Fun fact. That full sized Bee prop from 2007 is now on permanent display at the Children's Museum of Indianapolis. He is the first exhibit you see when you enter the building. He is currently mounted on a turn table and would rotate so guests could see him from all angles. I am unaware if he still rotates or not. But I do know that they dress him up for holidays like Halloween and Christmas.

There’s an ad for Transformers 2010 (the Japanese version of G1 S3, I think) where a group of helicopters lift a dead Prime as a crowd chant “CONVOY!!!” I think that ad may be the first live-action appearance of G1 Prime, predating this show. That ad fascinates me more than any ad for the franchise, past or present.

I remember watching Season 5, although I was not aware that it was known as Season 5. Yes, I did watch the show when Tommy was there hanging out with Optimus Prime as Prime would tell him the stories of each episode, and thinking how cool it would be to have Optimus Prime telling you his experiences battling Megatron and the Decepticons. As a matter of fact, Season 5 was the time I had seen THE TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE for the first time as a 5 part episode, where each episode would be as a to be continued, like the first episode ended with Megatron saying, “Their defenses are broken. Let the slaughter begin!”, and the second ending with Cliffjumper saying, “Jazz, we’re not getting away!”, and so on and so forth. But yeah, I do remember watching Season 5 with those cool intros.

Crazy fact, Jason Jansen almost died on set when he was near the Optimus prime puppet arm for a shot but moved to eat at a table which very soon
The arm fell and crash where Jason was standing a few moments ago, it’s insane how Optimus Prime almost killed a kid and Jason would probably never look at Optimus the same afterwards

I hate it when people boil it down to like a "nostalgia fetish" when its not mfs begging for everything to be g1, but rather just that bay himself single handedly and completely sucked the life out of all the transformers ESPECIALLY the decepticons. and the movies are all just the autobots fucking around until optimus prime gets his ass beat then he one shots the villian last minute. but the knightverse portrays the characters really well to their origin (apart from bumblebee but bay bumblebee is the only good thing that sadsack made so)

To be fair, Transformers is an "insert series name" obsession if you use your logic to it. Everyone has their favorite part of the franchise, whether it's G1, Animated or even IDW comics. We shouldn't just boggle it down to an obsession because of a vocal minority of fans.

    • @powermasterjazz

    • @Grim2
      @Grim2 16 днів тому +4

"I’ll never really understand the G1 obsession outside of collective nostalgia"
Because it's something that greatly contributed to making our childhoods great. There's nothing ultra complex, nothing to be baffled about. And there ain't no collective nostalgia because we went on for YEARS without even knowing just how popular the show was across the globe. We kept liking and keep liking it because... we like it.
It's a show that ORGANICALLY gained following, didn't need the hype machinery that is the internet, didn't need any influencers telling us what to think about it. It simply appealed to us who are into action, adventure and sci-fi.

That first transformers movie always stood out as having the best looking effects even today, at least out of the first 4 movies, and that’s largely due to the effort of having a mix of in camera effects and cg. Same reason why the first Jurassic park still looks incredible

Keep up the good work dude. I think what keeps your videos entertaining is your down to earth perspective. I'll watch a PrimeVsPrime video and, while its informative, the guy comes off as a bit of a robot himself. Your approach to content just feels more personal and it connects with viewers easier I think.
One of my favorite videos was the one where you and your friends went to a bunch of stores looking for a Concept Megatron. It was fun because I do that myself like every 1-2 weeks but I'm alone as I don't have anyone my age that's also into hunting Transformers. I'd like more videos like that personally, its got that dopamine hit of "oooh what do you think we'll find today guys?" kinda feel.
Anyways love the stuff so far, I rarely skip a video. Keep it up. Happy holidays!

when you say HUGE you're right, like way out of scale .. I used to watch this as a kind and my cousin drove a 70's White-Freightliner COE(the truck that Optimus Prime is) so I even knew it then.. just look at the size of the cab lights, when in real life you can hold the lens cover in your hand.. his little brother and me were BEST FRIENDS so we got into trouble a few times climbing on that truck.. one thing I really find cool with the behind the scenes is the eyes.. we always thought they were done with early CGI (which was new and catching on)or painted in lights like was done in Star Wars and Ghostbusters blasters

I remember watching this when I was a kid about Tommy's age (the stonewashed denim and other outfits and hair, is hilarious nostalgia. I remember watching it on the original Sci-Fi channel, early early in the morning for me (5am mountain time) and Sci-Fi channel would play this weird countdown thing before or when they were off the air...
It was kind of this eye thing, I remember it freaking my Religious parents out because nobody knew what it was, just a weird eye thing and weird music.
Old Sci-Fi at the very beginning was pretty awesome. Transformers played in a whole block of cartoons and kids shows that included old 60s puppet sci-fi. I specifically remember a show called Stingray about a submarine, that had a really cool theme song. "Stingrayyy... STINGRAY!!" lol - It was a cool time.
I remember thinking how awesome it would be to be Tommy, and how cool the digital and puppet effects were - I think I remember wanting a giant Optimus in my house when I grew up or something... Ohhh to be 11 again, the last true year of childhood.

I´ve always lamented the lack of a live-action Star Wars/ET-like movie made in the 80s in the style of Steven Spielberg, whenever I see 80s movies I often recognize things that could've been used in a film and I just think that it would have made a great cinematic experience but I am also grateful for the live-action movie franchise we have today. When I learned a couple of years ago about this live-action puppet I fell in love with it, especially because the Powermaster version of Optimus is my personal favorite G1 variant of the character, I also happened to come across some pictures of the costumes made for some Japanese school presentations, knowing that in the 80´s some kids had a visit from Ginrai and Starsaber is the most wholesome thing and I just wish I could hunt the Ginrai costume down and own it as my holy grail.

This was the only way I was able to watch the 1986 Transformers The Movie. It wasn't in theaters in my area. It wasn't available for VHS rental or purchase. I set our VCR to record it in the 5 part episodes they broke it up in, along with Tommy and Power Master Optimus. What sucked is that my local channel would often preempt the The Transformers broadcast with local high school sports. So, I was missing a couple episodes. Hence, I didn't get to see the movie in its entirety until a couple years later when I was able to find it on VHS. Kids today don't know the struggle!! 😄

They got the scale wrong, but it still looked really cool. I would totally watch a Transformers movie done with a mix of puppets and CG. Done properly, it would be cool as hell.

It's still weird how they built this life sized Optimus head, chest and hand to advetise the toys, but Powermaster Optimus still did not make it in the cartoon.

G.I.Joe did something similar not with a puppet but with a handful of episodes featuring new intros with Sgt. Slaughter to freshen their syndicated episodes.

I always have an idea to make a live-action Transformers tv show and title it as "Transformers More Than Meets The Eye"

Surprised that Bayverse designs are so popular. As far as mecha are concerned they've always been a 6 pack of ass. Beast Machines tier. I wouldn't have wanted to see this but more of the Bee Movie forward stuff

I want to say the Michael bay movies are not live fully action because its uses so much CGI so its more accurately a CGI enhanced or CGI assisted live action!
Edit: Bumblebee and Frenzy (when they're the puppets) are live action!

it is really, really annoying to me that instead of expanding the definition of 'animation' outside of the first things brainless people think of.. they just expanded the definition of 'live action' so those people wouldn't have to think.
