At the 32:22 minute mark is the music from a band named Vaga Drokadroka Ni Saqani (Green Parrot of Saqani) and the lead singer is Pela's uncle the high chief of Saqani who received our Sevusevu and was telling the story about the house. #hiddengem
Wowser a bonus !I was going to leave a comment about the fantastic editing and putting in that song from Vaga Drokadroka ni Saqani (an old skool fav sigidrigi group of mine)...then to later read in the comments that the Chief, Pela's uncle was the lead singer of the group. Just beautiful and what a awesome vlog. Thank you and vinaka vakalevu for the upload. This really made my day...Loloma tu yani, from a home sick Fijian in Colorado USA.
Just shared this with all of my family. My dads generation left Fiji and me and my cousins are now living in New Zealand, Australia, the States, England. This is so relatable. Vinaka vaka levu 🙏🏽
Bula Vinaka ❤my Fijian sister and brother. I was so moved watching this vlog. I will be in Fiji in March 2025 and I have a feeling I will stay there forever. Greetings from England
Isa thank you for this. Was very touching to hear the speeches and to learn that their mum had passed on. The prayer made me tear up, so simple yet so deep. He prayed for blessings, prayed for good health and prayed for their good sails. The simple things that make our lives worthwhile. Isa. So glad I watched this.
It's so touching and heartwarming to watch this video. Reminds me so much of Samoa and the way they joke and talk about their lives. Yeah, this is our lives, our relationships with our familes are so important to us, need more videos like this. God Bless
This is wholesome 😢 Honestly it’s a different feeling visiting our “koro ni vasu” without our Mother’s presence especially meeting our Momo you’ll know that we’re not alone in this world ❤this video is just heartwarming 🤍
Greetings from Papua New Guinea. I am a great fan of Waka Family I enjoy the fun and laughter and the simplicity of Melanesian lifestyle. The English subtitles on the Rugby story made my arvo.. keep the content coming..#Wakafan
I loved what you said at the end about "Susu Madrai" which most of the kids are now days. There are more people living away from their villages now because of being successful people with their children being brought up in towns and cities. I was fortunate that we use to go for holidays at my grandparents farm in Lomaivuna. Thats how I knew about farming and we had the best time there because we had cousins and friends. I tip my hat to you for taking your family back to the village. Most of us aren't as courageous as you guys. Thanks for the video...brought back memories.
Very heartwarming and touching. Those are those people that your mom loved them dearly too. For them your return is just like your mother retuning too. Got me teared up. 🥲 Another great Vlog Waka!!
Absolutely! That's the magic of storytelling - it has the power to transport us back to our roots. We're so glad to hear that our video resonated with you and brought a touch of home.

Going back to my koro ni vasu has been on my heart lately. 😢 This vlog has truly inspired me to do just that soonest! Vinaka Waka family, Pela and family for this inspiring vlog to our young generation. ❤❤
Thank you so much for your kind words! We're thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the vlog. Your support means a lot to us. If there's anything in particular you'd like to see more of in future vlogs, feel free to let us know. Stay tuned for more adventures with the Waka family!
Hilarious, heartwarming and beautifully captured. Moving ending there felt every word and rightfully mentioned, no shame in acknowledging who we are and the ability to reconnect with our roots.
Wow! This is so heart warming. We're fresh back from Fiji and were able to visit my village in Ra after 7 years. I was also able to introduce my husband (who isn't Fijian). It was amazing to witness a warm welcome and gratitude for our visit. To reconnect and witness how strong the family ties are, and reassured that this is our home and we are to never forget that- is something we don't see or experience living abroad. This hit close to home. Getting back to our roots definitely shifts or realigns something within. Highly recommend fam living abroad to take the time to connect with our roots. Thank you for sharing!
Hey thank you so much for sharing your heartwarming experience! It sounds like your trip back to Ra was truly special, and introducing your husband to your roots must've been such a beautiful moment. It's amazing how strong those family ties can be, right? That feeling of belonging is something truly unique. So glad our vlog resonated with you. Here's to staying connected with our roots! 🏠
Thank you for taking us into this village in Saqani. My dad was posted to teach in Natadra when that school started. Vanua toto'a dina. Vanua va'aturaga, da matalau ni mauco'ona tu a maroroi ni 'oda i tovo a i tau'ei. Mo nu 'alougata ti'o a we'ada.
You're most welcome! It's wonderful to hear about your dad's connection to Natadra. It's amazing how places hold such special memories for people. We're glad we could bring you back to those times through our vlog.
Great contents man.. its a good reminder of how important it is to value our roots especially our maternal links which is usually ignored. We fail to realize that without it, we would not even be in existence today. I'm sure Pela's mom would be all smiling seeing them fulfilling one of her last wishes. You guys just inspired so many fijians today. Great job Waka❤👏👏👏
Isa loved this vlog very much, thank you for sharing. Very nostalgic yet informative vlog about our customs and traditions. Some protocols and traditions we witnessed growing up yet i took for granted. But now being the age where we're the adults having to perform these very protocols it hits different. Seeing Pela get nervous about his speech reminds me of cousins or uncles getting prepped to present or represent on behalf of the incoming guest. As much as i say im not traditional there are some aspects of my culture that is just incredibly sacred and beautiful and makes me feel at home. I lost it when the uncle started praying and blessing the guests😢 that was so heartwarming. Made me miss my Koro ni vasu and my family there. Continue the excellent work Waka fam and team!

This is truly beautiful! Pela's uncle, the chief, is indeed a cool dude. An impressive village. I'm astonished that in 1956 they imported timber for all those houses and other buildings. Mustve been quite a progressive village (given it's remoteness). And also astonishing that the houses have survived all these years. Thank you so much for sharing the sevusevu. Jon, I hope you were richly blessed for your kindness and generosity. Loving the drone views.❤
Thank you for sharing this beautiful heart touching story....going back to your mum's village is the best plan that will keep you connected with your family ❤️🙏
Good to see the fijian tradition still very much intact...isa and the chat baleta na matai ni valekau in 1957... back to the maternal roots, 😔 Koronivasu… Awesome to hear stories from the Colonial era, and the talanoa session about rugby match 😂. BACK TO THE ROOTS! Keep it coming Waka Family 🙏
