Actually it does. It was after Charlottesville that trump was asked if he would denounce white supremacy and he replied that there were, "very fine people on both sides". And it was later during a presidential debate with Joe Biden that he was again asked if he would denounce white supremacist groups such as the Proud Boys, in reaction to his words after Charlottesville that he made the statement for the Proud Boys to, "stand back and stand by" that in retrospect was obviously in reference to their actions on the January 6th insurrection at the Capitol following his rally in DC.
