      Unfortunately, if I did that, all the stray dogs that get dumped out here around where I live would eat them all. However, this video is quite old, and we have since built a whole new area for them closer to the house & they are spoiled almost daily with fruits, veggies, & meal worms. I also don't have near as many as I used to have.

    I have lots of questions and I hope you respond. Is this plant? Does this plant do well in Texas? Can you grow it in the pot because I know trumpet vines and offsets trumpet vines can be very you know it’ll take over.

    • @ArcoIrisRanch
      @ArcoIrisRanch 5 днів тому

      Hello, so I got this plant at a local garden center and they had it labeled as Datura Devils Trumpet. I originally had two of them that I planted in pots. That fall, I decided I wanted to plant them in the raised bed. So I did that and waited till Spring. They came back that first year and got huge! They were big and beautiful all year. Then last fall, I cut them back like I had done when moving from pot to raised bed, and waited for spring. That brings us to this spring & they sadly never popped back up. So I am assuming they died because of the cold snap during winter but I am not 100% sure. If I was to get this plant again, I would try to dig it up and bring it inside the shop or a garage or green house if I had one. I hope this helps!

    Hello !! I’m a Texas gardener too … couple hours south of DFW . Most all of my gardening has been pretty sad these last few years due to the 100 plus temps … I’m trying to find some tried n true very hardy plants that will thrive n I’ve found 2 !!! Turks caps … the hummingbirds love them . And Purple Heart . Both are super easy to propagate too

    • @donnam4260

      I could mail you a couple starts ?? The Turks caps clippings will easily grow big roots if you place in a water glass .., N the Purple Hearts ??? Just place them in the ground n keep it moist n they grow roots all by themselves .

      I'm in DFW... we dug up a bunch of purple heart 2 years ago... pulled up more "roots" than leaves and didn't see them for years.. well they are back. And to think it started when I had my moms purple heart in a pot to "baby sit" while her house got built.. and my husband whacked em by mistake with the weed eater.. lol. talk about hearty and volunteers!

      The corn planted in this video was not successful. We went through a severe drought and I did not water them enough which caused them all to die after popping up. I grew a lot of corn this year though! It all ended up going to the chickens but it did grow. I have not done the three sisters method yet but would like to try it.

      I didn't water it enough and it died 😭 Two weeks ago I picked up a new one but wayyyy smaller. It was at a yard sale for $8. Basically looked like a tall stick with a few leaves. It's currently still in a nursery pot maybe a one gallon. I am making sure to keep it watered. It has grown a bunch of new leaves! So 🤞🏻 I can keep it alive. Apparently you can grow them in really big pots 🤷🏼‍♀️ We may still plant it in the ground I haven't decided yet.

    This is my second year growing dahlias in a little bit cooler climate in northern VA. Almost all mine came back after the winter. Just judging by how yours looked last year, I think you've got a water/fungus (the stems coming up and then dying sounds like fungus) issue, combined with some snails/slugs. I suggest not watering at all until you see significant growth above the soil line, and then making sure you're only watering about an inch per week until they're blooming. Once they're blooming and if it's really hot, water a little more. Check to see how much rain they're getting so you can adjust your water based on that. Also, put down slug bait and spray with a systemic insecticide. Fertilize once a month with bulb fertilizer. Another thing to think about is making sure not to use top soil or compost with herbicide in it. Some of the fungal issues can be with the tubers themselves, so if you buy them from Lowes or Home Depot (rather than ordering from a nursery), you can try spraying them with fungicide.
