the grand kids were here for a few days so I had them watch this video with me and we took on the project. (Ages 8 - 13). We made 4, one for each one and we did it all in one sitting. The next day the two boys asked me if they could each make one more. I consider that a complete success!
Great job! Keep up the good work

That is awesome. That's why I started this channel to share what I learned . Thanks for watching 😊 I hope they attract a lot of birds.

Nice, very nice. Love the barnwood roof. Just FYI, that double thickness entry hole is mainly to prevent Starlings from getting inside as well as 4-legged predators. Also, the Eastern Bluebird males will fight one another and it is suggested the boxes be placed 100-150 YARDS apart when creating a bluebird house trail, which a "trail" consists of 2 or more houses. Just thought you might like to know!

Hi Sharon and thanks for the advice! I will move them to to create a trail. Thanks for watching!

Very nice. I would either put one screw on the bottom of the pivot board or use an L cup hook that allows it to pivot without unscrewing anything. I found that the repeated removal of the screw eventually would get stripped. I think this year will have a counter-sunk inset and a small homemade knob.

Good to see someone that has included the elements of safety for the eggs and chicks...good job. Great to see you added the predator block, good ventilation and drainage, an access door and didn't put in the dreaded perch. I monitor several dozen Blue Bird boxes and always add a few kerf saw cuts under the access hole for adults to grip and I also add the kerf cuts inside to help the chicks climb out when they fledge. Cornell Nestwach is an excellent resource everyone should refer to when building bird boxes: nestwatch.org/learn/all-about-birdhouses/features-of-a-good-birdhouse

Very nice instructions, appreciate your walking us through the whole process, I’ve been contemplating building my own bluebird house and you make it look easy, we certainly love our bluebirds which we’ve been dealing with predators of all kinds so I built this in a video called, “How to save bluebird eggs with this!” Keep on keeping on👍

A very good informative video. I always give mine a coat of water based paint which gives them a few years extra life. Thank you.

Great to have Bluebird houses around. I've got loads of them around since I put a couple of boxes out. I've noticed when it gets down pretty cold (15 or so), 4 or 5 birds will pile up inside overnight to stay warm. Keep your boxes cleaned out.

Nice houses. I used a bent 90 degree galvanized nail for my pivot latch. I don't need any tools to clean them that way.

Nice video. Suggest you read up on how far apart Bluebird needs their boxes from other birds, and they like open spaces.
Sure other birds may use the boxes.
    But not all bluebirds.
Your easy real to follow video.

Nice box build. I noticed you used screws instead of brad nails. I have heard some people say they back out. Have you had this issue or you just happened to use screws?

Shoot it all together with your brad gun, then place your screws for a stronger build.Much easier.

Any drip edge on the side bottom? So water doesn't leach inward.

I’m making some bird houses myself. I do have 1 question tho. It’s about making videos on UA-cam. Do they want videos to be a certain length of time. I’ve noticed that most videos I’ve watched seem to be around the 20 minute mark.

Should the back board be longer for attachment

    • @markb8954
      @markb8954 Рік тому +3

Yes. I always have the back board longer than the roof by about 4 inches or so. I drill two holes and thread a piece of wire through the holes and around the tree, hang on fence post, etc. Installation is a breeze like this.

Would this basic concept also work for swallows... perhaps built as a condo with multiple houses for multiple swallows?

I'm sure there's a certain size hole they like. I'm happy to say that I have bluebirds in one of them right now 🤠

Do not mount on trees. Predators climb trees
