To have to make a decision about Harper ... one of the hardest ... I cried with you . Happily she is on the mend !! I had 3 loves of my life kitties one who lived to be 20 years old. Your garden is truly amazing !! So happy for you both .

I was in tears thinking lil Harper wouldn’t make it, but bless her AND you for opting for the surgery. As a cat lover, I cried more tears of relief on hearing she was recovering at home. Grueling time for you, but upside is the garden looks spectacular!! Congrats on all the hard work Kyle and Ally. Your garden is absolutely beautiful! I’m so glad Harper pulled through her surgery! I saw you crying and I lost it! I lost my Rosie girl at 4 months old. Almost same thing but hers was a heart defect. We spent a lot of money but she was to sick. 😢 I got both her and her brother so I could have litter mates. Breaks my heart he doesn’t have her anymore. Now my daughter had a cat and my cat and hers got along great now she moved out so he lost another companion! I will get him another friend.

Get humane traps, catch those little buggers and set them free far away from your home, because they will find their way back. You can tape cotton balls saturated with peppermint oil behind picture frames, where cats cannot get them as well as other places. Maybe you can get creative with two- sided tape for this project. Get the plug ins that make sounds mice hate, and they will want to get out of your house but the sound won't harm your pets ears. You can put cotton balls in places where your cats cant go with the oils in it too. I hope these suggestions help. I am so glad you got that camera as well to keep the real pests out. Take care. Ally ... lavender essential oil immediately on a burn works like a charm. You don't get that blister, it's soothing and heals quickly. From someone who continually burns herself, it is amazing.
Oh I have heard lavender oil is miraculous with healing, scars too I think :)
Great build Ally, but more importantly so relieved Harper is on the mend & you & Kyle made the financial decision to let the ER Vet do what they needed to do. Also, fantastic idea to do the video recaps to explain the back story of your channel.

We're starting to build up our homestead this year as well (and also filming the process)! Up to now I always had to work with what I got when renting an apartment with a garden (which was nice and good to learn!), but next year I hope to be able to set up a garden that is completely like I imagine it to be!

I heard a Ovenbird at the opening and a Phoebe later. The owl sounds like a Barred Owl and from the loud background tapping at 19:17 you may have had a large Pileated Woodpecker looking for food in tree bark.

I love garden ,gardening, plants, flowers, vegetables, fruit-trees, yes all that grow. I have for ten year had my own house and garden. Sometimes I wish I had help, but it is so satisfaction to do it by my self, so I guess you will relax in your garden even that spring is a very busy time, but I love spring, summer is to hot for me, and in the winter, I hibernate

Oh my goodness, poor little Harper ❤️That’s a lot for a kitten to deal with but she is a strong little kitty with a loving family. You guys have had a rough week on top of being sick but you’re doing a great job on your land and your garden. It looks like there’s plenty of deadwood laying on the forest floor for you guys to keep your woodpile well stocked for a long time.

Hey Ally, just a thought when you were mentioning wanting to keep your lawn a lush meadow instead of mowing in the spring. Maybe you could create pockets of meadowscape on dedicated parts of your lawn with native species for bird and pollinators. This is something we used to do for folks when I worked in garden design. I know how tough the ticks can be when you just let the whole yard grow. New kitten is adorable and the garden is out of this world!

Thank you for sharing that less than sunny aspects of life. My Grandmother always said everything always comes in threes before it clears and it seems that was the case for you. I'm glad that Harper is okay and also that the leveler didn't hit your head badly. I gasped when it fell thinking omg she doesn't need another injury. The garden is beautiful and it will be wonderful to see how it blossoms and grows with you.

I understand your emotions toward sweet little Harper so deeply... A handful of years ago, I had one particularly special kitten in a litter from a stray. His name was Belly, he was born with a bit of a swollen belly, but it wasn't of much concern at the time considering he seemed to have a little pot belly from indulging in milk. He was such a sweet, loving, intelligent little guy. I felt a special connection with him. But when he got to be about 4 months old, his belly got much bigger out of nowhere.
I took him to the vet only to discover he had an intestinal issue where they would somehow get knotted up and couldn't process food properly.. when they told me he needed emergency surgery, I told them to do whatever they needed to. I couldn't afford the $4,000 price tag, but it didn't matter to me. Like you, I felt he deserved a fighting chance. After a long and terrifying night, he survived the surgery and I took him home. But days later, he wasn't looking well... I found him laying on the floor, very lethargic. I took him to an emergency vet to figure out the issue. But they told me he wasn't going to make it. I had to make the decision to have him put down, and I was sure to hold him during his final moments. It was one of the most excruciating moments of my entire life, but I will never regret doing anything I could to at least give him a chance.
I'm over the moon to know she's okay, you guys did the right thing for your family member. I can't wait to see her grow up with Mow and enjoy the peaceful oasis you've created in the hills. So much love for you all. ♥️
