    Thank you for doing this video! My girl Lauren was having trouble with this about half way through the season, and then started to get better towards the end when she made it to state. IMO, this is the best video you have done so far, and I learned a lot of things that I didn't necessarily know.

      Thanks coach! Happy to hear Lauren stayed on the grind and added another little piece to the pole vault puzzle! Be sure to let me know what else you want me to talk about!

      Right now she only needs to learn how to get faster which is what your in season training plan will do, and then she needs to learn how to fully get inverted instead of only getting 70% of the way. I think those 2 things are fairly easy to correct, and if she can do that I believe she'll be in the 11'6" range. This year I didn't have anything to go off of other than I knew she had the talent.

    Everyone who doesn’t know much about pole vault needs to watch this video because I am always asked why I don’t just grip at 20ft so I can jump higher but people don’t understand how hard it is to make adjustments!!😂

    Whenever I jump I always take off under and my bottom arm always collapses anyway to fix this?

    I like to keep my center of gravity low by swinging my trail leg long from takeoff until it points toward box

    Any suggestions to help if you keep slipping down once you hit the box ? Is it just a mental thing from the jolt when you hit the box or something more technical

    • @TeamHootPoleVault
      @TeamHootPoleVault  5 років тому

      Sounds like you might be gripping a little too high. Try gripping down 3 inches and see if that helps. ALways remember to squeeze hard with both hands not just the top one!

    Whenever I run down the lane, I tend to hurt my back wrist due to the awkward position it’s in. How do I fix this?

    • @WarrenMillerPV
      @WarrenMillerPV 5 років тому +2

      Don't hold onto it with your whole hand until your 1 or 2 lefts out from takeoff but that could also create problems if you aren't used to it. Some people hold their whole hand in their front arm and just use the thumb and pointed finger to balance the pole with their back hand until they start the curl phase

    • @sorrym8421
      @sorrym8421 5 років тому +2

      I clench the pole between my thumb and my index finger and as I let it down into the box I transition into a grab.

      Sorry M8 and WarrenDoesThings Nailed it. Also remember that any time you do something new with your body it will take time to adapt. If it's bad pain then stop, but if its just changing pain then maybe roll with it!

    I don’t if anyone else has this problem but I can clear every height up until 11 6 but for the life of me can’t clear 9 and only 9.

      It took me 2 years to clear 18 feet. Then the first day i put it at 18'1 i smoked it! haha

    Great Job Again Shawn!! And... The more you load the pole with your speed the stronger and more efficient you need to be with your invert. That's Shawn's "Swing" part. The swing can add energy to the system and keep those bigger poles moving with 2 things: muscle strength and sequential motion. To see a demonstration about that see this video ua-cam.com/video/PzRnNOI4g6E/v-deo.html

      Speed is needed to vault high, but in mastering technique too much too soon can break you. Its all a delicate balance
