    When I was kid, I spotted in the end credits that it was made in Korea! All my favorite US shows back then were made in Korea! It would be cool to actually include the names of Korean animators in the end credits so people can actually appreciate the animators more. In US and Japan animation industry we have famous animators but we barely know any Korean animators.

    What a fascinating look at something we aren't privy to. I knew this was done in Korea (America has been sending animation work overseas for decades-- cartoon TV series and animated feature films) but it seems like it's not really talked about, or shown ... almost taboo in a way.
    I would have thought that once the system of using plastic celluloid sheets for cartoons became obsolete, and we graduated/evolved to digital animation, the process would have become so much simpler and faster (and cheaper), but obviously we still need to outsource the labor.

    When they actually show the workload of the anonymous painters and artists without mentioning their salaries it's quite revealing. They work long hours, on a mind-numbing amount of frames. I animate too, I have animated thousands of frames, but at least I was working independently for a decent profit. It's hard labor, not physically, but psychologically, doing someone else's art, as opposed to an essential service or creative pursuit that is intrinsically fulfilling

    .the creative work is close to effortless,everybody can think of a funny story for an animation episode. Those koreans do all the hard draft work and you see none of them in the credits.
    You can really see matt groenings mind working in the writers room: "LeTs mAKe a sEriEs aBoUt yElloW pEOple"
    And then all the koreans did the rest. And at Comicon you only see the "Creative minds" of the dudes in the LA studios who just do the fuckin voice over. Next thing you see is how they drivin around in a porsche and overseas in seoul they get a pat on the back.

    • @eduardo_corrochio
      @eduardo_corrochio 5 років тому +18

      Yes, Groening created it. So what. He should get some glory and credit; it was his baby. He started out with a single panel comic in The Village Voice and eventually was fortunate enough to find success in TV. The Simpsons was his baby, his idea, and his humor.
      Also, you're dead wrong: not everyone can think of a funny story for an animation episode. Holy crap. The creative work is "close to effortless"?? What a stupid remark. Is _everyone_ exceptionally witty and talented with words and comedy? No way. That's a ridiculous thing to say and believe. Also, writing for TV is not all fun and frolic. You wouldn't be so resentful if you had to actually try to do it yourself. It's not easy peasy.
      If you knew your onions you would know that the Korean unit gets credit at the end of every episode-- as they do for any other American cartoon TV show or film they work on. Yes, it's brief and it's not in the opening sequence, but it's there nonetheless. This is no coverup, no slave labor or something nefarious. I suspect the folks who do the work get a decent wage. If they were mistreated it would be exposed.
      And finally, as far as your ignorant remark about making "a cartoon about yellow people": most of the characters were originally made yellow because the bulk of the main characters had no hairline, and an animator in 1987 on The Tracey Ullman Show suggested a yellow shade because it was similar to both hair and skin. Creator Matt Groening liked the idea, since bright yellow would also grab the attention of channel surfers.
