Man's world" is a punch to the guts (if these guys ever had some) of the patriarchal system. She's bold, she's smart, she's the Queen.
It's really about the third eye
I love her and I love this album. Thank you Marina!
She's a really cool artist!!
Marina's always been a bit political, but this album is definitely more direct.
This wasn’t political enough for me. I wanted more finger pointing. I can do it all day haha
Hahahahaaa love that
I really like it. I get what you are saying about it not being as catchy. There's more meaning to her songs this time and I think in order to do that she made her songs less formulaic, which in turn has made the songs less catchy at first. However, the more you listen the better and catchier each song becomes. You really understand what she did to achieve that goal. I love it. You should definitely give froot a listen then electra heart.
exactly !!
We need a reaction to ALL OF THEM! Family Jewels (most theatrical one) Electra Heart (my absolute fave and the one who made me know about Marina) Froot (A jewel, not my favourite tho) Love + Fear (I DID love this one. However it’s the more poppy one... with Marina’s touch anyway)
I hope you give each one of them a chance, they all are great art pieces. Loved your reaction. Suscribed
yesss l+f is AMAZINGGG
New America is a very deep song, calls out the police, the way the CIA coups other countries, starts wars over oil and other resources and how it's built on stolen land. Best song on the album imo
If you want catchy pop I think you’ll like Electra Heart and then FROOT BUT her first album THE FANILY JEWELS is similar in style to this album. It’s really amazing
I think you'll love her album LOVE + FEAR. Imo she talks about consumerism here and there and I love it
I kind of disagree on your statement on the 3rd song.
Going on
Not much more to say. The first song is in my playlist since I first heard it.
amazing reaction!! so good to see the point of view of someone out of the hype, really nice
Glad you liked it!!
If you’re looking for catchier/more pop sounding songs, I think you’d LOVE her second album ‘Electra Heart’!!! 💓 She worked with people who have produced for Katy Perry, Rihanna, etc. on that one!
pls do her other albums, specialy electra heart and froot
👍
@@Luscent please do then in order
loved your reaction, I just think in New America she sings "when you see the police there's no reason to run" referring to white people from the USA
Marina: says anything
This guy: *y e a h*
Yeah
Love her music she’s one of my favorite underrated artist. I love that she’s different and each song has a message. A lot of which I kind of get. She has so many bops.
MAN WHY TF DO I LOVE YOUR SPEAKING VOICE SO MUCH OMG SO ADDICTIVE
Hahahaaa thanksssssss
Electra heart, FROOT and The Family Jewells reaction please
👍👍👍
@@Luscent but with the videos!! Unlike in this one
@@Luscent yes and also the videos! Its a concept album and it has so many cuts that work as "transitions"
Awesome and thank you! I'll be sure to check out her other stuff!
Enjoy discovering her!
enjoy your life and end of the earth are AMAZINGGG
Oh God, i've been waiting for this. Thank you so much
It’s a great album! I think the unique and almost kooky sound she has to her melodies and instrumentals make a lot more sense when you look at them in the context of her evolution from her debut album to the present

I love this album soooooo sooo much°°

All of the albums are worth while - A lot of people will leave Love+Fear off, but it holds a special place for me. I also think that it is more contemporary where some of the beats on The Family Jewels and Electra Heart are of their time - still fantastic albums but a number of reactors have struggled to appreciate because it's been 9/10+ years.
My favs are Electra heart and FROOT albums, once you listen to them you will see that she actually brought back some of her vibes from those albums.
Loved your reaction. Please react to Magdalene by FKA Twigs
I recommed you to listen to her earlier album "froot"
I think Quite retro(or funk idk how to describe..) but unique and whole album tracks are related so well!
I do love her all albums but if someone asks me to choose only one album, i would tell "froot"
You definitely deserve more views man.
Aw thanks
I wish i had more time. Coming back to this at another point in time. If don't make it, here is my obligatory comment and llike.

Going from Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land to Electra Heart seems odd, it’s a big jump. I feel like going to Love + Fear then to FROOT and all the way down makes more sense. L+F is also the most lyrically similar to ADIAML.
