My daughter's cats were tearing up her Christmas tree three years a go so she called home in a panic. I took one of the farm chargers over and wired it to her tree. Three years later they still don't climb that tree. :)
I guess you know by now but your wood will be slightly conductive once it gets wet. This causes DC resistance and will load your power unit down. You can make small insulators from many items. I like plastic tops from drink bottles Just drill 2 opposing holes through the sides and run the wires through those holes Drill them so that the wire will run off center. Then drive a small nail through the top wo touching the wire. This a free upgrade which will keep the load caused from the resistance of wet wood from harming your power source. Plus, it will be more effective since the potential difference between ground and your live wire will be higher.
Back in the 1960s my father wired up a HO Train set transformer to our birdfeeder. The transformer was from of the kitchen window with a forest view of the feeder . Once a squirrel could be seen on the feeder (and the birds had flown away) he would turn up the transformer knob shocking the squirrel..to our glee.. and probably explains why I turned out like I did .. LOL😂
That was fun. Thx from Canada,, I have a black bear takin down my feeders during the day time,,, gotta come up with a solution, as I have way to many beautiful birds coming in daily
If two conductors are paralleled up the pole, the grounding rod is completely unnecessary. And as you've discovered, a lucky squirrel will occasionally miss the conductors. A standard poll collar will keep them from climbing the pole and is maintenance-free. But, I'm always amazed at how far and high the squirrels are willing to jump from other objects (trees, roofs, and such) to get to the top of feeders. Good luck with your squirrel-proofing. It seems as soon as one comes up with a solution, the squirrels figure it out.
I threaded my feeder pole thru a slinky. Allow the slinky to hang 5ft high and at least 2ft off the ground. 100% squirrel proof if there isn’t a tree or fence near it. They cannot climb up a slinky.
I made a couple of chargers from auto ignition coils. One was a coil on plug coil from a VW. I use a "tilt switch" made from a wire with a fishing weight hanging through a heavy wire loop. It is hooked up so when shaken, the tilt switch makes and breaks switching the primary on an off causing the secondary to fire. I just use a 9 volt battery to drive it since it draws no current if not disturbed. I can just be hung from a fence wire or hung from the bottom of a bird feeder.
Put electricians dielectric grease on any mechanical connections on everything, especially outdoors , like NoKorode, AntiOx, etc. and they'll last a heckovva long time! Worth it to never have to clean & redo connections. I'd have made tighter winds after going up the pole a ways, so you can watch.
Looks like a pile of older sunflower seeds at the base of the feeder. A note to the wise ; regularly clean up that pile of hulls, they will get moldy and poison any bird that eats them.
I had a feeder with a 9v powered shocking circuit on the bottom of the birdfeeder but that gave out over time. I wish i could find another circuit to replace it. The perches were metal and if the squirrel touched two perches they got a shock automatically. It worked great.
Hey I loved the vid but in a couple of weeks I'm gonna be a brand new flintknapper so can post more flint knapping boss and you are my favorite flint napping youtuber
You are having entirely too much fun. Just a wee bit out there. One suggestion, if you put the wires closer together on the pole it will trigger more reliablely.
Too much cost and work. Get a 12V electronic adapter from a second hand store. Get some speaker wire. Join the speaker wire to the adapter. Put 2 pieces of aluminum foil around the post, 1/2" apart. {or steel}. Simple.
I shoot them all the time but I don't kill them, how? I got a 36" small diameter tube that green dry peas fit perfectly so I shot them with that I a lot of fun and they are ok..
At one time I had a bunch of grey squirrels my neighbor would joke, "Just keep fattening them up for me! "👀🤦Any way wouldn't zapping a prego squirrel harm/kill her babies? Or at the very least do brain damage maybe?
At 8:12 "Please, please pop it, pop that bastard" had me dying.
I knew somebody was going to have a video on this! I'm going to build my system tonight LOL
I came for the tutorial
I stayed for the taunting 😂
“Poppity POP”. 😂 😂 😂 😂… you made my day! Great video!

Looks like you scarred them for life
Awesome!!!

Fantastic idea !
Great video and I appreciate the awesome humor. Really needed a good laugh today!

I like the peace sign on the bird feeders 😁 🕊️

Very good idea thanks.
Just installed slinky as you suggest. Does the job, perfect and safe.
Now what about an electrified slinky????

The commentary alone was worth the viewing....hilarious.

☺😁😁this was a "Carl Spackler" "Caddyshack"moment if there ever was one !! 😂😂😂

Get a 2 mile charger with polywire keeps them hopping
You need more wiring candy caning on the post. Have a similar build but with more wiring. Twisted around the post. Plus I have a metal post.
Love it! Great job!
Awesome content! Love it! Pop it!!!
more turns so higher chance of pop?
Love your videos 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Wow this is cool, your awesome dude huge thumbs up.
Any way to make this remote-controlled, and able to shock Starlings? I'm about to lose my mind with those mean bastards!
Get you a BB gun son and go to work on em. sling shot and use beans for ammo
I lost you when you said “I eat the squirrels 🐿”.
They're free!

You need an on and off switch in the house think joy 🤩 buzzer
seems you need to make more coils around the post to get more chances of zapping them
Why not out a large slincky around post, and wire up the slinky
Back to the drawing board
I would have wound more wire on the post at smaller distances. That way it would have a greater chance of getting popped sooner
Thanks, construction is well explained. Any updates?
Now your talking... It's escalated Way beyond slinkys at this point

Aluminum tape please. I had to use it around my windows for squirrels. Al to ground and galvanized wire hot
That was great!
Just plain ol electricity works...don't need the fence guard device. 😅
Damn ! it wasn't on , i wanted to see YOU get Popped , lol
Why not space the feeder wires a little further apart?
Oddly satisfying
do you have a video of the squirrel being electriculted?
If it wouldn't trip my circuit breaker, I would do one with 120 volts. They are destructive rats with tails and I am tired of feeding them
Man I just put some dried corn cob in the tree and the squirrels don’t mess with my feeder. The birds eat, and the squirrels aren’t fried.
Yay ! thank you for thinking of the Squirrels
What a hoot.
Unless the dog sniffs the red connector on the charger. Ha Ha.
I want to see a POP !!!!
Ever seen the movie Caddy Shake..??😆😆
What gauge is the ground wire and what clips do you use I wanna make one .
The ground needs simply to go to the earth (ground). Choose a 12 to 16 would work.
For this size animal, they suggest 17 gauge aluminum wire. It's under $5 for 250 feet. The Patriot PE2 energizer is $35 at Walmart.
Does it work against snake?
A big PVC tube around the pole is the only good and cheap solution. The squirrel must not be able to get to the top and bother the birds.
The only mistake that I saw that you made
Is you didn't use the one that I use for horses and cattle
what is the bleu tack that you used ?
It be great for bear too.

Btw...good stuff !
Looked like he forgot and left something in the oven.
Dude, I'm LMAO...
wait for it 😃🙃
Ya'll a bunch of yuppies let the squirrel eat also!
LMFAO. THANKS!!!!
Too complicated 😔
Where do you live because it's highly illegal here?????
Where do you live? Something like this was on shark tank not long ago.
Wow 😳 poor things
Stodoys has a lot of plans to choose from.
you eat Squiirrels ? , WTF Man !
It's not uncommon to eat squirrels around here (Tennessee). They are good.
You are enjoying this way too much. Get some counseling. Pop a Dee Pop!
Lol
You should be ashamed of yourself
Do you like animal cruelty ?
Lars Holmlund
Of course not !!!
Really?????????????????
We are going to send all our squirrels to your house Lars 😂
