Subfreezing Wind Chill Rocks Rockwork 2

- The Rockwork 2 ocean cliff near Manzanita, Oregon is hit by stiff wind and a subfreezing wind chill during the March 2021 DXpedition (on March 4), rocking the two 6 inch (15cm) FSL antennas set up on their 5 foot (1.52m) PVC bases. Calculated wind chill from the 30 mph wind gusts was 28 degrees F, with live FSL antenna tuning required for all DXing-- wild!

Hi Gary, that's an impressive "manly" DXing effort as always! Braving the elements makes the IDs all the more sweeter, doesn't it!
Have you ever used active noise-cancelling headphones while at the cliffs? I can highly recommend Sony's WH-1000XM3 model. These aren't cheap but the results are superb. I like how they knock down the roar of nearby waves when trying to concentrate on signals near the beach...and they help with the noise of those 18-wheelers on the highway too! I've upgraded my Sony's with thicker after-market earpads for even better isolation and active noise reduction. There's an even newer XM4 version of the headphones but I don't think they offer any advantage for "our" kind of use.

Thanks Guy, noise canceling headphones would have been great, since the howls of the wind were so strong that it was tough to hear the FSL tuning peaks :-) Vicious weather always provides good training on the cliffs, though, so that you can come back prepared for anything the next time!
