Hey! Thanks so much for the review! You absolutely nailed what i think makes DD great: the variety of gameplay mechanics, the beautiful visuals, and fun combat. I'm the composer for the game, and i think your criticisms are totally valid. We debated a lot with whether to score the action or the atmosphere, and in the end opted to do a bit of both. Scoring more of the armosphere early on, and more and more action as the game progresses. :)
By any chance, do you happen to know if there are any plans to release the game on consoles? ^^
@@buckethood5757 yes! Switch is planned for sure, but it will take time. No release date yet. Then from there I imagine other ports will happen.
@@ModalModule Thanks a lot for sharing the information. Might consider buying it after i finish Metaphor Refantazio
I'm glad you enjoyed the review! And I can see that shift regarding the music. I may have been a bit too critical in my review because the further into the game I got, the more songs I enjoyed for sure. I said in the review that I liked World 3's music but world 4, 5 and 6 also have some excellent tracks in them. You did a great job with it. 😁
@@NantenJex nice!! No worries, it was expressed as an opinion as opposed to empirical fact anyway, which is always appreciated. :)
Backed this on kickstarter a few years back, super glad to hear it nailed what it was going for stylistically and mechanically.
Very interesting, might check this out. Thanks for highlighting!
What a nice review! I lovely how you explained the game and the pros and cons.
Funnily enough, the control scheme of Kirby Super Star was what inspired the Smash control scheme... so this is really just returning that control scheme to its original habitat
This video title is just what I needed. As someone who ironically rarely plays games anymore, I am extremely interested as someone who has already been spending years imagining what a game like this (Subspace Emissary 2) could be.
Ayyy cool to see you cover this game
This game definitely wears its many influences on its sleeve, and that's not a bad thing. To me, the first game that popped up in my mind when I saw its gameplay was Wario Land 4, which basically means I need to get this game as soon as possible.
Thanks for sharing this game! This looks right up my alley!
The game does have a great art style, but is that not an AI generated background at 3:20 ? The lights shining at the base of the buildings really don't look right (they're even clipping over each other somehow), and the buildings themselves look pretty muddy and have weird geometry. I apologize if I'm wrong, but it doesn't look like it matches the art style of the rest of the backgrounds in these clips.
It doesn't really look like it to me, and the Steam page doesn't have any disclaimers about it. So i think it's real
Seems like it wanted to be more of an exploratory experience with a cozy tone, but I'm gonna wavedash like hell if the demo is any indication.
My only worry is about how enjoyable combat against normal enemies or using the meter may be but it is more like a spice added onto a platforming dish than the main attraction perhaps... The bosses do seem good though.
The one thing I will say - I think the length of the game should always be mentioned in a review. No, not for the sake of "value" where every game supposedly needs to be 100 hours, but actually because of the opposite reason. The length of a game says something fundamental about what the game is aiming to achieve. (Ex. Castlevania 4 vs Xenoblade Chronicles)
Looks more Guacamelee than Smash.
Maybe that's just me.
Another Wario Land like as well?
"Dev copy" and there goes any lack of bias.
