Thank you to everyone who joined the premiere!!
The amount of effort that the crew puts in for production is incredible. Jonathan and the crew are truly one of its kind.
This really puts into perspective how much work goes into making such a great episode. I’m sorry I always comment about wanting another episode so soon. I’ll refrain from here on out. Can’t wait till the next episode. 😂
🤣
Dear Blue World Team: Thank you!! I am a professional cello player, and you guys INSPIRE me!!!!! Wonderful wonderful job!!!! Love to all of you from Florence, Italy ❤❤❤
Wow. Just wow. I started watching you guys back when you had a few thousand subscribers, and I'm so proud of how far you've come. This show has been a big part of my childhood. I must have been 12 when I stumbled across your video on basking sharks and I haven't stopped watching you since. Jonathan, you've taught me so much more than anything I learned at school. You made me get my diving certification, and now I hope to dive around the world!
I wish more people discover your channel. You deserve WAY more than 1 million subs.
Love you guys :)
Thanks so much and congratulations on the scuba cert!
How do they have over a million subs but only 10k views on this video?
Great episode! Love seeing all the setup that this production takes. You guys and gals don't just jump in the water and film stuff. There's a plan, a strategy, and a fair amount of luck involved. It's hard to believe all of this is brought to us for free.
The amount of work poured into every single video is amazing! That's one thing I've always loved about BlueWorld; no matter how large or small the episode is, it always has the same level of detail and production value. I love behind the scenes stuff like this!
Thanks Ray! We try to make every episode as good as it can be.
Vlog style Blue World is what we all need. This was great and I want to see more!
Fascinating…… I’m amazed at how much work goes into each episode. Thanks…❤
Love the behind the scenes and seeing all the work and different parts! I also wanted to tell you how much I appreciate that you do the transcript and make sure it’s as accurate as possible. I’m not hearing impaired but I have a hard time watching videos and picking up what people are saying when it’s videos. I also can’t always have the volume up high so I’m able to turn down the volume and read instead. That courtesy for people who are hearing impaired or who do have trouble understanding is just very much appreciated.
I know this one doesn’t have a non autogenerated transcript but I’m just glad the main ones do. You tend to speak very clearly so I don’t have much difficulty with your channel. Other channels are harder
Yeah this one was too much to transcribe!! LOL! Voice recognition, good luck!!!
Nice to see a live in the blue world 🌎🌍
Hi Jonathan! I just checked your website (before I found this BTS episode) and what an incredible team you have there! Coming from different backgrounds (academics and professions) but share the same passion in underwater world.
And Cameraman Todd is an attorney? And there's only 1 actual marine biologist? 👏👏👏👏👏 What a colourful team!
So much respects to every single one of you 🙏 Thank you for making this show available on this platform for everyone to enjoy 🤍
We are all people drawn together by a love of the underwater world.
Welp, I finally did it, I took the first step to get my open water scuba certification. Going to work on the online classes when I have my days off, then come mid August, I'll have my first dive, though in a pool. A week later, my open water dives. And I have you to thank, for getting me more interested with every video to finally get me to take the plunge, so to speak. My excitement is immeasurable, to think of the massive world that will open up to me in doing this. Thank you, Jonathan Bird, for showing me this Blue World, and maybe one day I'll see you out there!
Congratulations! That's awesome!!
This was a fantastic look into what you do to make videos for us and i want to say a big thank you to all of you guys, i greatly appreciate it.
My childhood was made by you. I always love watching you, explode, those caves and sharks. thank you for making seven year old me happy😊
Thank you so much for making this! As an aspiring Scuba UA-camr this was really nice to see. Also, having no background in film, it was great to have some of my production/post process ideas validated. I don’t actually know what I’m doing 😂
We homeschool and in our co-op/tutorial we watch several episodes! Thank you so much!! We will probably show this one as well for appreciation!
Blue World Team truly deserves more recognition! Please keep up the great work!
Thanks!
As lots of others have said, WOW. Thanks for putting this together, it’s cool to see how much work and effort goes into your videos.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Glad to see the process-applause to the entire team!
THE Bruce Zimmerman! Fascinating to see some of the thought processes behind everything, it was a great episode... your cave diving episodes have really helped me as a northeasterner to appreciate Florida more in general. The editing in the little seven second opening of the episode was wonderful, made for a very exciting and intriguing beginning. Loved the music as always, such a big part of the show...
Glad you enjoyed it!
And WOW! That's amazing and mind blowing how much goes into this process. I had absolutely no idea. What a marvelous team you have, they're all so impressive in their areas. I'm most fascinated by Bruce's ability to translate from what we are visually experiencing, into such beautifully composed music pieces. Thank you again for a wonderful experience.
Thanks for watching!
The camera shots are incredible! Absolutely amazing, almost feels like your there 👍🏽
Amazing job!! The entire process behind the scene is so impressive and beyond my imagination (For example, I didn't expect the scoring things)!
Holy cow, I had no idea you all put this much into each episode. First class all the way around! 🤯 🤙🏼
Oh my god this is so artistic and professional. Thank you for so much effort put into a few minutes of video. I love the channel and now I love it even more!
All the hard work for a video that is less than 15 min. Keep up the good work!! Always looking forward to your next episode. :)
We like to allow the episodes to be whatever length they need to be.
I'm currently in school for underwater welding. You "sparked" my interest in everything underwater 👃
I see what you did there!! 🤣
Wow! That is a LOT going into one episode! And a lot of people involved as well! It must cost a lot in production I would say hahaha. I'm doing everything all by myself and I use already made music for my videos. Just a different reality! Hehe. Thanks for sharing this process!
Amazing the amount of effort that goes into one of these videos, makes me appreciate it even more!!!
Jonathan, you all rock! Loved the behind the scenes of an awesome show! Best regards, Cheryl P. J
Thanks!!
Excellent. Positive feed back from a ex BBC filming crew.
MAD RESPECT TO HOW MUCH EFFORT IS GIVEN FOR THESE VIDEOSS
been watching your content from the 2016, back then it's about shark, and wow i feel like i'm on adventure too watching the bts video!
Wow ! Now, that's very interesting ! From mehdi at the dive to zimmy at the music, there's a lot of people involved in the making of an episode!
And it sure seems like it's taking a looong time to produce them 😶
Really liked this, made me realise how hard you guys are working !
Keep it up ❤
Thanks!
as usual, a very good stuff from you guys, and, we got to see Jonathan gets bored of doing boring things hahahaha, and my greetings to the Great Bruce Zimmerman the Great composer of the all great soundstruck that i really really love!!! Great job Bruce, and Great job all BlueWorld's team Love from Tunisia
Be careful calling him the GREAT Bruce Zimmerman. It's going to go to his head!
this is really a great episode jonathan...thanks for highlighting the efforts of the crew behind these incredible videos...always a fan of your videos 😀
Glad you enjoyed it!
I absolutely love this!!
Thanks team. Awesome to see this.
What a great episode! Thanks for sharing that!
The passion and professionalism of you and your team it’s inspiring… It was great to meet and talked to you in Cozumel.
You too!
AMAZING VIDEO, I'm soo glad you guys did this. I've always wondered how you guys put these videos together.
Outstanding! Great episode!
That was awesome. Great job to everyone.
Incredible effort. Super inspiring!
Thank you very much to brought that out ! It's always interesting to see the craftsmanship of the team. And it's so great that you have your own composer ! We already see him in previous video but I think that's a really important aspect of the creation. Thank you to take us with you in your exploration of the blue world !
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the insight and good luck with the episode!
Thank you Jonathan, as I am starting to make my own wildlife documentaries it is fantastic to see that seasoned professionals still grind away.
There is no way around it....making good videos requires a lot of effort shooting, writing, editing, etc.
@@BlueWorldTV I also find myself a but anxious starting the editing but excitement. A lot of self doubt with presenting them aswell
Yeah, I've watched some of the PBS shows that NSF had helped fund. Which was what lead me to knowing them. I really like and miss a few of those shows they've helped fund. I just hope the cast for all those and other shows on PBS, kids, are staying safe and healthy with being good.
It was amazing to see how professionals work! Thank you for sharing this video! Great content once again, as always!
Hello jonathan,
you might know me from my past when I used to look at your videos as a small child
Now, i'm bigger and my lungs are good enough to be a certified scuba diver
Because of your videos i've pursued my dreams of becoming a scuba diver, and i've finished my course a few weeks ago.
I just wanted to say, if it wasn't for you, I probably wouldn't be a scuba diver, so thank you.
That's so great to hear!! Congratulations!!
Thanks for showing just how much work it takes you and the Blue World team to make these beautiful dives come to life! And what a pleasure to watch Bruce at work, I've always thought his scores were amazing but the talent he has and the knowledge of all the equipment is just next level! Have you ever lost the footage from a dive you guys have done before you were able to back it up?
Only once. We did have a card from our Palau trip that somehow didn't get backed up...and we lost an entire segment. We were shooting those episodes on the RED camera because we were there to shoot some IMAX stuff and I didn't want to take two camera systems. The Red cards are so expensive, that we only have a couple of them. So you can't go the whole week without formatting the card. Hence, if the card doesn't get backed up before you erase the footage from the previous day, it's gone.
@@BlueWorldTV oh man!
Subtitles are very important for those of us watching the videos while pretending to work in the office 😂 jokes aside, subs are great when watching videos in public
Keep making more!
I really really like this
Wow this is soo Awesome! now im also taking the diving course, and would be awesome if I could do a dive with you sometime, Ive been watching you for a while and the editing and EVERYTHING Is amazing So Ya'll did a good job on that and Im Impressed on how you do and can afford that stuff! but one of my wishes are to scuba dive with a celebrity! Have a good day!
Love your channel!! Thanks for turning my interest in scuba into an obsession 😅 Getting my advanced because of you!!
Awesome to hear!!!
Great video! A lot of Work goes into making Awesome Videos and Blue 🌎’s videos are ALWAYS INTERESTING and Awesome, Fantastic! From watching Blue 🌎 I’ve learned a lot about animals and little creatures in the ocean 🌊 I Really Love 💕 the episodes with Mantas and the Stories about them on your other channel. 👍🏻👍🏻. Love Blue 🌎!!! 💙
Thank you very much!
I think you all have to be some of the top underwater videographers! Everything is so beautiful, even caving seems backlit with just torches by amazing cave diving teams when, most respectfully, so much requiring attention is happening at the same time. These same divers are comfortable diving with you, and more than once, which speaks VOLUMES about you as a diver yourself! Just gorgeous and dynamic! And your personality is shining, beautiful, your love for the wonder you’re experiencing is just amazing!
A personal fave was with Gus and Woody… uh, no bias at all, I swear! I know they have stories with Mehdi as well!
Lastly, I know you work your a$$es off! I absolutely LOVED the behind the scenes for Ancient Caves and everything that went into it! I lived in AZ and made far too many summer drives through Death Valley where I wished for… well… Not a fan, HOWEVER, I have a sweet spot for the pup fish, they are my favorite little guys . I love you dove the cave just a bit beyond! AMAZING! And such a unique cave! Truly!
Subbed to both channels!
Thanks for subbing!!
@@BlueWorldTV I’d be a fool not to!💙💙💙
I'm ok with long videos i love them
Ahoy there!
WOW! You are professional. I really enjoyed this "how it's made" episode. I hardly ever write comments so this one counts as two:)
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for commenting!
Interesting to watch, we share a lot of things in common, the composing music part surprised me, it's a deluxe touch :). I have to do edit some times depending on the music choice.
Main difference is I do(was) all by myself but there's something that can't figure out how you guys can produce, where the money come from?! I had to stop because of that (38k on YT...).
It's the finance part that I'm intrigue because the gear, travel, ain't cheap. I don't see sponsor (I said no to that side) and the channel itself is not generating enough money to cover the production. So how do you keep running?
The channel generates the operating budget but but the salaries.
That's a lot, & all those early starts!!! PHEW!!! Hope you got a lunch, even if it was late...
Cool Video, different, I like it.
Very interesting look behind the scenes. Thanks for this!
As someone who has very amateur and primitive knowledge in editing videos I found this very enlightening.
Glad you enjoyed it!
You are AWESOME
Aw shucks! Thanks!
Amazing video! I loved seeing behind the scenes into your process. Noah is doing a great job! Do you always write the script second to the filming? Do you do any research before a dive? I'd love to see more like this!
No, there are certainly times when I have a really good idea for the story and I partially write it in the field so we can shoot specific things that I want in the episode, particularly places where I start a line in narration and finish it as a piece to camera, or vice-versa. But I rarely write the entire episode in advance because as a general rule we are making a nature show, and you never know what nature will throw at you. So you just don't know where the story goes until after you film it.
We missed the pre-production 😢. Just joking, great work! Love it!
That's a fair point. There is plenty of planning before the shoot.
Sleep was entirely absent in every step of production.
We do sleep, but not very exciting.
From all the dishonest stuff on my media feed lately, this was a breath of fresh air! The question I have is why do you work in your office in a dark room?
Hi Renata! Color grading is better without extra light reflecting off the screen. Editing suites are traditionally rather dark.
They also get hot in water too. When my hands are cold on deco I will use my video lights as hand warmers.
Great video, thanks for the inside :) Just one more question. I myself am always really interested into the logistics of things and wouldve liked a bit more info into how your luggage works out since you take planes. Do you travel with all your scuba gear? How does that work out? Are there complications with what you cant take with you bc of plane regulations? Do you need special travel permits? If yes, is it hard to organize the rest of the gear at destination?
Yes, we generally take everything. We hand-carry the cameras, lights and batteries. We pack the scuba gear and everything else and check it in to the airlines.
Behind of behind the scenes
I'm suprised you don't format your sd cards. I would love to know why bc I always have corrupted files if I DON'T do it.
I've never seen a solid white crawfish before & I see he has no eyes. Guess he doesn't need them in that dark cave. This was an awesome behind the scenes video. Thanks for sharing!
We format them before every shoot so we start with blank cards. And we have enough cards that we can keep going until the shoot is over.
Which cave system was this? It's beautiful!
Here's the episode:

@@BlueWorldTV Thanks!
now I know, I'm sorry, now it's up to you when you upload the video, because I will always be waiting for your new videos
what's the turn around time, from film, edit, narrate, scoring, and ready to go? are noah and zimmy local to you?
Well it varies....but a few weeks as a general rule.
Are these episodes only on youtube?
Blue World airs on television networks around the world as well, but packaged as a half-hour program.
@@BlueWorldTV that's epic, what channel, I want to find it? I didn't know ow because I don't have TV here in philippines
❤❤❤❤❤❤
spot a Gryffindor in there
It looks like someone's been working out
16:40 Gibson Explorer or Custom ESP JH?
It's a Kramer version of the Explorer. We have a number of guitars on the wall at the office but they are not high end expensive guitars. My good guitars are at home in my recording studio where I can play them.
:)😍😍😍

Hello, I would like to ask. Can you do coop Woody and Gus?
We did.
ua-cam.com/video/TW_L-iaQWZ4/v-deo.html
Do you, Jonnathan Bird, ever know of other shows that the National Science Foundation helped fund?
Tons of educational TV shows on PBS
Hey guys! What happened to Zack of all trades?
Zach left the company.
@@BlueWorldTV Aawww hope he is doing well! I liked his TV persona.
Is anyone still chained to a desk?
This week, Noah is chained to the desk and I'm in the Azores with the family!
@@BlueWorldTV epic! Also mind if i ask what is your favourite sea creature? And are you planning on making a video about spider crabs?
I'm surprised that your show is funded by The National Science Foundation. Are you still being funded by them. Every other live action show they help fund has had scuba diving or education.
We were funded by them for one season.
