- An edition from Guildford Cathedral of the BBC radio series that ran from 1944 to 1994, initially on the Home Service and later on Radio 4; from 1994 to 1997, when it ended, the series was called “Seeds of Faith”. The exact date of the Guildford broadcast is not known, as the Radio Times carried little information about performers, so the date given here is something of an educated guess. The programme features the lay-clerks of Guildford Cathedral under the direction of Philip Moore.
Compline should be sung and broadcast every night 24/7 a lovely service, Thank you
A great comfort in this terrible time of plague. I used to lie in bed and listen as a child.
Should be broadcast every night!
Absolutely beautiful!
The Service of Compline ... so meaningful!
The BBC frequently broadcast Compline in a late evening time slot on Sundays - sometimes they broadcast the 5 part Tallis Litany. we never hear anything like this now - more's the pity.
Quite agree. But you might hear the 5-part Tallis Litany here!
Any chance of uploading it, then?
You can listen to Hereford Cathedral, under Roy Massey, singing Tallis's 5 part Litany ua-cam.com/video/tuebdL_QneI/v-deo.html
Thank you!
And there's the broadcast of Choral Evensong from Ely Cathedral in March 1994, but only part of the Litany is sung. But the service as a whole is magnificent!
Beautiful. Thank you. ❤
Used to enjoy Seeds of Faith. From memory, sometimes it ran for the whole half-hour but occasionally it would be just a quarter-hour and then Compline. I found the topics covered by Seeds of Faith started to change and I lost interest and stopped listening. Tried again later and it had gone altogether.
Where are they finding that version of Compline? It does not appear to be in the BoCP 1662. My Episcopal BoCP has Compline but it is different.
1928 Book of Common Prayer.
Yeah, use the 1928. You can find an online web-page at justus.anglican.org/resources/bcp/1928/EP.htm
