- A man and his car fulfilling an European American dream.
After 15 years he returns to Black Rock Desert, Nevada.
Back then with a ’57 Chevy rental car, this time with his own ’70 Dodge Challenger.
Starting with the shipment of the 42 year old muscle car from the Netherlands to the USA and ending with the shipment back to the Netherlands.
In between a 5 weeks and 9,000 miles long trip through 16 states of USA and Canada.
From the east coast to the west coast and ending at the south coast.
Scenes of empty roads, national parks, people, muscle cars, deserted places and Vanishing Point and Lost Highway movie locations.
A view on the new continent seen by someone from the old continent.
Mostly seen through the lens of an infrared black & white camera mounted on the dashboard and with the soundtrack of a roaring huge V8. - Авто та транспорт
I want to know who the 30 people were who disliked this. They have to ride the short bus. Guy brought his classic American muscle car to the US to live a dream most could only live to dream about. Super cool video. Thank you for the money spent, the planning involved, and execution of a great video.
Das ist Wonderbar.
Some people don't know why they " Like " a video ; just like they don't know why they " dislike " a video.
There's just not any reason for that.
I absolutely love your car, 1970-1971 Challengers were always my favorite muscle cars. Glad to see someone is out there actually driving and enjoying it and not letting it sit in the garage ;)
I knew that you will upload smth but .....this movie is masterpiece...thank you!! I enjoyed every minute of THIS!!!
+VladGoro25 Thx!
Now that's a road trip!! On my first visit to the US back in 87 I bought a 70 Challenger for $1200 & drove it for six months. Came back in 88 & picked up where I left off for another six months, then moved here in 89. I've had 16 Challenger's since then & still have the first & last ones.
Such a trip with such a car, I can imagine how great that was.
Thanks for putting so much effort doing this! It has the spirit of Vanishing Point :) Seems like a dream journey come true. Really atmospheric with some nice details and cool editing. I wish I could do this myself someday. But it was great coming along in way of watching this movie.
Vanishing Point vibes, even if the Challenger is a different color. Excellent video
Was thinking the samething.
OMG What a movie! Thank you so much for sharing this experience.
Thank you, COOL! I wanted to ship my '70 Challenger RT convt. to Belgium from Canada in '72. I flew over and rented cars instead. Seeing this, I wish I had. After seeing VP, I had mine painted white. I've driven many of the roads seen here many times (I'm 71). Last summer, I bought a '57 BelAir 2dr. HT., Turqois, white top. We have a lot in common. "Keep on Truckin"
There goes the challenger.... Last beautiful free soul on this planet... Rock on....
THIS is how to LIVE! Awesome video and excellent story. Most of us can only dream of doing this.
Incredible video...own a 1973 Challenger, 340 magnum. Drove it to Big Bend NP, Llano Texas, Zion, Bryce. A mini Pale Ride Odyssey.
340's were Wedges...
Breathtaking work! Simply astonishing! I'm in awe....
Greetings from Germany!
Atmosphere of this movie is unreal)) such a "live" trip
Awesome ride. I too owned 1970 Dodges. My first one was when I was 18 back in 1972 through to 1976. It was a 1970 Dodge Charger 383 MAGNUM 500 SE. It went like stink 185 mph. Influenced by the movie "Bullet." My second one was in 1988 through to 1991 and it was a white 1970 Challenger only had a 318 in it but just to have owned one was more than enough. It was influenced by the same movie you followed in this video "Vanishing Point." To still own them today would be having the world by the balls...
185 mph in a 70 Charger?
So serene ,beautiful and bleek at times , amazing journey and small encounters. Deep memories. Dialog was perfection , audio amazing. Seriously great video . Musical credits ?? You've taken a journey most can only wish for. Not too shabby a ride. Come again my talented friend.
Thx for the compliments.
Musical credits between 59:34 and 59:52.
Most music is from my previous band 57Chevy and my solo project URD1.
6492 miles in 15 days in 1996. We turned right instead of left at Yosemite. We had seen enough desert and headed for the Redwood forest. Far lesser vehicle no doubt but did Pikes Peak with 4 passengers and 2 weeks supplies. :) Not taking anything from you Roland. I truly enjoy your videos and will take my more than capable 2010 Challenger out there soon I hope.
KOWALSKI IS STILL ALIVE!!!
Thanks for sharing amazing ride.
really creative ,very good camera work and editing -atmospheric cool car!
Wow... just wow. The journey seemed incredible! I can really relate to this as this is pretty much my number one goal in life; to restore my very own '70 Challenger and drive it all around the USA. I am still quite a long time away from that, but your video is literally the closest I will get to my dream. Thank you very much for this!
It's funny because the first time I ever saw a Challenger in reality was when I went to a classic car show in the Netherlands last year in Reuver. Couldn't get a chance to talk to the people but the cars were amazing. I think one of them also had the 440 magnum in it, but it was converted from a base model. Still just as good in my book!
Do you happen to be sharing the soundtrack for non-commercial use? I absolutely loved it and especially the last one, High Plains Shifter. I want to listen to that song one day when I drive my Challenger, it just fits so well. Also I loved all the references to Kyuss and western movies, Clint Eastwood would be proud!
Again, thank you very much for this awesome movie and I hope you get the chance to do it again and make more.
+Kryndon64 thx 4 the compliments ;-)
Most songs of the soundtrack you can find on my URD1 site. Check my Pale Rider channel page for a link to that site (can't post an url here)
Some songs are from my URD1 project (like High Plains Shifter), others from my previous band 57Chevy.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. Your videography is interesting and captivating. I came for the car, and stayed for the views.
Excellent job. 👍
Simply a dream come true.... awesome footage, and the sound of your Challenger is just ♥
Thank you for sharing this :)
Impressive movie. It must be awesome feeling to drive in an old Challenger through the USA. Especially through the endless plains and deserts. I drove through the southwest in August and can feel it a bit. But in a Challenger is of course a dream. Very cool movie, which arouses longing for freedom, light-heartedness and being on the go
'Freedom Run' was the original (Kyuss-ian) working title ;-)
perfekt ;-)
Right On Rolie...........................
I visited Niagra Falls and I could've sworn I saw your Challenger! Beautiful car by the way, I am 13 and started saving up a month ago to get my dream car. 1970 Dodge Challenger, Hemi orange, Black interior with manual gear box and classic steering wheel. Good luck on your future endeavours.
I was there in the late afternoon of Thursday Sep 13th.
First I visited the US site and after that the Canadian site (where the videos were shot).
Awesome trip. I hope to someday be able to explore the west like that. Being from Maine I’ve never seen desert and vast open spaces like that before. That’s awesome you got to drive your car, enjoy it, get it dirty and now have those memories. I’d love to see the car with all of its road grime on it after that trip.
What amazing trip men!!!
Great work! Someone that gets it. 🤘😎
The visuals in this film are stunning. Great job, Pale Rider! How does this remarkable film have only have 5K views and 103 Likes(as of 02/April/2017)?? Such a shame.
Thx!
Spread the word ;-)
Awesome video !! Keep Mopar alive!
Great video and car sounds Magic 👍🍻
Good for you, u actually did it there is a lot of people that want to do what you did. You got one life live it to the max, nice ride brother, from Toronto, Ont.
I passed through Toronto twice during that trip :-)
Just awesome👍👍👍
simply great movie and fantastic trip...not to mention the awesome car....
Great video Roland! I was also great to meet you in person! Maybe next time I'll join you!
Great American Ride ! 👏🏻
Just awesome!
Whats up Humungus?
Old American cars are like old fighter planes, just cool.
Superb movie & fabulous in black & white. Having driven Route 66 in a Challenger R/T & two years previously, the Pacific Coast Highway, it's just great to live the dream. That "Vanishing Point" movie has a lot to answer for us men of a certain age!
Thnx!
Excellent video.
That video was awesome!
RESPECT!!!!
Thank You for fun drive and 3" music is always sweet!
infrared is so cool.
Very, very cool.
“HELLO” ~cool~~~~~~~~~!
Awesome Video !!
beautiful!
Im especially enjoying the fact that there's metal in this video...too many classic car videos have generic copyright free youtube techno or dubstep it pisses me off
The largest part is made by me (solo as URD1 and with my previous band 57Chevy, a kind of stoner rock band)
well done video and i am sure you enjoyed it even more doing it. i also dream of taking one of my cars for a European trip.
seeing that container get loaded and moved around gives me anxiety for you. I couldnt let someone handle my car like that
Jammer van het zwart wit beeld, maar verder perfect man! Een echte man de droom
This is my new favorite movie bud u should swing through Las Vegas I'd ride out with you in the 2020 scatpack.🤙
Awesome Mopar Power.
interesting video, amazing trip. Vanishing Point on! The last American hero, the super driver in the golden west.
Vanishing Point:
A circular road with 50% of it inverted,
Original Meaning,
To drive for Infinity.
Great car.... trip of a lifetime...
Many thanks for your video(s). Namely, in these crazy times, makes our days better and bring back great memories. I was travelling with my wife for 1 month from Las Vegas through many of the locations shown by you to San Francisco and finally to Salt Lake City, those time by rented Toyota Camry and having no clue about muscle cars at all. Now, enjoying 2020 GT AWD (though she's just V6) I understand and like your videos with a particular feeling. There is always a part of Garfield in soul of any cat, and maybe a part of Kowalski in everyone.
'Finding freedom in this soul-mobile', that kind of Kowalski-feel
@@66PaleRider Exactly, you cannot express it better. Greetings from Prague
Greetings back from Rotterdam
Palerider this is way too fckin cool man....
Awesome video, Roland. Hope you can make it back to the States one day and join us at a club meet.
Nice work with the infrared.
Great Video, what an epic journey! I love how edited this video and kept it interesting with various perspectives and attention to detail.
glad you came through texas.
Watched every minute of it ! I wish I could do that. I'd like to buy one 72-74 like my dad had. It is my next project
loved it
Very nice video, I wish that someday I can do the same.
Fantastic video so we’ll put together , your car is amazing and the trip in the states looked amazing 👍🏽
She sounded great just coming out of the garage at beginning
Great video !
Bet your motor loved being on home turf again ! -And what beautiful home ground it is !
Still so wild !
Nice touch with the film were kawasaki crashed !
I loved your movie - A great movie - I like many have dreamed of going across the states in a challenger like you have - So glad you documented your trip !
I'm so envious of you ! - Well done fella !
So sorry I missed you while you were in Toronto. Few Mopars here I could have cruised along with in.
+boydsdodge The only Mopar I saw over there was Brad's in Barrie.
Damn this is my dream
That's how you do it
it"s an awesome man
You need a Mopar to catch a Mopar. Mine is 2013 Pentastar Rallye redline only, but it has about as much horses as Kowalski's '71 supercharged. And drinks only 10/100 klicks or so. And her name is Girl. Cos my sadly way too early deceased wife was also a Vanishing Point fan and insisted on it. Never got to drive it cos of her sudden death :(
And of course she is alpine white. Without the red stripe.
Kowalski's car wasn't supercharged. Also the 440 put out 375hp and 480 lbs feet of torque. The V6 is nowhere near a comparison. no offense of course.
cool vid man
Knowing how expensive a 440 Challenger is in the US, you must have paid a pretty penny for that monster.....I salute you sir!!!!!
Yep! Those cars have gone through the roof price wise.
Wat ontzettend gaaf!!!
+philty11 Thx!
Ken je me nog van Nederhorst meeting 2001? Ik Charger. ..mijn broertje Challenger. ..
+philty11 Ik kan me die ontmoeting wel herinneren ja. Of ik jullie nog zou herkennen is wat anders :-)
love your video. Thats was the trip of a lifetime! I'm always interested in videos where guys are road-tripping muscle cars, especially Challengers. You took the car through some very interesting terrain especially the Utah desert. How did the car perform?
SixPack carbs were configured for the Netherlands, so at high altitude it didn't run super smooth (but good enough).
Aluminum radiator, fanshroud and oil cooler kept the temp under control in Californian heat, except for one day near Isabella Lake, where I parked the car in the shade waiting for a cooler moment to continu the trip.
@@66PaleRider Very cool! Have you completed any other upgrades to the car since you made the trip? I put a Tremec 5-speed in my 70 Challenger convertible and wilwood disc brakes. Both were amazing upgrades. A/C is next!
I replaced the SixPack with a MSD Atomic EFI.
All the upgrades I've done before the trip are listed here:

Most enjoyable!! Your editing skill and software are phenomenal! A wonderful story- not just the car/road trip focus of this video, but to follow one man’s journey of fulfilling his dream of a lifetime. The logistics of rebuilding a destroyed antique American car in a foreign land, then shipping that car to the states, then driving it 9000 miles through an unfamiliar country, then returning it home and documenting all of this in a well-produced video… well I’m damned impressed! As an American, I am truly honored that you would expend so much time, money and effort into such an endeavor. And I am most thankful you have taken the time to document and share your journey. Is there any chance you have a color version of this video? Having lived in the desert Southwest most of my life, I find our geographic colors to be striking and vibrant and was somewhat dismayed by their absence. But given your artistic talent, you probably had good reason for the lack of color in this film, so it is not my position to question your creativity.
I too enjoy the road and have a passion for energetic automobiles, but my skill is limited with video and UA-cam. Nevertheless, you might enjoy this short video from one of my many travels. ua-cam.com/video/HjGWWLKf3NU/v-deo.html
I have a soft spot for infrared black&white. In-car videos are shot with a modded camera. Initial version had only the B&W footage, but later I decided to add color footage too to add more contrast.
Pure ASMR
I live in Taft Calif it's close to lost hills oilfields. I wish I'd a never sold my 72 challenger.
The guy with the manually operated stop sign - not every ones idea of a job - Out in middle of nowhere !... But I suppose it keeps him off the streets ???
So awesome!! Love the Video!! Had the Challenger any Problems trough this trip?
Just one little problem; the horn-wire in the steering wheel snapped.Could live/dirve without a working horn over there :-)
i was surprised by total fuel score in the end)))2.783 litres....its a fu*king gas eater))
470 cui/7.7 l souped-up engine eats lotsa gas
Master
Show 👏👏👏,🛣️🛣️🛣️
I'm from the Netherlands, not from Germany. So my native language is Dutch, not Deutsch (subtle difference).
Aber ich kann ein bischen Deutsch lesen und sprechen, so ich verstehe wass du geschrieben hast. ;-)
@@66PaleRider Aha this explains your license plate. Germany has the prefix of the town or cities name where its registered. My bad.
Awesome road trip!! Great vidéo.
Is there a forum thread about the road trip?
In the description is a FB link, on my YT channel page is a FB link and this Facebook page is dedicated to a part (10 days or so) of this trip:
'Vanishing Point Tour 2012'
Pale Rider OK Thank you. hope to see one more trip... ;)
Just waoo
If I had a million dollars, this is what I'd do.

I live about half hour from Goshen, Indiana. I would of brought my Super bee over and took pictures with you.
A American car with European licence plates in USA
whoa @_@
DETROIT,,,,,
Start making these again!
When the EMP hits.... These will be the only reliable transportation.
How did your engine handle the heat? Our 68 Charger 440 R/T struggles in the Norwegian summer, so I can't imagine how it would be like to run it through Nevada
Nevada and California were the hottest parts of my trip; up to 37 degrees Celcius.
A big aluminum radiator, a separate oil cooler and an extra switchable electric fan in front of the radiator did their job.
Fuckin beautiful man!!
wow! great! love the editing, would you care to edit a doc/movie of a veteran motorcycle stuntman? great job again! ever thought of "one lap of america"?
from canada!lol
That whole trip cost me a little fortune, so not likely that I will attend that OLOA.
PM me for that doc/movie.

If you go to my channel, you'll find a Facebook and an Instagram link. There you can contact me.
Thanks for uploading this! Wow, I had no idea you had an accident and restored the car back. If you don't mind me asking, what is the story behind the accident?
Black ice + cheap tires
@@66PaleRider Thanks for sharing that. Whoever restored the body on your Challenger did a fantastic job. Can't even tell it's been in a crash.
you like that guy from the chemical broders whit a challenger. horse power theme"
if I'm old enough maybe ill buy a 73 Holden HQ Monaro or Ford Falcon xb gt Hardtop and drive around the use. I'm Australian by the way

are you shooting IR?
Yep!
Why the vegetation is white? Some camera stuff? Or a glitch in the Matrix? kkk
It's shot with an infrared camera.
Why didn’t you paint the car white?
I like it black.

LS swap peeps denounce old vintage motors that they ain't reliable, very thirsty engines..what a pathetic LS society ruined the old muscles with their pro touring mods!! I love old engines, they are mighty, can't take a beating and never disappoint to give you satisfaction..
