- 3 Very CUTE bobcat KITTENS are given a second chance at life after being adopted by a domestic cat !!
With a gun in one hand and a sack of bobcat kittens in the other, an Alabama hunter proudly plopped the newborns down on the counter and asked the veterinary assistant to raise them up for him so he could give them to his kids as pets.
The vet tech was stunned, but quickly recomposed herself to tell the hunter she would do it for him so as to rescue the babies from such an awful fate. She immediately began scouring the Internet for an expert in rehab and release.

She treated them as if they were her own. The last we heard a few months ago she was happy and doing very well in her forever home. She is loved and well cared for.
Those kittens will grow up tough, wrestling with bobcat kittens.

@@3nderoX true, but the bobcats are bigger. My boy housecat is crazy strong though at 17-18lbs.. shoulders and thighs look like he’s a body builder and his strength is crazy. If he were 30 or 35lbs he would absolutely terrify me when he angy

The two domestic kittens were also adopted by Bobbi at the shelter where she was, she was so good to her adopted domestic kittens the shelter owners knew that she would be a great fit for us too. The domestic kittens were adopted by BCR volunteers and Bobbi now lives with a family in the Tampa area :)

I mean, I'm taller than my mom, and I listen to her.
My 6-pound female shorthair is totally the boss of her brothers (9 pound Main Coon, 14 pound Shorthair, 16 pound Siamese). No one messes with her.

I adopted four baby rabbits since I saw that the mother was dead from a storm. One was a white rabbit that was blind and lives with me. the other three come and visit once in a while to eat the clovers.

Brittany Avis That is so nice!! When I was little my sister found a frozen crow on the streets. We took it in and let it go during the spring. (I admit I locked the bathroom door and let it fly around but I was like four can ya blame me?)
I love how some cats will find any vaguely kitten-shapped creature and be like "Yep, you're mine now."
Sometimes it doesn't have to be "vaguely cat shaped." They will often adopt other mammals (such as dogs) and there is at least one instance of a cat adopting and caring for some newly hatched ducklings.
The regular kittens are like "What in gods name is going on here?"
I would be afraid that the bobcats would hurt the mom cat's real kittens.

Cat logic, Mom cats are surprisingly social and they do kitten sit for other members of their colony. This mama cat was probs just thinking "wait who's litter am i watching? oh well, guess i'm keeping them for now"

It's amazing how similar the bobcat kittens look to regular kittens but how more aggressive and louder they are

Thats because housecats are closely related to Lynx (bobcats are a type of lynx). Domesticated cats come from wildcats. Domesticated cats are in the same subfamily as Lynx. You will see that all kittens in that subfamily look quite similar to each other and are hard to tell apart.
bobcat kittens' paws are slightly bigger than regular kittens'
one special marks is the "slit eyes" belong to domestic cat...
It's the scream you listen for if its sounds like a strong whistle it's not a kitten it's a bobcat.

It's amazing how quickly she starts cleaning them. The motherly instinct!

Bobcats are far bigger than domestic housecats and can be dangerous. Also, since they aren't domesticated, being acclimated to people just means they wouldn't have any problems attacking people instead of being afraid of them and avoiding them, as most wild animals are. People still get attacked by domesticated dogs, even though they've been tamed for thousands of years. As the saying goes, "You can take the animal out of the wild, but you can't take the wild out of the animal." Their instincts and behaviors are still present, even if they don't have a need to use them because we provide their food and care for them.

When you put a bobcat kitten next to a domestic kitten you can really see the differences between the two. The bobcat's seem to be only a few days to a week old here, and the domestic kittens seem to be several weeks old, and yet they are all the same size. The bobcat's ears are also a different shape, and they have much thicker fur as well.

I had a cat that lived for 19 years, she was mostly Maine Coon, had the M on her forehead, same markings and everything, but she was tiny... Weighed 8 pounds soaking wet on a fat day! Lol and she was a spoiled indoor cat that ate all the time, too... I just don't understand it! Lol

Mommy housecats sure have strong maternal instincts! They'll accept almost any animal as their baby- even prey animals!

@MsTicklemesilly Yes, Bobbi the domestic cat had been a surrogate mom to domestic kittens so we knew she was going to be a good candidate and it turned out she was AWESOME, perfect surrogate mom for the bobcat kittens :)
I love cats of all shapes and sizes, so I'm really glad that organizations like this exist to help the unfortunate innocent cats, that would otherwise not be likely to survive.

I was about to say. Heartwarming, and I'm sure she'll clean them and love them, but the nursing is not going to last long.

@TheBinaryHacker No she will produce milk for the bobcat kittens fine :) We also feed the kittens to supplement what they were getting from their domestic mom.

Yes, I'm unsure of what Bobbi's diet consisted of but we made sure she had the best nutrition to cope with the demands of "motherhood" :)

One of the most heart breaking words are "I hate cats" It is more like, the cats dont like you! Even the bible says, God can tell a man by the way he treats his animals. People often like dogs because no matter how mean you are to dog they will still serve their master. A cat has a heart and it must be won! Be mean to a cat, they will not have you. blessings!!
You can tell how wild these beautiful bobcat cubs are, very feisty, compared to the domestic kittens. Great video and awesome concept of saving them with a surrogate kitty momma.

I hope the vet tech got the hunter's info, as that should have been followed up on by the proper authorities. Someone THAT irresponsible shouldn't be permitted to go out and shoot animals. What if he shoots the parent with the idea of taking more babies to raise as pets, in the future?

I have a feeling the hunter is gonna kill more mama bobcats to take their young, but next time, he won't take them to the vet since he now knows that they'll get taken from him.

@OperationAnime262 At such a young age it is possible for the domestic cat to nurse the bobcat kittens, a cat is a cat is a cat, we monitor them closely and we know when it is time to separate them :)

Awesome, just plain awesome. I hope that Bobbie was given a "Mother of the Year" medal & a safe, happy home for herself & her kittens for the selfless act she did to save the bobcat kittens. Wildlife is in a state where we need to help it & start conserving their natural habitats instead of building McMansions in wild, forested lots. Thanks BCR for all that you do.
I have pixie bob kittens my cat had 5, 2 girls 3 boys/ last one born was a mirical she was born 30 hours after the 4 kitten and we had to do cat CPR for 2 hours and she is still alive today!

Female cats who have just given birth will almost accept any other kittens, had a cat once who gave birth to 5 kittens, over the next few day, there were 18, she had been over to the neighbours, whos cats had also given birth, within the same week, and brought home their kittens, thinking it was her own who had gotten lost.

Bet You anything he found them when he was retrieving their mothers shot body. She was probably acting aggressively to protect her young and he mistook it for an attack. Seriously though, why would he want bobcat pets for his kids. He had to know the vet wouldn't go along with it...
