Being a 19 year old Tail-gunner on a B-17 in 1943, myself and the crew always looked forward to Anita's performances at Thorpe-Abbotts!
Everyone goes on about reaching the 25th Mission so you could go home but in all honesty, it was Anita who kept us going and always wanting to get back to base and to see when her next performance was! We would count down the completed missions one-by-one until the next Anita show!
I fondly remember how our Captain would always start singing "It Aint Gonna Suck Itself" over the intercom when things got rough on a mission. It would always perk the guys up!!!

Great story and thanks for your service. My maternal grandfather was a rear gunner on a Flying Fortress. Not a tail gunner, he was inside the fuselage. Didn’t get over there until close to the end of the war, but he had some pictures he took of Jet Fighters the Germans had at the end of the war. Need to get hold of my brother and get those photos.
