That's one of the things about school bass fishing that provides a definite opportunity to the young scholarly mind to develop useful skills. It's like the old fashioned 'high school' science projects. Where the job of the student was not only to carry out research (and push the envelope of science). But to explain it too, to the wider audience. And that's normally the point in the high school science project. Where the guy is standing in front of the volcano, the windmill or the solar panel (nowadays it seems to be diesel generators strapped on to EV's). And guys have to make up the script and provide the scientific explanation to the examiner or judge. That is where it goes crash, bang, wallop. I recall that when I graduated to college stage, beyond high school. We were asked to design building projects for town and urban planning. Once it was an Olympic swimming pool project for the capital city. And that is when it really went crash, bang, wallop. That's why these skills acquired at this junior level. In talking about what one is doing. Are useful to have later on.
The only difference was, that where I grew up as part of British culture. The objective was not to compete in fishing tournaments. It was to start a garage rock band instead (and I remember being the dork in a college level classroom, who wanted to fish as a sport). Bob Geldof had been one of the students who attended our college for a while. In the seventies, around ten or twenty years before I got there. And Sir Bob's explanation of 'punk rock music' in the seventies. Was the idea that you could learn three guitar chords. And start a band. He said that he applied that particular philosophy to all things in life. At one stage he organized a thing called Life Aid in the eighties decade. With a lot of other music artists. He said it kind of blew his punk rock street credibility out of the window. But he didn't care. And still comes back to Ireland to play the odd session in the small venues. The point is though, is that some guys learned that skill. Of being able to explain the stuff, whatever it was. The science project or the music piece (no one likes to make fun of Sir Bob more than me, and we must have shared some common friends at points). His documentaries about the poet W.B. Yeats in recent times were excellent. And I had no idea he could apply himself to the appreciation of poetry too. There were zero trout, salmon or bass anglers around back then. At high school or college levels. And lots of them became successful. That was what they took from performance in music bands and things. Was that capability to present ideas and think about the bigger picture. It's no harm to start to train oneself in that respect. To some extent from an early age. It's a skill that will be required at various points in time. The ability to analyze a circumstance, and try to explain it.
