When do you plant the seeds? Start indoors in winter? Direct sow after frost?

I have not personally started to grow from the seeds I have collected just yet. But I know the plant has self seeded itself and started to grow a bunch of new plants underneath the main plant. I had like 5 new ones pop up this spring.
