Mid sixties basic kits were relatively cheap. Aurora kits in Canada were $1.29 / $ 1.99 / $ 2.49 for the most part. They had a few that were more expensive. AMT cars models and Star Trek were $ 3.20 CAD. Most of the other US and British manufactures made most of their kits in the low range. However there were larger kits up to about $ 10. Then Tamiya came in. First Tamiya kit I got was in 66/67 and it cost $ 8.00 CAD. It was the 1/35 Tiger I single motor kit. Took 8 hours of part time work to buy it. Eventually bought a lot of Japanese kits because of Tamiya. The only domestic kits I would buy were the TV show and monster kits from Aurora and AMT. Everything else I bought was Japanese.
I use Mod Podge to make small windows, works well. Great for glueing on canopies and car windshields too. 😎👍 That "Faux Documentary", like the Babylon Bee, it's pretty spot on! Satire becomes reality. 😮
I've used white glue, mod podge and crystal clear for windows. Depending on the usage it's easier just to cut clear styrene sheets into the shapes needed and build up as required.
Warm air makes casting air bubbles expand and pop when they reach the surface. You could use a hair dryer set to heat, but low fan speed to keep from blowing the resin everywhere. A vacuum chamber also works great if you do this as a business. Put the model in the chamber and add a low vacuum and in a few minutes the bubbles will rise to the surface and pop. Generally, trying to dig out a bubble with a needle is not so easy, and can actually make a lot of smaller bubbles.
Thats a really good observation you made: when you see the light at the end of the tunnel, thats not the time to speed up but actually when you ought to slow down" I wonder how many builds see their quality drop off in the home stretch?
You got the multi tasks going on! Loved the old catalog’s . Great Parody Max , Arlene was laughing too, she says I can see you guys as kids doing just that🤣👍
Ha, place a marshmallow in front of junior me, I could stare at that thing all day while scanning the room for matches. A Drake’s Devil Dog on the other hand…munch…I’m sorry, what were you saying? 😂. Pretty cool test with the “glass”. The prison experiment. During SERE training at Fairchild AFB in January many moons ago, I witnessed fellow “captives” break quickly and were willing to sign the made up war crimes paper for warmer shelter or a touch more food…WHISKEY DELTA’s (thankfully only a few). One evening on a wood chopping detail just outside the fence next to the instructor cadre’s building, I was able to sneak over and No. 1 their doorknob…steaming in the freezing temps…. A short time later watch one of the cadre walk to and open the door then looking at and wiping that hand on his pants. Chalk up a minor victory.
Thanks Max for Sharing. When you mentioned in your parody. 70s and Japanese were taking over, made me think of movie "Gung Ho" starring Micheal Keaton.
WHO AS A KID DIDN'T DROLLED OVER A MODEL CATALOG AND WISHED HE COULD BUY EVERY KITS LISTED? MY LOCAL HOBBY SHOP OWNER DIDN'T CARRY ANY KITS FROM JAPAN AS HE WAS A GUEST THERE IN WW2. GOD BLESS EVERYONE
Can't say I blame him. Fellow down the way was a guest as well via Hong Kong. He wouldn't buy or use anything from Japan. Rice was a definite no-go menu item.
I love your comments about Honey the kitten! Our kitty (Magick) knocked the BE-12 I was working on,and she knocked it off my work table. It crashed like a Cirrus, but had no chute to stop itself. I'll lock up my work room next time.. Fly Safe,Captain! L L A P😀🖖✈️🎸

I even did a side by side test of Mod Podge and Revell window glue. Mod Podge won.
