  • It’s often said that a picture is worth a thousand words. Words and pictures together can tell the truth powerfully or proclaim error strongly. This session considers how we can combine words and pictures to explain truth and edify believers.

"I want you to invent a place that can communicate God without words" says Mr. Challies. There's no need to invent such a place: It already exists. Step inside any Eastern Orthodox Church and you will be amazed by the beauty you see: The iconography on the walls communicating the story of salvation, the sweet smell of incense wafting upwards like the prayers of the saints, the taste of the bread and wine communicating Christ's body and blood to the faithful, the feel of the warmth of the candles reminding us of the presence of the saints in heaven, and yes, the beautiful words of the divine liturgy. As the emissaries sent from prince Vladimir to Hagia Sophia over a thousand years ago said, "We knew not whether we were in heaven or on earth". That is the experience of every Orthodox believer every Sunday.

    Behold the visual theology
    In the Holy Scriptures
" But he (Philip) full of the Holy Spirit gazed into heaven and saw ' the glory of God, and Jesus STANDING at the right hand of God...."
    Acts 7: 55-56
" Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us."
    Romans 8:34
"..... which he worked in Christ Jesus when He raised Him from the dead and SEATED Him at His right hand in the heavenly places. .."
    Ephesians 1:20
" If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is SITTING at the right hand of God..."
    Colossians 3:1
" Who being the brightness of his glory.... when he had by Himself purged our sins, SAT down at the right hand of the Majesty on HIgh.."
    Hebrews 1: 3
    Hebrews 8:1, Hebrews 10:12. ..
On the cross he said it is finished
And now he is seated having
    Completed the work of our
    Salvation.
