- The Almbach gorge (Almbachklamm) Berchtesgaden National Park Bavaria Germany. Join me as we hike the Almbach gorge (Almbachklamm) up to the Sulzer waterfall and the historic Theresienklause dam in the Berchtesgaden National Park, Bavaria, Germany. This gorge-ous hike takes in the sights of the many waterfalls as we make our way up to the Theresienklause which was used to transport wood through the gorge in the past. At Theresienklause I will tell you about its history and how it was used to transport wood through the Almbach gorge.

Paul, this is absolutely beautiful. I love seeing National Parks in other countries, and this one is stunning! I love the trail system along the gorge to see the waterfalls. The water is so clear and has an almost blue translucent look to it! Absolutely amazing! I loved hearing about the dam and the mill. Thank you so much for sharing! 😊

Hi Anita, I'm so glad you enjoyed this hike thro the Almbachklamm Gorge. It did take a bit of time to get going but once it did it was fabulous. The workings of the dam must have been a sight to behold and I too can't imagine the logs rolling down the gorge. The weather was very hot on this day and the gorge was a perfect spot to try and cool off. There will be more videos coming from this National Park in Germany in the coming weeks. The Almbach gorge walk is beautiful and that water looked inviting. So clear.. The sounds relaxing yet exciting. Well maintained so 5 Euro well spent. Too bad about the audio failure but things have a way of working out. Some of the trails had a steep drop and have to wonder if in the US there would be a handrail given all the litigation here. Hi Mike, I'm glad you enjoyed this walk thro the Almbach gorge. It sure was worth the 5 euros . I didn't even notice the steep drops while walking it but probably because I'm used to far worse. There were plenty of people around but a lot of peaceful moments as it was 2 miles from the start to the dam. Thank you very much for taking time to watch. Hi Paul, this was an epic walk a bit tricky here and there. But the views of the gorge and lovely clear waters was beautiful. The dark tunnel was a little scary. When you got to the dam and the waterfall it was amazing , take care x Julie and Tony x

I guess I've been on a lot worse and higher up. Hi Paul! This was a really nice hike through the gorge and the trail is great built with lots of bridges. I can imagine what it looks like when the stream is full of water. Hi Sretana and Zac, yeah it was a hot spell so the gorge was perhaps a lot drier than normal. I would have loved to have explored the near by villages too but I was running short on time. Maybe one day I will visit the area again. Thank you very much for taking time to watch 👍Paul

Stunning place Paul. I think my parents took me there when I was little and I was terrified LOL. I'd love to go back now. It looks amazing. They did an amazing job with the stairs and the path leading through. It's an amazing gorge, such beautiful waterfalls.

Hi Paul Happy New Year This looked well, gorgeous haha Brilliant that you were able to get out into the countryside to explore this phenomenal place. On such a hot day I'd imagine that getting into some of the shady places was welcome. Wonderful to see a sunny video after the weather we've had of late though I'm still hopeful of some cold crisp snowy days in The Lakes. Super to follow the pathway twisting and turning ... a touch narrow in parts eeek... but lots if interest with bridges, caves and wow those waterfalls are amazing. Did you breath in all those ions ? Look it up if you didn't know about that lol 😃 Those German names are just something else ... you do well at the pronunciation.. I just would have no idea lol Brilliant video Paul .. Hi Christine, well I was waiting for the Christmas nonsense to be out the way before releasing what I think is a raft of good stuff. This was a few miles out from Berchtesgaden and out in the countryside. I'd have loved more time there but alas it was at a premium. Maybe I will return one day. I didn't really notice the narrow paths while walking them or at least not enough to bother me. I've been on far worse as you can imagine. Wow what a spectacular area, stunning bus drop off point. 33C it’s was a really hot year wasn’t it? €5 is a reasonable price for a trail of this magnitude. Id be soaking up that tree cover. Family enjoying the falls. What an incredible gorge, we plan on returning to this area so this is going to the top of our list. I mean €5? Such incredibly well maintained walkways and paths, for double that price you wouldn’t get anything in the UK. Plus the whole gorge gave you cover from the oppressive sunshine. A worldclass gorge Paul and a house that shall not be named! Having seen the spelling I cannot blame you. Spellbinding from start to finish ❤
Hi Nick n Jill, I should have mentioned a free bus drop off too with the guest card. It was very hot all the time I was Germany and I was lathered after this walk. I was happy to have a shower and a few beers back at the hotel later on. The entry price was more than reasonable. The walkways and paths were very sturdy and well maintained. I don't think you'd get a gorge like this in the UK for them to be able to extort money out of you for. I thought I'd not embarrass myself trying to pronounce the house name or the dam but I did think I'd add some narration as I found the story of the dam interesting. When you see my videos in the coming weeks you shall definitely be adding this area to the very top of your list of places to visit. I will be very surprised if not anyway or my videos will not have done them justice. Thank you very much for taking time to watch. Happy New Year 👍🙂Paul

just took off a million layers after a long cold walk with the dogs and seeing this beautiful warm weather made me so happy. i would love to take this actual walk right now. you have no respect for the little waterfall. lol. the water is so clear. reminds me a bit of some areas in colorado. they've done a great job with the pathways/stairs/railings. i love this place! waterfalls everywhere. i could spend all day here. do the grating style bridges bother you? some people hate walking over those kind where you can see through. if there weren't so many visitors, the damn house might be perfect for a "not too friendly" hermit. 🤭 truly this place is spectacular. happy 2024 paul! 🛴❤
Hi Anne, well this was from the end of August last year on a very hot day. What little waterfall 😂 there were so many 🙂The walkways were very well constructed and the entrance fee worth it. I had been up to Hitler's Eagles Nest high up in the Alps that morning (next video) so time here was at a premium. I'd have loved to have spent a wee while longer as there are some beautiful mountain villages close by. As for walking over the grating style bridges it was no problem. They didn't bother me in the slightest nor did the narrow paths. I took it all in my stride as I've been on far worse paths and higher up on grated bridges in my time. Looks an amazing place, you certainly got your 5 euros worth. I like a good waterfall and the colour of the water was amazing. I'd love to do some photography there but I doubt they'd let you in with a tripod as there didn't seem a lot of space on the pathways. Great video Paul.
Hi Andy, it was a fabulous few hours out and sure worth the entrance fee. They wouldn't stop you taking a tripod in but getting a decent photo could prove difficult unless you went very early as there were quite a few people plus not much room on the pathways as you say. Gorge-ous, I see what you did there Paul! Ah man I'd love some of that blue sky and heat right now. Not to mention that scenery! Best part for me is the colour of the water in the pools. Great narration again! When I saw how organised the walk was I was worried it might not be hermit-friendly but it was pretty quiet. Impressive dam and mill! They were built to last!

I had to throw some narration as people seem to like it and the history of the place was interesting. The walk was fairly busy but it had a lot of peaceful moments too. It was 2 miles from the start to the dam so that helped. I'd love to have explored the area more but ran out of time. Maybe one day I will go back. 👍Paul

Gee Paul, and I thought Bavaria was all about its cream...this was an absolutely amazing trek even for a hermit....that water never disappoints and honestly inspires me to create something in this color...such an amazing color to find in water falls...just stunning views all around and the history is amazing...thanks for all you put into each video...I do appreciate the bits of humor...now that Christmas is over I feel I haven't much to tease you about, although today may be the last day I can call you Mr Grinch being Jan 6th the end of the Christmas holiday! Wishing you a happy, healthy and prosperous...yes have to keep you in some spare change so you can take us to these awesome places! Happy New Year my friend! Ah Donna, this is just an entree of what's to come from Bavaria, would you believe. This one was a little busy in parts but also peaceful enough too. The waterfalls were super, especially the big one Sulzer. I figured I had to do some narration when I read about the history of the dam. And you might be now aware, I do like a bit of banter. I'm quite socialable for a hermit 😂Thank you very much for taking time to watch. I'm not sure what trips I am doing this year yet but I will certainly be hoping to go to some awesome places.
