- Lewis Hamilton has come into fire after I posted an image of him not holding his own umbrella at the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix. But is really a big deal? Allow me to breakdown the whole situation. So watch the full video for an insight into the Lewis Hamilton umbrella drama at the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix.

Funny though that he's pretty sneaky himself by using that shot of Max to prove a point when in fact Max took the umbrella from his assistant not a second later (there's a video of it). Which Kym knows 100%. So he actually feels the need to make one person look worse to make another look better.....

I can’t believe Lewis would do this, I’m literally shaking. Jokes aside, I’ve learned more about holding umbrellas than I ever needed to. Interesting to see the amount of hate certain athletes draw versus others.

I obviously dont know Lewis, but he seems a pretty decent sort. Like all of us he gets frustrated and has abit of a moan now and then but when he is being interviewed he is unfailingly polite, usually compliments other drivers, never fails to recognise the hard work the team does, even if it hasn't worked, and his radio comments are usually free of profanity. I don't understand the negativity at all.

FFS - my daughter holds the umbrella for her F1 driver too and has done so since she was press officer in British Formula 4 - she sees it as part of her job in the same way as she carries his water bottle and other stuff. There’s just so much hate for Lewis - no idea why
i never understood when people talk about Lewis’ hypocrisy when he’s just being nice , I read a lot of workers experiences with Lewis (not in front of the camera) and everyone said that he’s the nicest person he’s not doing it for the views it may be his real self and just because he’s sometime unbearable but that’s during race weeks just like Max or other drivers they high on adrenaline
I have to say I've read a lot of far less complimentary comments about Lewis from people who have worked and been associated with him which give a picture of someone who is an entitled control freak. And whatever you do use the toilet on his private jet at your peril (before he sold it).

I don’t understand this hate towards Lewis. Thank you for pointing this out Kym. It’s surprising to see adults react the way they do. This is a sport not a war. Even in wars people don’t hate people the way people hate Lewis. I guess that’s what you have to go through when you’re at the top. As always, amazing photos Kym. My favourite was the Lando’s photo when he was alone.
F1 is not a sport, it is entertainment business where rules can be changed on the fly for the sake of excitement… or to manipulate race outcome.

For some reason, Lewis triggers a shocking number of haters. These trolls are active all over social media calling on him to retire, claiming he has no talent, swearing that he is a mediocre driver and that a robot could have won 6 world championships in the Mercedes F1 cars.
No other F1 driver inspires such virulent responses from a certain segment of so called fans. I think I know why.

I'm not denying that it plays a part, but it's not necessarily what you're implying. Did you see the stats recently about 20% of comments on Max on social media being toxic, including telling him to die, and similar about his family. Thousands of them within a single month's worth of comments examined. And no prizes for guessing which driver's fanbase is triggered enough by Max to write those kinds of comments... A certain segment of the two fanbases are just vicious and hateful toward the other.

I have never understood the expectations towards athletes to behave like some enlightened beings. They are human who are on their own path of development, they make stupid things, mistakes, they learn and grow (hopefully). It is called being human, give them a break. Especially these guys who are racing usually from a very early age and lead a very disciplined closed life, they have very little experience in many areas of life where a normal person has, and they run on adrenalin most of the time we see them which is a completely different state of mind as everyday life.
People just want reasons to hate lewis. Cost of being the best.
I never liked him - not when he first entered f1 and still don't. I do not know why, some people I just don't like (but don't we all?).
However, he's still a 7 time world champion and doesn't deserve the hatred he sometimes gets. Same goes for Schumacher, Vettel, Alonso and (currently) Verstappen who all have had their share of hatred towards them - and all other drivers who have been the target of hatred.
We are all human and should respect each other. Even if we don't like somebody.

@@ok-dy2tz I have been thinking about the reason why I never liked Hamilton and I think it's his way of talking and the vocabulary he uses, it doesn't feel sincere to me. I'm Dutch, I'm used to very straightforward and blunt ways of communicating so I naturally have less issues with Verstappen's way of communicating than many others.
I do believe there are people who don't like Hamilton because he's black, those people are ignorant and stupid. However, I think it's too easy to just say it's all because he's black - he is much more than a black racing driver.

No he didn’t. You fell for someone posting a picture from another race where he was holding the umbrella. Go back and see that he’s wearing no hat vs a hat and there other noticeable differences between him and his press officer. Either way this whole umbrella thing is a senseless, useless drama conjured up by simpletons against someone they hate.

Great insider video as always. Really interesting to hear the things that go on around the drivers, team managers and their time at the track.
Now you happen to have a bit of downtime, maybe you could make a video for all us budding photographers about the two Preset packs you have on your site. Namely, the Slipstream PRESET pack, and the Upshift PRESET pack. A bit more detail of the presets inside the packs would be great to know, before we spend our hard-earned Sterling, Dollars (Aussie or US), Euros or Hungarian Forints.

I'm a black African F1 fan. I am not a Mercedes fan. I do strongly believe that the hate Sir LH gets is deep rooted in racism. There is a racism problem in F1, sadly. Thank you for putting this video out and your comments about what we saw on the comment section on IG.

Since his debut , Lewis has been held to a different set of standards to everyone else. Once his 8th title was in touching distance everyone involved in F1 started to think about Michael's legacy and once again played the double standards card to full effect doing whatever was possible to prevent him achieving this goal. His latest penalty attests to this with other drivers getting away with worse. Latent racism and jealousy are to blame , probably driven by a fair dose of penis envy as most of his detractors show the clinically diagnosable traits which , theoretically , place them firmly in this category. Man up and give the man his due , he deserves it .

The umbrella complaints are so obviously just an hypocritical attack on a driver they don’t like. 9 times out of 10 you’ll see all drivers hold it too just not in the shots you got. Also it makes sense for the media officer to keep hold of it as drivers will constantly be stepping in and out to do interviews and even sign/selfies for fans. So why not just the person staying under it most hold it?
Just simple this show and demonstrate the quality of been a real gentlemen and congratulations to Russel and his parents that raised a great child that now is telling us what great parents he has. George do not change for nothing. Congratulations.

Even down in Karting, we had Pit Girls. Same in Motorcycles. It's a part of the show. Other sports don't just use them for rain. Staying cool before you start racing is very important!

Lewis has had hate ever since he's aired his personal views on certain things... I have friends and family that take the piss that I gun for Lewis... I am Jamaican living in Canada and visit Jamaica for one week sometimes two weeks every year.
I have an old 1995 Suzuki Vitara that I keep in good condition to drive whenever I visit.
I drive it to meetings ( I have a trucking business) and to client's parties and to visit friends yet the only people who ever criticize me for having an old ugly vehicle are people who can't afford a car or people who spend all their money on a nice car but have no home of their own.

It was his father who deserves that praise, not Lewis. Lewis was ranting about being cheated by fia. But after his dad spoke to him he accepted the loss. That said, it’s still impressive of Lewis to be able to change his mindset so quickly.

As a White guy from Brisbane I think you and I both know why Lewis is targeted. It’s not deliberate or as blatant as some in the past, lets just say he doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt like some of his contemporaries. I’m sure if you asked ladies that work beside Lewis they would assure you that he is a gentleman. Sir Lewis is an inspiration for me for his behaviour in some very difficult and dark times for him. He should be revered. Did anyone hear Max speak to JP during Quali? Is that gentlemanly? Would Lewis or for that matter Oscar or Sergio speak to their race engineer like that?
It has nothing to do with race, stop pulling that card. Max receives way more hate yet it is never called out. Even in this video Kym felt the need to spread lies about Max (he literally held the umbrella, just was freeing up his hands) in order to make Lewis look better
Max received so much hate for his race radios you clown, and there was nothing wrong with them, but clearly you don’t understand that F1 is a competition and he was going 300kph

You got it right there are a lot of people who hate Lewis for his achievements in the sport and no matter what happens they will never change its why he prefers to reply to these people on the race track.

Americans in NASCAR didn't like a black driver he got hate cause he's black I think it would be the same in F1.
It doesn't just show how many ridiculous sounding haters there are out in the world, it shows how thick they can be. It doesn't require too many brain cells to think it though and realise how inconvenient it would be for both driver and colleague if every time the driver is stopped for an autograph in the paddock they'd have to keep handing the umbrella back and forth. Seriously get a grip !

You don't know why I dislike Lewis so stop assuming things. I used to love him. Until he made a shitty comment about Schumacher after he couldn't defend himself anymore. Idc about the umbrella bs. People who make drama about that are just stupid and are probably just drive to survive fans. But for me Schumacher is a no go. Have a great day (and I won't ever take away Lewis achievements. We all know why there is so much hate for Hamilton. People just find excuses to hide the real reason they dislike him. I remember Vettel saying some crazy things on the radio to charlie in mexico. No one will ever bring that up to hate on vettel. In fact he is everyones favourite. My point is lewis has done less questionable driving than most and has been less rude then most but gets completely the most hate. Interesting.

I have a feeling in each case it was whoever went to get the umbrella in the first place. So where the woman is holding the umbrella, they already had it and said OK lets go to wherever. When the driver is holding the umbrella, they had it and said OK lets go to wherever.
