- This song tells the story of sightings of the Wild Man of the Himalayas, and of the efforts by the narrator and others to protect him from discovery.
The Yeti (/ˈjɛti/), also known as Meh-Teh in Himalayan folklore, is an ape-like creature purported to inhabit the Himalayan mountain range in Asia.
The Yeti is often described as being a large, bipedal ape-like creature that is covered with brown, gray, or white hair and is said to be muscular, covered with dark grayish or reddish-brown hair, and can weigh between 200 and 400 lbs. (91 to 181 kilograms). It is relatively short compared to North America's Bigfoot, averaging about 6 feet (1.8 meters) in height. Though this is the most common form, reported Yetis have come in a variety of shapes.
Some Soviet Scientists believe The Yeti, or for them the ‘abominable snowmen’ are Neanderthal Survivors
When interviewed about this song in 2011 Kate Bush said:
"Well, the first verse of the song is just quickly going through some of the terms that the Yeti is known by and one of those names is the Kangchenjunga Demon. He’s also known as Wild Man and Abominable Snowman. (...) I don’t refer to the Yeti as a man in the song. But it is meant to be an empathetic view of a creature of great mystery really. And I suppose it’s the idea really that mankind wants to grab hold of something [like the Yeti] and stick it in a cage or a box and make money out of it. And to go back to your question, I think we’re very arrogant in our separation from the animal kingdom and generally as a species we are enormously arrogant and aggressive. Look at the way we treat the planet and animals and it’s pretty terrible isn’t it?"

It really is time Kate was Dame Kate Bush. She is the Godmother of British music and it is time that she was given the same accolade as Paul McCartney, Elton John, Rod Stewart her other male equivalents. Her sheer Britishness alone deserves this recognition.

@@gaiatalkstheearthspeaks I think her fans are the type of people who are very deep and ultra-sensitive. People who don’t just see a tree but see the roots and the hundreds of years of history that tree has. That is how I am and that is how I can relate to Kate so easily.
And she does just what she likes. By which I mean, she makes music for her own ends, not to satisfy a label - or even us! And that's the way to do it.

another example of why she transcends the top 40. her subjects & melodies are so diverse & why her fans are such fanatics. the same way that physics was constantly in the minds of Da Vinci, Tesla & Einstein, so melody & lyrics must swirl nonstop in Kate's marvelous imagination.
Fanatic here!! I totally agree. Kate transcends all comparisons and stereotypes, she is totally unique in everything she does. A true original and a brilliant, classy, and lovely woman.
There are many makers of Kate fan vids, many of which are quite good. She obviously has some very talented fans. I have to say that MrMarrs creates the best of them. I love his Ninth Wave and Aerial suites in particular. Thanks, whoever you are.

Clifford Green i do agree. The double voice chorus with that bloody outstanding keys on the background ( sounds like a church pipe organ ) is simply “pastorale”... and so soul moving !
That guitar line is so hypnotic...
Apart from how this is great to watch on a hot, humid July day, it's great to just sit back and marvel about how Kate keeps re-inventing herself over the years. Amazingly, this is the same person who, as a teenager, gave us Wuthering Heights.
When this song was new, I once heard Cerys Matthews play it on her show, remarking that Kate made it all seem to easy. Yes, that she does.
Kate is totally a one off, like Hendrix, here to give us messages to decode and love to feel....I long for her next album, I really hope it comes soon.

Beautiful video. This is such an amazing track. Together with the line "The world is so loud" in Snowflake, it makes me think this is a peon to the beauty of the wildness of nature and how we are destroying it with noise and pollution. Or even how the true wildness iof our own inner natures is being lost and must be protected. It also reminds me of Kate herself and her need to be away from the press and the demands and brashness of the music industry (which could 'kill' her), so that she can get in touch with her own wild muse,.

This was the first track released from 50 Words for Snow. A friend and I were surprised, though we knew we shouldn't be, that it appeared to be a love song to a yeti.
Then the album came out featuring "Misty" .......
I've never heard Frosty the Snowman in the same way since.

Ed Watkins, director of music at the West London Free School, who sat on the panel, said: “The list we have ended up with has music from the major world traditions, traces the history of popular music and celebrates British and European art music.” As well as works from ‘the Western Classical tradition’ - including Mozart’s Rondo all Turca, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 and Mussorgsky’s Night on a Bare Mountain, the list also features music from major world traditions including Brazilian Samba, Bhangra from Punjab and Argentinian Tango, as well as English folk sea shanties.

There is a deeper layer in the song, I guess, where Kate Bush tries to protect the Wild Man (Yeti?): "They want to hunt you down. You're not an animal."
That name, you must be Dutch....However, also in 'King of the Mountain' we find allusions with Yeti. Not in the lyrics, but in the promotional video in the newspaper clippings we encounter the phrase 'Sightings of Elvis in Yeti colony...'.

Was on 50 words then i switched to the dreaming while watching sandman. Ironic that her most played, single made its, way onto a next series. I thought a song from the dreaming at least wld end up on a sandman episode. Anyways cant force your musical inclination down a fans throath pause let them discover, stuff when the time is rightfor them. Peacemaker has a million great songd i never heard on radio. . Xhat is for u ull feel. Basically saying i dont want ppl to try to shoehorn their singles onto shows the wayxcarcompanies shoehorn thrir cars in the avengers movies..
