When my lease ran out on my 2018 Subaru STI, I bought a 10 year old RAV4 and am much happier having a car with no payments than I was about having a nicer car.
Being debt free is amazing. When I turned 40, ten years ago I decided it was time to dump consumer (credit card) debt once and for all. I owed around 30,000 , I went in spending lockdown for about 3 and a half years - buying only the barest necessities. I tell you it was an amazing feeling to be rid of that albatross once and for all. I still ask myself 2 questions before buying things now - Do I really need this & will this enhance my life? I do not deny myself very often and buy only quality items. Living this way really works for me and let me tell you have saved so much money and am never broke anymore. Good luck to you. Also, you will probably have more fun with the Miata than the Audi.
Well done, acadian76. And congratulations. I'm with you. The idea is to live debt free, yet without denying ourselves pleasures, and yes, to never worry when you slap that debit card down.
First love your channel!! Thank you! Second, my wife and I got debt free in full this month! You are giving great advice! It takes time but agree it’s the best decision ever! At 50, I finally became debt free and bought my first house! Thank you for helping me and many others live our best life in fashion and many other areas! Thank you!
Great job changing the perspective of bein in debt. The creditor has always been a “bad wolf” to have hanging around. I changed my views years ago and live well below my means. Folks may think your “spartan” lifestyle is odd but I sleep well knowing I’m financially sound. Good luck to you John and please keep the updates coming. You always “knock it out of the park.”
I'm still driving my 2006 nissan. It works pretty good and even when it looks "old" and does not have any tech I have not bought a new one cause I wanted to pay my college debts first. Being debt free is an amazing feeling
Living within one's means is so liberating!! It took my wife and me many years through a lot of denial before we finally caught up to our "means" but it has been worth it. At the same time, we have to enjoy life's journey because you don't want to deny yourself experiences and a few adult playthings along the way.
Debt free. Made the decision, at 20k in debt. Took FOUR YEARS !! BUT GOOD. Free of stress for 20+ years. Wonderful. "If I can't afford it, don't want it."
Another great video. As I mentioned in my comments on your last video, I have just managed to get rid of my credit card debt after a divorce four years ago. I have just begun to lease a car now with the credit card gone. It’s an empowering feeling.
I am leasing an Audi eTron Sportback. There is a significant demand for EVs that the dealership is willing to pay me 8k if I return it. The problem is I really love the car 🤔
Awesome John glad it worked out for you. My car is paid off in July, the dealer wants it in as a trade as mileage is very low but no thanks will keep it and move the payment over to pay down debt
I had my student loan debt boot on my neck for my late 20’s, 30’s, and early 40’s. Tried a few house investments that failed. Went from over $180k in total debt, cars, credit cards, student loans. I bought a 2020 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon decked out in November 2019 as my beater Mazda Tribute stranded me for the 3rd time. I justified all these purchases and vacations too, but I was stressed and miserable. I paid all my debt off including my truck. Zero debt, savings in the bank (not much, but a start), and maxing my 401k out now with some small side investments. I don’t dress fancy, but watch your channel to enter my 50’s next year to get some style back and ditch the tennis shoes. Debt just kills people drive and motivation. I’m much happier now.
I think this is a great move John. My wife and I have been debt free for the last three years. It will relieve tons of stress in your life. We followed the Dave Ramsey principles for Financial Peace. God Bless!
Yep, smart move. That's one less registration and insurance cost too. I call it 'plugging up the leaks' - fixing all those areas in your life where money is 'leaking' out unnecessarily.
Good move for getting rid of it. You bought this in 2020, which is the same year you posted a video saying you were literally broke after pissing away a 500K trust fund? You gotta get that spending under control bro! This is a good first step.
I'm sure it's too late now, but did you check to see what you could sell it for to some of the online services, like Carvana? They're offering big dollars - likely more than what you got from your Audi dealer. That said, being able to take that $900 a month and put it toward your other debt is not only smart, but motivating. I enjoy the channel and the free-form thoughts while driving is a nice change. Well done, sir.
Thx Johnny-O for sharing that tidbit. I’m on a personal crusade myself to pay down debt before I retire in 2025 (May 1). I’m halfway there with 3 years left so I’m in good standing so far. It’s amazing how little money I’ve lived on since I had a mortgage, credit card, auto payment and so on. Now that the auto is paid off and 1/2 of the credit card was paid last month and my “new “ mortgage will be paid off in August of 2023 and I have quite a pocketful of extra cash. It feels luxuriously secure and I love it!
Congratulations on lowering debt load. You may find this step puts you on different path of frugality/minimalism, giving yourself opportunity to focus on more valuable aspects in life. Enjoy yourself Jon.
Great idea to help reduce credit card debt. Before the pandemic, considered buying a Mazda Miata. As being it would of been my only vehicle, decided against due to lack of storage space. Just something to keep in mind, John.
There’s no feeling like being debt free all I have is my mortgage, I have a car and a pickup that are both paid off and NO credit card debt. That’s when a man becomes focused, mature and experienced in his life when you begin to make wise decisions. Good idea John it’s all about life being on easy mode.
Great move John, doing the same for a friend of mine with a Jag F type. It's sat on the drive and he has another car. Saving the money and being debt free feels amazing. You still have a sports car too.
Life is so much more enjoyable debt free,... I hope you get there soon!! I used to drive a Ranger Rover and now I drive a Ford Escape, but, my house is almost paid for and that's the end goal. I did like this video!!
If you don't need to transport anything of size, having just the Miata & losing the CC debt will be great. You will have so many more options when the auto shortage is over and you are debt free.
John, I really enjoyed this video. It felt personal, unpretentious, genuine. It was as if we were having a dialogue because I silently had a verbal exchange with you. I believe you are doing what is responsible by relinquishing you Audi. It makes perfect sense and you are practicing what you preach. Just imagine the savings and what you could do with it. Well done…as usual.
Financially, this strategy makes a great deal of sense John. However, as you know, the MX-5 has very limited trunk storage and room for only one passenger. Given your work needs and personal life style requirements, is this move even doable?
@@40OverFashion You can always rent a vehicle that serves any specific need that might come up. You almost certainly can even rent another Audi SUV if the need arises. We tend to have a couple trips to Disneyland each year where we need a car that seats eight. I'm very happy to pony up the $500.00 to rent a gigantic SUV twice a year instead of paying $80K for the equivalent as a purchase, keep insurance on it, and have a primary transportation vehicle that gets 13 MPG day in & day out.
In Mach 2021, I leased a Bolt Premier EV for $289 a month. It's 44k car. But you are paying way too much for a 3. And a new windshield for me is $750 with 2 cameras and radar. Get a new estimate for the windshield. Audis with the 2.0Tsi have many problems after 3 years. Audi had to redesign the timing chain tensioner twice. So I would dump the Audi and stay away from German cars.
Loved your video. Well-reasoned. I was surprised it was a wash, but although you didn’t walk away with cash, you’ll have $900 more every month, and that’s a win!
Paying debt is great but what about retirement? That might be top of mind for someone at your age. Just my two cents and if you don’t agree, no worries.
I enjoyed this style of video, I'm catching up with some of your previous content as a relatively new subscriber, well done on the channel, I've already suggested it to my twin brother and an ex-colleague.

I love driving around, as my day job is inside. So, seeing you relaxing and running your mouth on whatever, I can relate to.
It's a good idea to speak your mind about a variety of things that would help the audience about day to day activities. Doing so is real. So as long as you concentrate on your driving. Keep up the good work. I enjoy your videos. Many good tips.
I never understood the financial gain of leasing a vehicle. I've always purchased mine and kept them for about 8-10 years and then sold them or traded them for a new one.

Best way to pay off the credit cards is to take a standard loan. The % you pay on your credit cards will always be substantially higher than in a standard loan.

I've been divorced about as long as I've been watching your channel (3 years). I bought her out and kept the family house up in Northern California. In that time I've made back all the $$ I had to pay her out in my house value going up. I have no credit card debt and pay cash for everything. I'm slowly fixing up my house, new roof, paint, laminate flooring etc. Cars aren't everything, unless you live in southern California...lol. Ditch both of those vehicles and go get a Toyota Tacoma D-Cab. They are nice and smooth, go anywhere, and have a luxury feel inside. Good resale value too. You don't need performance when all you do is sit in traffic... 😂
Why does a single guy need two cars especially when he’s trying to get rid of his debt or greatly reduce it? I leased a Q3 for three years and I loved the car but decided not to buy it at the end of the lease because the monthly payment was too high. I hope you enjoy the Miata those have always looked like a lot of fun to drive, especially the manual transmission ones.
Friend to friend John. It makes no sense to run 2 vehicles when you are making payments to get your credit card debt down. Unload this expense and get control of your finances.
Have the same year Q3 and my lease will be up in Nov 2023. At that point the car will only have about 14k miles My buyout at lease end is only 22k so I would be nuts not to buy it . But if I did decide to sell it I could probably make at least 10K. Timing is everything in this crazy car market.
Great choice! You're right on track to a Grand Debt Free future and you won't be sorry! I've been following the financial teachings of Dave Ramsey and my life has improved tenfold! Im currently reading Dave's book Baby Steps Millionaires How Ordinary People Built Extraordinary Wealth-and How You Can Too Bless you, Brother
Yesssss! Roughly 3 years ago I decided to get my finances under control. I went from constant debt and anxiety to debt free, a 777 credit score and peace of mind. Financial freedom is the ultimate status symbol. Good luck on your journey!
Leasing for $750 per month seems wayyyyy high. And then another $150 per month for insurance just on this car? Not the best plan when you already have a vehicle. Do you own a home? Do you have dependents? Are you saving for retirement? Do you have an 8 month emergency fund of liquid cash? Yes, turn this vehicle in STAT and start saving. Good luck.
I agree with clearing up debt and getting financially sound. Going from Audi Q3 is a good idea. But going to a small car will come back to a decision to go to a sedan. Once you want to do something you will need that type of car. I owned a small car for a while, after having it and thinking about it. I changed to a sedan, so I could get thing done around the House and yard.
Bro you lead to this question , do I need all those cars and trucks I have? (2 trucks personal, 1 sports car, 1 wifes SUV and 2 work vehicles) and I came to conclusion that I still need the Corvette!!!!, lol,,,,, I'm on the waiting list for the stingray electric metallic . I'm debt free totally house and I paid cash for my trucks .. I'm blessed
@@40OverFashion Hey brother!!!, good morning, I'm actually catching up on your videos, I love that red porche you rented, but anyways yes, the c8 is beautiful, they have a 2 years waiting list, or for an additional premium of 12k I could get it in aprox 6 months but naaaa I can do more experiences with that money .
Good video John! Sometimes, it’s tough to let go of something you really like, but I think you’ll appreciate the lightness that comes with having fewer debts. You can always rent an SUV for days when you need a bigger car. 😎
Pay down that debt! Credit card interest rates suck. Work to where you can eventually pay your credit cards off in full every month. That way, they pay the interest (for a month) and not you. Then don't finance a car purchase. Save up and pay cash. Now I don't know your business, but maybe you can deduct the car, then a lease can sometimes make sense. The only good debt is for something that appreciates faster than the interest rate on that debt, or at least provides some other cost-saving, like real estate which can give you a place to live without paying rent. I hear you're visiting Seattle soon. That's where I live.

Sometimes they don't or can't buy a car depending on the lease company. Quite a few are not allowing 3rd parties to buy out a lease.
Purely from a financial point of view, leasing a car is usually never a good idea. I learned this after reading the Millionaire Next Door book.

You're right on track to a Grand Debt Free future and you won't be sorry!
I've been following the financial teachings of Dave Ramsey and my life has improved tenfold! Give him a listen to and see if he might be of help to you too...

Thanks Rick!
Yesssss! Roughly 3 years ago I decided to get my finances under control. I went from constant debt and anxiety to debt free, a 777 credit score and peace of mind. Financial freedom is the ultimate status symbol. Good luck on your journey!
Thank you!
Smart decision, John. I hope the deal went through.
All done!

Fashion and life discussion. Absolutely. Like you said. It can’t always be about jeans, shoes and sweaters.
Smart move John.
Thanks Scott
Bro, im going through the same except im trying to buy 2022 Audi Q3
Leasing for $750 per month seems wayyyyy high. And then another $150 per month for insurance just on this car? Not the best plan when you already have a vehicle. Do you own a home? Do you have dependents? Are you saving for retirement? Do you have an 8 month emergency fund of liquid cash? Yes, turn this vehicle in STAT and start saving. Good luck.
Yes to this type of Video...
Thank you!
Cool. Video John. I remember you. Picking that Audi. Up. We’re did those 2 years. Go. Keep the videos coming 👍🏻
Thank you!
Wise decision. Good vid 👍
Thank you Mark!
You don't have to sell it back to audi john ,try selling it other places!
Congrats on the Miata. Zoom zoom!
Thank you!
I'm blessed
The new C8 is nice!
Exactly!
This was cool. You're making a great decision
Thank you!
Being debt free is an amazing feeling and once your get there you will never, ever want to go back.
Thanks Shawn!
I get the debt thing, but why give up a car that seats 4 people to keep a car that seats 2 with only 130 litres of boot space?
That would be a good financial move. Your next SUV hopefully might be a Q7 God willing.
That would be nice!
great to keep the reliable one and get rid of the endless money pit. yes I m fan of Scotty too ha ha
Great decision John 👏
Thanks for watching Andy!
Great video! Sad to see Q3 go over a miata. I guess a red convertible... I won't continue ;) I also drive a Q3 but prev. gen. Love that thing )
Enjoy the sprinkling off this kind of content! Keep it up.👍🏼🍻
Thank you!
Thank you for commenting! I hope to be up that way in June.
