Hey Marshie, thank you for all the vids, as a lifelong pokemon fan I had never played the card game, but understood it thanks to your vids on the main channel and picked up Pocket on global launch. So far enjoying it in a chill, slow way. I intended to go for the budget Blaine Deck into Charizard ex, but ended up opening both Exeggutor ex so I hopped over to try pulling the Venusaur ex from the Mewtwo pack. So far 0 Ivysaur and Venusaur but I pulled two of the extended art Mewtwo ex, so I’m waiting on a second Gardevoir to try it out. Thank you for all the content and entertainment, and I hope the channel flourishes now that everyone can play the game. Say hi to Barkley too!
I love these types of decks, along with D'nite and melmetal but these decks are all irrelevant due to the speed and power of the 4 EX decks that are plaguing the game at the moment. It's quite disappointing.
Its flipped because if the first person to go could attach an energy, then on their second turn, they could attack with a 2 energy attack. Where as the player going second could only attack with a one energy attack on their first turn.
3:18 About that point, in this game that would break going first for stage 1 decks. Imagine a player goes first, places an energy on Staryu, you go second, do your thing, and on the third turn the player who went first evolved to Starmie with 2 energy attacking for 90, player who went second have absolutely no chance to evolve and can’t fight back by any means. Same goes for Nine Tails, Golduck, Electrode, Jolteon, Sandslash, Marowak Ex and most of what I mentioned above are not even EX, so that would limit future design specially for EX. Let’s wait a few sets and see the supporters that will come because regular TCg also had the issue of going second being better for a while.
Your comment at 2:12 onward about Red Card is a really salient point. Red Card seems like a pretty good card to the average player (and it kinda is!) because it's so devastating during the early collection process where you do not have a streamlined deck. Plus, it's also punishing to mistakes made via bad hand management, combo decks, or reactive cards in general. It obviously has a lot of weak points against the "meta" decks, but especially for players in the early stages of their account, it will semi-frequently silently win them games.
I’ve been playing this deck for a couple days but when I tried swapping out Giovanni for a Meowth like you used it just felt clunky and like it was losing me winnable games ( and not making a big enough difference in games I was losing anyways ). I prefer more reliable early chip or late game guaranteed / surprise KOs with the Giovanni, and making the deck a bit more predictable without Meowth. Sacrificing a female usually isn’t the end of the world and I’d rather play around that and knowing when to use my X speeds. TLDR: Meowth = Snorlax but feels so much worse.
I adore the Nidoking/queen full art cards. Are there any potential cards that could be printed from the tcg that'll make this deck more consistent/playable? I keep hearing about Rare Candy etc.
It needs to get energy onto its attackers and to evolve lots of pokemon. Dark Patch and Evo Soda come to mind, but theres lots of stuff they could print along those lines.
being first is to get to evolve pkmn at your next turn. that means being first is to get a faster evolution. being second is to get to attach an energy, and 1st get to attack first. thus, 1st = evolution, and 2nd = attack
ive been trying to get the pieces for monarchy. seems fun, settled for a Cinccino do the wave deck til I find the remaining evolutions. its not good but its fun enough so we take it
hey man, im really into this game, and i was wondering if you wanted to discuss some new decks you could bring in the future, i honestly really like the more niche decks you bring, and i have a few i wanted to share with somebody
Hi Mr. Buu I love pocket so far, was wondering what you use to play on pc? Because it seems like you are using a mouse, unless im mistaken! Would love to know because I don't play many mobile games and would probably play far more if I had it on pc.
In the first match i didn't quite understand why you didn't play the meowth. You even mentioned his Sabrina, then you can put the meowth in play, he can either knock it out for 1 price which didn't matter and you win or he doesn't knock it out and you retreat it and win. Just a small thing though, i like watching you play diverse decks, since i can't
23:37 The second extra energy that is attached to Lilligant gets put on the Venasaur Ex anyways through its first attack. Its the same speed of energy generation as attaching 1 energy to an Exeggcutor Ex.
@@MartianBuuPocket Oh yeah, I do think its overall better to play Exeggutor Ex over Lilligant, but Lilligant can allow you to use Giant Bloom with Venasaur one turn earlier if it attacks more than once. The second Lilligant attack allows you to attach two energy to Venasaur Ex on the same turn. Edit: Also, Exeggutor Ex does have 3 retreat cost, which can be a detriment at times over Lilligants 1 retreat cost.
In defense of using "abuse" in that context: The rule that makes you always start with a basic is because your opponent randomly getting extra cards like in the paper tcg when you just draw poorly would suck in this game. It's not intended to be used to make decks consistently always draw one specific card. In that sense, those decks "abuse" a rule in an unintended way to gain an advantage. If those decks ever became good, that could create a frustrating play experience where it feels like you have to build in a certain way to stay competitive. I do generally agree with that pet peeve of yours though, people use way too strong of language to describe normal gameplay mechanics very, very often. You make a good point that synergy =/= abuse. Like, people saying using Misty to attack on turn 1 with Articuno is "abusing" the card is just stupid. Or describing meta decks as "degenerate" and similar things. I just don't think there's really a better word to describe using a rule in an unintended way to gain an advantage. You could also say exploiting or something, but overall I think in that specific instance the term "abuse" is more of a descriptive word than a judgemental one.
I still think its silly. I dont think building your deck to always start with one specific basic is inherently bad, its just strategy. Youre not abusing the rule, youre building a deck with purpose in mind. Making the most of the framework of a games ruleset is what makes these games fun. If I was going to describe a deck that does this, Id day “only runs Articuno so you always start with it”. It doesn’t need “abuses the opening basic rules” framing that only exists because some people feel like there should be stigma attached to it.
@@MartianBuuPocket I think that's a fair point. I imagine a lot of people will still use that wording because it's just what they go to, though I think changing that norm would probably be a positive thing.
@@jackthorndyke3390 Yeah people default to it, and I think most people dont think much about it. They just parrot some sentiment they saw online. I do think it would be good if that wasnt the default, as it makes people talk about some completely acceptable stuff in an unnecessarily negative light.
They were from the Fire Red Leaf Green set, King gave all other Nido +10 damage and Queen gave other Nido free retreat. She was also the main attacker, 3 for 40 for each of your evolved pokemon in play. Turns out Queen was the best part of the deck, went on to be in its own archetype w/o King.
Really appreciate all the great content you've been making on this game. It's cool to see all these decks I hopefully can play myself some day.
That articuno starmie player was making plays of all time, that was hard to watch but witnessing Nidos win made up for it, good stuff👍

Dragonite can keep up with ex decks with Weezing and Koga but yeah the overall trend definitely hurts these slower evolution based decks.
I’ve been looking forward to this video since the last video. Happy to see it’s finally here.
I'm glad you decided to keep making videos on this game. I've been playing it and trying out your decks

love the combo these 2 set up. All hail the Queen

Yes but as the current card pool is rn attaching an energy first is much more important. Going first is generally a big disadvantage.

Love this deck, feels pretty consistent, just isn’t fast enough sometimes. Nidoking is a strong followup if nidoqueen goes down too.

I wish Martian’s opponents would stop abusing their ability to attack his Pokémon and just let him win :(
How did the tcg Monarchy deck work? Searching for it got me mostly Yugioh results and the Pokemon results weren't illuminating.

Great anti meta deck for Mewtwo bro.
