I went yesterday they had a small table of markdowns but where they used to have their plants is all Christmas stuff now 😮 In Indianapolis after Labor Day it’s all downhill at the big box stores
I found a monstera thai constellation a few months ago in SC! As well as a philodendron pink princess, staghorn fern, marble queen pothos, and whale fin snake plant, and they’re all still thriving! The stores aren’t huge chains, but still very much big box stores here in SC
I really did not want to buy any plants this month but last week I saw a Whale Fin and a very nice Ring of Fire at Whole Food, so I got them against my better judgement. Trader's Joe has small olive bushes for $12. I really want to get one, but I'll be away for three weeks soon; I don't think the olive plant will survive that long without watering, so I have to ignore it for now.
I found gloriosum and a bunch of those small hoya babies for $6 this summer. The Hoya Rosita I got is really thriving in a shady spot outside. I’m in California and it’s still pretty warm.
Walmart in California don’t have plants either. Said out of season 😅😅. All X-mas stuffs. All the Big Box Stores are all over water. I empty so many pots 😢😢. Only buy cactus and succulents for now.
It’s tough when you can’t find the plants you want, especially during the holiday season. Cacti and succulents are great choices though-they’re low maintenance and perfect for the winter!
Eeck majesty palms, DNE. I wish I had decent big box near me, the plant market in general is really rather sad in Atlanta, there is "boutique" type place that expanded their business to include coffee and cocktails.
Hi Kevin ! I actually picked up those two Alocasia's you showed early on at the Home Depot near my home. Unfortunately i didn't pay those prices up here in Canada. Win some ..lose some. I'll take American pricing any day. Both of them were healthy and quite a few leaves on them without any hitch hikers !
@@PlantswithKevin This is true! Yeah us Canucks get ripped off here in Canada! Taxes after taxes and a horrible exchange rate.. Those leaves on the Longiloba are huge and the veining is so pronounced. Mine had a dozen corms sticking out of it and even flowered after i brought it home.
It sounds like your jungle cat alocasia is having a tough time! Have you checked its watering routine and light conditions? Those factors can really make a difference.

This was such a fun and exciting plant hunt! 🌿 I love finding great deals, and your tips for navigating big box stores are super helpful. I'm glad you enjoyed the outing! Those orchid prices are definitely a steal!

It's interesting how quickly the seasons shift in retail! It feels like the holidays start earlier every year. Thanks for sharing your experience!

That’s amazing!!! 🤩
The Home Depots near me have small indoor plant areas 😩 I don’t see those type of deals near me!!! So lucky my guy
Hopefully they add some more foliage!
I found a good sized Thai Con for $40 at my local Giant Tiger in Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Thank you for sharing your find! It's always exciting to see fellow plant lovers score great deals. Enjoy your Thai Con!
@@PlantswithKevin I am! Literally couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it

My whale fin is one of my favorite plants! :-D
Thank you, plant dad! ❤
Plant dad reporting for duty! Just remember, I’m here to help you grow, not just your plants but your knowledge too!
@@PlantswithKevin haha! 😆
Walmart near Houston had no tropical plants when I went there a month or so ago.
It’s surprising how quickly the stock can change! Hopefully, they’ll have some tropical plants back in soon.
I got some great deals here in MD, the fiddle fig was 39$ yes the 6ft ones
😍😍😍

WOW! A gloriosum at a box store is a GREAT FIND! :-)
Great video 😊
Thanks! 😊

I'm always surprised to hear that in larger cities!
Walmart really sucks here for plants. Only one rack of very common plants and a few cacti. Manitoba Canada 🇨🇦
It's frustrating when you expect a wider selection! Hopefully, they'll improve their plant section soon.

Ah, the classic Canadian pricing dilemma! At least you’ve got some beautiful Alocasia to keep you company while you ponder the exchange rates. 😄

Billitaes and Rings of Fire are popping up in my local Home Depo and even Whole Food.
they're such beautiful species!
I got the “jungle cat” alocasia and it has been struggling with splotches that turn brown 😢

Have you considered going in to radio or TV? You have a great voice.

The dry air is real.
it doesn't mess around lol

Dude, you really need to do a serious trim on those pits!
Well, I like to think of it as my secret weapon against unwanted attention. But I might just take your advice!
@@PlantswithKevin Thanks for being such a good sport!

You are moving your camera way too fast.
Thanks for the feedback! I’ll work on keeping the camera movements smoother in future videos.
If it's in a big box store idk if I would call it rare.
that's not true :-) A lot of mass producers, like Costa Farms, are making rares become more widely available
