The first National Policy on Education NEP was framed in 1968 on the recommendations of the Kothari Commission, then the second turning point the new NEP came in 1986 and modified in 1992. More than three decades have passed since any new policy came to existence and here we have National Education Policy 2020 or simply, NEP 2020. During this period significant changes have taken place in our country, society economy, and the world at large so, we needed the policy to meet global standards. It is in this context that the education sector needs to gear itself towards the demands of the 21st Century and the needs of the people as well as the country. Quality, innovation, and research will be the pillars on which India will become a knowledge superpower.

The Committee for preparation of the draft National Education Policy submitted its report to the MHRD on 31.05.2019. The Draft National Education Policy 2019 (DNEP 2019) was uploaded on MHRD’s website and also followed by public consultations and suggestions.

Dear KP Sharma,
As per implementation plan,
The phase-wise implementation of the NEP will start from this month as stated on the cabinet note with more than 100 recommendations. In higher education the academic bank of credit will come by December 2020. Multiple entry and exit will also come from the 2020-21 session. The institutions of eminence will start early and subsequently be extended to central universities and willing state universities.
The recommendations are being divided into non-financial and financial reforms and the former will be started early.

As far as NCERT is concerned, NEP 2020 introduces several major changes at School Education level like including of local content with flavour in NCERT books. So, yes NCERT books will change but when that's not very clear yet.

Dear Swapna, as per NEP 2020, Prior to the age of 5 every child will move to a “Preparatory Class” or “Balavatika” (that is, before Class 1), which has an ECCE-qualified teacher. You may then, as per the guidelines.

Dear Rahul , 1992 change was just modification of NPE 1986 and not a new policy so it isn't counted for revamping credits. It's counted after 1986 policy that was a new education policy .
